USC Quote Of The Day

KIFFIN.ASU“To see that chess match (between Lane Kiffin and Clancy Pengergast), see it played out, I wish sometimes I could just have a box of popcorn to watch it.”

— USC coach Clay Helton

That will be the first game matchup when USC plays Alabama. A box of popcorn was even more appropriate to watch the five games Kiffin and Pendergast coached together in 2013. Remember their final game together, against Arizona State, the Sun Devils scored 62 points.

  1. I remember that the coordinator was an informal title and Kidding pretty much ran the whole show.
    Maybe Clancy will remember too.

  2. Kiffin’s house of cards collapsed that day, though it was ready to blow down by the Sun Bowl. I don’t think he gets the credit for keeping the program as competitive as it was during the sanctions. He had to pander to the vets to keep them which the new guys resented. When there were more new guys than older ones the system broke down on Kiffin. One wonders if the drama developing at Alabama has a Kiffin influence? Expect Saban tighten things up.

    • Good insight!

You’re right about his ability to hold things together but you’re also right about the Sun Bowl and what went down in that locker room.

I’ll give Kiffin this he never complained and unlike that clown Sarkisian, he (Kiffin) didn’t piss his chance away and then sue the school after he (Sarkisian) was justifiably fired.

This is going to be an interesting sidebars that evening between Kiffin’s offensive schemes and Prendergast’s counters.

  3. Lane Kiffen has been spoiled with 4 and 5 star players most of his coaching career, so let’s not be so quick to crown him anything, because if you plug In most offensive coordinator ‘s behind Alabama ‘s offense, you’ll probably get productive, results .

  4. Kiffin will call for the bubble screen left on the first, second, and third down play. Pendergast wont’ have a problem.
