USC Coach Clay Helton Will Name Starting QB Tomorrow

DARNOLD.BROWNEUSC coach Clay Helton said today he will name a starting QB tomorrow. That is a day earlier than anticipated. The consensus among the media is Helton will take the safe route and name Max Browne the starter.

During today’s final scrimmage, Browne completed 14 of 22 passes with 2 TDs. Darnold was 10 of 18 with 1 TD. For the entire training camp, Browne threw six interceptions to Darnold’s one.

  1. Well there you have it – 2 td’s to 1. Here’s the thing about the number of interceptions during “camp” – it’s a time to let loose and throw some balls – it is camp! When the pressure is on, and the competiton is on the line, what happened? No picks with 63% completions for Max – so what does it mean? Max and Sam are both great, start Max and know we are set with an excellent back-up.

Time to move on and get ready for Bama

    • Yolo —I bet you two orders of Tiramisu from Fabiani’s that Max throws two interceptions against Alabama in what would otherwise (and still may) be a close game.

        • Sam, my bud, I never want to let you down. Even if Max throws a couple to the wrong guys, I think he’ll redeem himself ….and USC will come out on top in a very exciting game.

          • Always! Just busting your chops. Just knock on wood to wipe that 2 INTS possibility away. We’re always good Mike!

          • Back in the day, Sam, I knew a girl at USC who told me to always say “pooh pooh pooh” after a bad thought in order to make it disappear.

          • Sounds like she was some girl or you wouldn’t have remembered that. I will try and remember that from now. Good score Mike!

          • Yeah, she was, Sam. Theater Arts major who asked me to rehearse a play with her…and when we got to “the kiss” in the script, I just read it and moved on….

          • #alabama61-bozoumaybe3. bozo u will need longer than 60 mins to solve the Tide Def.

bozo u reminds me of the Polish Cavalry vs German Panzers.

          • 2014: Alabama 17 Mississippi 23
            2015: Alabama 37 Mississippi 43

          • bozo u isn’t Mississippi at home.

bozo u is playing in Tixas Stadium – the closest thing to the Roman Coliseum, where hungry lions dined on praying christians.

God and 12,000 angels can’t prevent the bozo u slaughter.

  2. Even a monkey can count the number of interceptions, but (Blogger) there’s more to evaluating talent than this statistic.

Let me guess, the Blogger will disagree with Helton’s decision tomorrow.

  3. Depth is the defining issue here. You lose one of these QB’s to injury, you better have the other available to take over or there will be too big of a drop-off in QB execution. Browne will be chosen!.

  4. Typical Wolfe article, always spinning it for the underdog regardless. Scott: I often enjoy that your articles go against the grain. Other times, I feel that you focus on one item just to have something to stir the pot & miss the overall formula. Doing so inhibits your credibility. And it really isn’t fair to players when you try to get the average reader to formulate a judgement while utilizing a narrow perspective. I have watched both Qbs for a long time & they bring different skill sets to the table. At this time, Max has a little more poise & scans the field. Sam tends to lock in on the first read, then tuck & run if not open. Writers fail to mention that Browne goes against the starters (more interceptions playing against Adore) & Darnold typically throws vs the backups. Articles such as this only serve a purpose in setting the stage for Qb controversy. Either one will struggle vs Alabama in an opener. So let’s not be quick to think the other is the savior. It takes an entire team, lineman must block & receivers get open. Too much focus is on interceptions in camp. Several of those went through receiver hands. Focusing an article solely on number of camp interceptions paints the overall picture with such a small brush.

    • Hard to argue with a guy who writes with so much sincerity and sense of fairness.

      • The big question is how many yards can Sam run when he tucks? Helton said in the presser that there will be special short yardage or goaline packages for Sam so we will see him at times

        #MarkMyWords

        • I hope we see him plenty when we get to Alabama’s 5 yard line,Yolo. He looked great in those situations in practice.

  5. Well, you just might be right on ALL counts, Yolo —maybe Max opens it up and throws 4 touchdowns and two picks. If I don’t die of a heart attack before it ends that could be a great game to watch!

      • I’m smiling cuz I just read yesterday that, after a day of super indulgent over-consumption of fatty foods [especially for guys like us who don’t ordinarily eat a lot of fat], it’s smart to chew on an aspirin before you go to bed [I think I saw this article right next to the one that features a photo of a woman holding her husband’s nose in bed to prevent him from snoring —don’t let anyone ever tell you you can’t learn stuff on this site).

  6. I’ve consulted with the Oracles on this one. They say both should play…

    14 days 22hrs til KICKOFF✌

  7. Adoree Jackson and Chris Hawkins both said Max Browne is the starter.

Adoree-“the one with the #4 on his jersey’

Nevermind they both have a 4 on their jersey.

  8. Charlie. You are one guy I can have a back and fourth with without actually being annoyed, but beware of Saturday September 3rd 2016, 12:30pm @Texas A&M, Kyle Field and 102,000 screaming Aggies. AKA “the 12th man”
