  1. Pittman and Vaughns are next in line of the great string of WR we have going. Robert Woods, Marqise Lee, Nelson Agholar, Juju Smith-Schuster and these two are supposed to be just as good. Don’t forget about Wole Betiku, I keep hearing that he’s been making noise getting to the quarterback and will most likely Crack the 2nd string this season.

    • Didn’t SW just post that USC’s frosh WRs looked subpar to past stars who had immed displayed big-time talent? Yes, he did. We call him Mr. Evaluator!

    • That is a bit irksome considering that TEs and RBs can be a young QB’s best friends in the passing game. I seriously doubt they have overlooked the TEs and my best guess is that they are trying to keep some things under wraps. It appears to be a nice TE group and I think we can exploit Bama’s LBs in coverage.

      • I hope so. You can make the argument that we have used our TE’S since 2011 with Xavier Grimble and Randall Teller. It would go a long ways against Alabama to hit our TE’s for 9 yards every now and then.

        • I think you need to go back even farther than that as Grimble and Telfer seemed lightly used too. I think Fred Davis was the last one that really got to stretch his legs.

          • I have been to two practices and yes, they are throwing to the tight ends. The receiving corp has to be the best in the country though. They all can catch and fly.

          • I might be willing to say th WR group is the deepest corp, but they have to show me they’re the best. I love the WRs, but the TEs are important chess pieces that we need to utilize more than we have been. I’m glad to get another opinion from someone who has been out there. Thank you for your input.

          • I agree about the te’s. A five yard dump off is just as good as a five yard run. However, usually the te is not covered or he can bowl for another five yards. The middle is usually open with the receivers going down field. You are welcome

          • Our offense was rolling that year. Woods and Lee were both 1000 yard receivers, McNeil was a 1000 yard rusher and we actually used our TE’S our offense was on fire. Then in 2012 we only threw to Lee and the rest is history.

          • The offense did well that year, but Telfer only caught 26 balls that year and Grimble 15. Fred Davis caught 62 by himself his last year. What I want to see is the TE group collectively catch as least as many balls as Fred Davis did. Telfer and Grimble should’ve had better careers, but we were on that one receiver fixation and have been ever since.

          • 41 catches is very solid in an offense like that. Davis was awesome, he was a 5Star WR from Ohio who was big and athletic enough to play TE and he won the Mackey Award. Kiffin was definitely fixated on our receivers. He and Barkley even pointed the finger at each other on that issue. We have a stable of TE’S now with Tyler Petite, Taylor McNamara, Daniel Imatorbhebhe and Cary Angelina. All good sized and we need to take advantage of having these guys while we have them. Like you said it makes a QB’s life a lot easier, especially a new or young one.

          • 41 is decent, but there was unrealized potential there in my mind and I think we’d probably agree on that. Telfer was a converted WR and he should’ve been able to give defenses fits with matchup problems. What I want to see is us using our TEs like Stanford does.

          • Hopefully we can use our TE’S like Stanford. It’s a big reason why they are so physical.

  2. Lots of good reports about Jackie Jones during the summer, but no mention by Helton yesterday. I wonder why.
