NFL Standards Are Different

RAMS.FIELD.WORKHave you ever seen this many guys working on the field before a USC game? The NFL has higher standards and you can see in action as a crew with squeegees working the field before last night’s Rams game.

  1. Yeah well the NFL is like your local fire dept. cept’ it ain’t financed by tax dollars i,e. they have a bunch of people that are holding up a wall.

While were on it – why doesn’t the NFL pay all 129 div. 1 programs an annual payment for being their minor league – same for the NBA? Why is it the colleges are held up as the villains for not paying the athletes and not the NFL or NBA?

    • Did any of you catch the dollar figure that US olympians said they generated for winning medals .. I think the dollar figue was $885k.. I cant fiind that article, I saw it on twitter.

  2. Just when I thought Wolf couldn’t get any dumber with his inane posts he proves me wrong. We haven’t had rain since early Spring, but he seems to think we had a deluge a couple of hours before kickoff yesterday.
Scottie, pay attention, because I’m only go to go over this once. You use a squeegee when removing water/moisture from a surface; be it grass, concrete, wood, etc. What the groundsmen are doing here is striping the grass, where they push the grains of the grass blades in one direction and then another. When the sunshine or any other light source hits the blades of grass, it gives the appearance of one stripe being darker than the other. This is done to give the turf a more appealing look for television.
Now, if that isn’t simple enough for you to comprehend then I don’t know what to tell you.

    • Pretty good. With my work dealing with Levi Stadium, Avaya Stadium, and Stanford Stadium, the mowers have rollers that roll the turf one way and another to give the look you’re talking about. The NFL doesn’t necessarily have higher standards that require extra guys, it’s the fact that the Coliseum has basically been turned into the Oakland A’s stadium with dual teams. Thus double the work. That’s most likely what Flow here is missing. That’s a ton of work. No small task.

      • Oakland stripes out well because they have a Bermuda grass base infused with some blue grass. Most big league teams do the same. Stanford’s turf is really good but it goes dormant around November-december.

        • Not to get overly technical: Stanford’s is bermuda as well, overseeded with blue/rye. Yes, the bermuda goes dormant when the weather gets colder. Either way, Clay Wood does an excellent job in Oakland.

  3. Does anyone know how much USC is getting for rent from the Rams? Does ‘SC get a piece of their gate? What about concessions? Any details on the deal insiders? Mr Wolf??

      • Just curious as to what kind of deal was made and how much it brings in. Any idea of how much the state pays for Ucla to play in the Rose Bowl?

          • So the city is gambling along with them… Hopefully ‘SC is getting a piece of the Rams’ gate if 90k are going to show up on Sundays. Thanks for the info, Krystal.

          • Ha ha ha. That’s funny, but I think bringing money in is one of the things he was good at.

    • According to NYT, USC received one-time payment of $5M. They’ll receive 8℅ of gate receipts plus split concessions 50/50

      • So, USC will collect on average at 70,000 fans x $45.00 per ticket x 8 games @ 8%= $2,000,000 per year times 3 years = $6,000,000 plus concession and merchandise. The money saver is if the Rams pays not only their security, electricity, water, but for USC as well.

        • Nice little revenue stream, but it still doesn’t replace what we’re losing in TV money and it’s gone in 3 years.

Thanks for the info and for taking the time.

          • Clay, thank you for your comment. I usually am very conservative on figures. If Pat was smart, he would put the money into REIT that pays 10% return per year. Yes there are REITS that pay that because I have bought stock in a company like that. If that is the case, then he earns $600k and can put it to good use like paying for a coach or two

          • Makes sense to me, but I’m sure there must be some downside risk to doing that. There are signs that people didn’t learn their lesson from 2008.

          • A REIT has to pay 90% in dividend. Or they could buy their own apt complex and collect rent. There is risk unless u plant it in a bank at less than 1% per year

          • Sounds like a creative idea that has some merit. It sure beats the heck out of putting it to sleep in a bank.
