USC Morning Buzz: How Is Cody Kessler Doing In Cleveland?

  1. Who is Sam Monson? It does not matter how hard he throws. What matters is that the receivers adjust to the velocity and Kessler has to anticipate to make up for the lack of the speed of the ball.

    • Gonna have to disagree there. If you don’t have a certain level of arm strength you just can’t play QB in the NFL. That’s been the case forever.

      • Joe Montana didn’t have great arm strength (or mobility), yet he didn’t pretty well.

          • I don’t disagree. Cody also isn’t in the same offensive system that Montana was with Bill Walsh.

      • I agree, however, Cleveland would not have drafted him if he did not have the certain speed to throw the ball. I am sure they timed his throws while he was working out in March or April. So to be drafted, then Cleveland said, he does have the talent to throw the ball at the nfl level. Now, the question is, how much more potential does Kessler have to grow or has he reached his peak. WIth two or three seasons under his belt, both the team and the player will see what he has developed into. Time will tell.

      • Maybe unwittingly you guys are making the point that Cody would fit better the way the game was played in the Unitas and Montana eras. Cody’s game does kind of remind me of Bernie Kosar, but he wouldn’t start now either.

  2. Scott wolf/gotroy22 , is the biggest loser I have ever seen! He hatesev Tyrone who has ever been involved with USC, with the exception of Ed orgeron, norm chow, and petros.

The guy is the most black and white person I have ever seen. He either really hates someone, or completely loves them. And if he hates you, there is absolutely no way he will write something positive about you no matter what you do. If Lane Kiffin, were to find a cure for AIDS, then wolf would say “what took him so long.” Apparently Cody Kessler is on his hate list, too. It’s such a shame because Kessler is one of the classiest USC players I have ever seen. Wolf/gt22 I would hate to be you!

  3. oh c’mon, Monson!! there are LOTS of weak armed players in this league!!!

    (chortle)….they’re called PUNTERS!!!

  4. Happy Cody is getting a shot in the pro’s. But I think its a long shot for him. He doesn’t have the arm strength, but he has good accuracy (but less so on long balls). So he has to anticipate and read defenses really quickly. Also not his strength, he tended to lock on receivers. Yes he kept some plays alive with his athleticism, but that’s far less possible in pro’s. Hes going to struggle.

    • It’s great for Cody that he’s at least getting third round money. He was one of the real surprise picks of the draft. I’d be shocked if he became a starter but hopefully he can hang around for awhile and maybe enjoy a little success.

      • I agree. He always seemed like a pretty good guy. Maybe hang in there for while and collect some cash, I’ll be rooting for him.

      • Hue Jackson wasted that 3rd round pick. But Cody will be great with that clipboard.

  5. If arm strength is that important then Max Wittek would have been the starter at USC and drafted by the NFL.

    • Joe Montana had the weakest arm around, but he had the best field vision around. Kessler, reminds me a little of Montana in that regard. No, I don’t think he will have a career like Montana, but cody’s strength was his field vision. Bye had an insane completion percentage his junior year.

        • Read the whole statement! I compared him to Montana in just one regard. In order for Cody Kessler to have a career like Montana he is going to have to get lucky as hell as far as coaches, and teammates are concerned. If joe Montana were drafted by any team other than the 49ers then he would be nowhere close to the greatest of all time. Same with tom Brady, even though I think Brady is better than Montana was. Some people are luckier than others.

    • Nice Helen! Starting to use some Hawaiian language to stage your attacks!

  6. GEEZ LOUISE!!! your INSECURITIES are showing!!! no one said BH was going to chase a HOF’er out of his job as beloved starter for the Packers!!

THIS post is about the sad fact Cody throws like a little girl! take it up with Sam Monson, why don’t ya???

  7. This is where I’m going to get a lesson, because if Cody Kessler makes it in the nfl , then I will be proven wrong with my evaluation. Because I always compared Kessler’s situation to John David Booty’s , who only had success because of the college talent around him, and had no nfl caliber, arm.

  8. Don’t forget to add Hundly water for the starters. That way he can say he has been an in nfl huddle.

  9. -this post was generated for the express purpose of having we the readers to respond and bash Cody. But alas most responses have been reasonable, sane, and fairminded.

  10. The ball comes out of Max Browne’s hand at a completely different velocity than it does for Sam Darnold. Still not sure if it’s an issue, but it’s visible.

    • You got that right. He tried the same with Kiffin but the Bama National Championship kinda shot that down.

    • Remind yourself of CK’s last bozo u pass: a 3 bouncer to a receiver 5 yds. short of meaningless, useless first down on the last play of another ugly bozo u loss.

And Cleveland drafts CK in the third round? Cleveland must be channeling Al Davis X-File advice.

  11. Hundley: 3-0 vs bozo u and Rodgers b/u.

Kessler: 1-2 vs UCLA and drafted by the Cleveland loser’s. ‘Nuff said.

    Andyain’twinning: 3-5 vs UCLA

    #Andyain’twinningwithalosingrecord.

      • Than we can’t mention Matt Barfly.

BTW Reggie Bush the FB rumor, will to sign and sit on the Buffalo Bills bench.

I’m guessing his cheap St. Louis Stadium lawsuit is so frivolous that sitting on the Bills bench has better prospects.

  12. “CRICKETS!!!!!!!!!!” What’s that, your new elementary school sandbox putdown.

If Rodgers’ had committed 6 TO’s (count ’em Andyain’twinningorrecruiting 1,2, 3,4,5,6) BH would enter the game in relief.

Matt Barfly, hopefully his shoulder has healed, sat on AZ’s bench the whole game while Carson the Bomber single handedly lost AZ the NFL Championship and SB bid. Carson Bomber ain’t winning either- Choka, choka, choka, choka.

Hence the NO former bozo QB has started a SB game in its 50 year history streak continues – just like bozo u oooooooo forever BB NC goose egg.

    bozo u whiners, not winners.
