USC v. UCLA

Here’s a follow-up on this morning’s post on secondary ticket prices. Note the chart from Vivid Seats actually shows UCLA is the 11th-highest median ticket price while USC is 16th.

  1. That is strange considering the lack of legacy bel-air tech has and, save for USC, their rather mediocre home schedule

  2. Simple economics, supply and demand… .looks like UCLA owns the CALi market

      • Yeah with Woodie gone I mean come on what else have they got? Stevie Alford?Jimmah Mora? Jo’ Momma?

        • How could we possibly compete with Clay Helton. What a genius hire. Right up there with Andy. But that AD is gone.
          Anyone seen Pat?

      • You would think car chases ending up in that pizzzzzzbowl of a stadium would draw more cheese… .

  3. What this is telling us is that Ucla fans are excited about Ucla. More pointedly, they are probably excited about Josh Rosen. If ucla’s appeal was broad, they would appear in the other chart on the same site that shows the schools that sell tickets when they are visitors in someone else’s stadium. Ucla doesn’t show up in that chart because the excitement for Ucla doesn’t exist outside of their fan base.

    • Interesting comment and well said. Hard to say what other teams are thinking when they buy home-game tickets.
Perhaps it’s that SoCal is so much easier to beat now and there is so much demand to see them beaten by the home team. I think it’s called payback.

      • J, it looked awfully easy for SC to beat UCLA last year. You said all USC will see is Vanderdoes in the backfield this season, but all UCLA seen was Rasheem Green taking a fumble back 40 yards for the TD, and Iman Marshall intercept Rosen not once, but twice. Mora doesn’t own anything. In fact his rents due.

        • Really? one out of the last 4 and suddenly you’re the dominant force in LA?
I think you will be unpleasantly surprised when your yet-to-be named QB play UCLA.
          Good thing you have two.

          • Yes really. And always remember why you won 3 in a row. That window is closed. Time to pay the rent. Try playing a USC team that actually has 85 scholarship players. Here comes the pain.

  4. Are those figures correct for USC? They show $92. to get in for the ND game. I don’t think that’s true. I notice on Stubhub the other day the lowest price was $110. HecK the over the counter lowest price thru SC is $100.

USC has one of the most difficult schedules in the nation hence another reason for a greater demands. Do these prices included home and away games?

I’m a little suspect of that Utah price being that high.

One factor that may keep ticket prices down for SC is with the Rams playing in the same stadium some LA fans will opt to go to Rams games with there limited dollars.

I will say I remember back in the day when USC and UCLA shared the Coliseum. The UCLA players would bring their comp tickets over to the USC guys because the SC ALUMS were paying a higher price for the prime seats. lol

    • TL, all this chart will tell you is how rabid, hopeful and excited a given fan base is. All of these numbers will change once these dates get closer and some games have been played as well.

Let’s look at 2 completely random examples: Ucla and USC. Right now Ucla is in their football golden years (beleive it or not) and they have a true to life golden boy heisman candidate at QB. Their fans are excited, expectant and they are buying up tickets early because they want to be able to say, “I was there when…” At ‘SC, honestly, I don’t think we really know what to expect. We’re all hopeful, but with all the changes and uncertainty, we’re not rushing out to buy tickets like our hair is on fire. Just like these recruits, the media, opponents and the whole world, we need to see what Helton and his squad are about.

Anyway, look at the list and you’ll see teams who have fan bases that have nothing else to do than obsess over football. They always buy tickets early and often and those same teams will be on this chart every year. Ucla is an interloper on this chart and it’s all about Rosen and the power of hype.

    • Demand should be sky high, right up to the end of the Alabama game.

  5. A question for the wolfman behind the curtain:
Does the median ticket price include the donation required to buy the ticket?

  6. It could show how gullible some people are to pay that much for ucla tickets and get so little in return. Perhaps Mora is at the turnstile face cupping everyone as they come in.

  7. Who even has this information and cares? Is this the resale value of a ticket from one site, which doesn’t tell you a lot, plus every ticket value is based on where it’s located in the stadium, so if there are front row tickets on the 50 yard line for Boise St. vs. Wyoming they would probably be more valuable than nose bleed seats for USC vs. Stanford. So what, who cares.
