USC v. UCLA

USC and UCLA have one thing in common: Offensive coordinators who never called plays before. Who do you trust more? Tee Martin (USC) or Kennedy Polamalu (UCLA)? Each one dealt with the sometimes frustrating style of Lane Kiffin. Polamalu did not call plays as USC offensive coordinator (2010-12) and got into an altercation with Kiffin in El Paso and was fired about five weeks later. As for Martin, Kiffin repeatedly said the former Tennessee QB would signal in the plays for the 2013 season. But when the season started, freshman QB Max Browne signalled in the plays.

  1. I believe Kennedy Polamalu will coordinate the offense, but I don’t believe for a New York minute that Tee Martin will be running the show, are you kidding me? USC has been playing games with coaches titles since Norm Chow, left…lol

    • Spot on Fred, Helton’s baby brother has the keys to the O.. .

    • Fred, you are the ultimate trust but verify guy. I take Helton at this word and believe Tee will have more say than you do. As the season unfolds we will see. I really don’t care who calls plays. If they work then I will be happy.

  2. Perhaps SoCal can find an experienced and offensive coordinator to call plays.
I understand Monte Kiffin is available for just under $ 2 million per season.

    • And maybe you could apply for a job writing jokes for Henny Youngman.

        • yeah, Jezro, be a coward like Alvaweirdo, shut your ears to all the meanies who don’t agree with your comments!!

          HAWR-HAWR!!!!

          • Chuck,
I can’t read your reply because I’ve blocked you.

Just kidding, I know you need the attention.
I’ve only blocked one user, not because I fear what he has to say. Quite the opposite. I did it because he has absolutely no creativity and is simply annoying.

          • good to hear it. wolfman needs us: insiders tell me he only needs about 15 more years on the blog to be nominated for the Southern Cal Journalism HOF. i’m here until he’s inducted, or until i reach 1 million comments, whichever comes first.

          • Surely the Blogger will receive a promotion to the LAT in the next 15 years? I really can’t see his talents wasted at the DN for that long.

            #UnleashTheWolfman

          • there is certainly a precedent of great journalists migrating to the World Champeen LAT: TJ, Mud, Durslag, John Hall….i don’t see why the wolfman would not be welcome with open arms.

        • Jethro,
Al only hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest. You can block and join the warm tub party with Al & Helen and 55 and whisper sweet SoCal compliments to each other while you play hide the soap.
          That’s what’s sweet to Al.

  3. Off topic:
For those who say USC “lost” out on Thomas Graham and Bubba Bolden, Gerard Martinez sets the record straight about their recruiting. Just listened to the first 25-30 minutes of the Peristyle Podcast (I can’t listen to the whole thing) and GM says USC (Ronnie Bradford) “will not baby anyone and kiss anyone’s a**”, Pendergast and Bradford are NFL guys who won’t stand for any BS”. Very interesting comments. I strongly recommend that you listen to the first 25-30 minutes and you will have a much better take on USC’S direction in recruiting.

    • A number of people on this blog have complained about the lack of discipline & focus, direction & attention to detail over the past few years–and IMO I they think those people are right. From everything I read & hear, this summer has been noticeably different than recent summers and it stems from the coaching staff. The recent benching of Langley suggests a very low tolerance for stepping out of line. If the coaches are preaching dedication & hard work and accountability I am all in. And just maybe that philosophy will push some recruits away–so be it.

      • The horsing around began under PC regardless of Kiffion being the ‘canard’. Matters not who ir when but yes this is the style great teams exhibit – it is what John McKy did – he was always on the defense “…you don’t get that flag you make the other guy earn the flag!”

Helton ‘looks’ like the real deal and I also sense that Sabin knows he’s in for a dawg fight!.

    • Sam Bam: are you asserting you would not be trumpeting Bubba’s signing? or are you simply showing off your advanced ‘scuse making skillz for the homies??? sounds like you are dismissing anyone who don’t sign with Southen Cal a big immature baby!!

i don’t believe for ONE SECOND you wouldn’t take Bubba, or Mique, for the that matter in a flash if they agreed to sign.

      #Don’tEvenGoThere

      • If Bubba were a Trojan on signing day that would be good for USC, but he wants to be called by coaches every day and wants to be flattered constantly, he also wants his friend Alex Perry to be offered a scholarship by SC, he’s thrown that out to Bradford on two occasions and they’ve told him respectfully that it’s not the right fit. He said USC should be recruiting him harder than Colorado. He’s not a consensus 5Star that commands the red carpet treatment. USC is USC. And we’ll be USC with or without one kid.

    • Or conversely Sammy, TG & BB didn’t care for Bradford’s neanderthal coaching style.

    • He also stated he was unsure about this approach being taken by the staff, and that we’ll have to wait and see if this approach works with the recruits. Said time will tell. First time I have ever heard Gerard talk recruiting without his usual enthusiasm.

  4. Man oh man Eric Trump, 7:12 pm PDT, just stated the need for any charity to be run honestly and not be used for personal gain –

Pat Haden get ready for your next close-up

      • You meant ‘la bruja’ right? Look Cousin Bill’s fear is the unsealing of those records per Epstein, his (Bill’s) buddy, both of them “….down on Pervert Island.”

    • Pat, are you there, Pat?
Just keep your head down, the Primaries are on, then the Olympics and if you’re really lucky, maybe some big wildfires in Malibu, that should keep you out of the news until the lawsuit.

  5. re…..LANGLEY…….I thought the barbed wire around South Central was installed to keep the bad guys locked in…..and protect the innocents on the outside….Who goofed?
maybe ankle bracelets are the next move……

    • I have the great pleasure of using the block feature and sending you to the holding tank to await our next visit to a pumping station.
