USC Ranked No. 20 In AP Poll

There are five Pac-12 teams in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll and USC sits right where you would expect: No. 20. Stanford is No. 8; Washington 14; UCLA 16 and Oregon 24.

The full poll is after the jump. My ballot is here.

  1. Scott, I love you but if USC beats Alabama and we only move up to, say, #23 on your ballot —- a credibility issue will arise.

    • “If.” One can hope…

However, your statement is true. And Flow has Michigan at #1. That Harbaugh obsession is coming back.

      • Man, you gotta hand it to Scott. I wouldn’t want to be the guy who made Michigan #1 when they ADD
Wisconsin and Iowa to their schedule this year —and play Michigan State AND Ohio State on the road.

          • Garrett and Harbaugh? Hmmmm?
You know what would have been more fun to watch than football itself, marv? Haden AND Harbaugh. Sample conversation:
Haden: I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you to be more respectful.
            Harbaugh: Stick it.
Haden: That’s exactly the attitude that has to stop.
            Harbaugh: Bye.

          • Oh, you got that right. [And the last football coach he hired, for good or ill, shares that philosophy]…….

          • Haden didn’t hire Kiffin. Garrett did. He issued the public statement and took credit in print for the hire, talking about how he had watched him closely as an asst, et al.

          • Haden didn’t hire Kiffin. Garrett did and it was entirely his call to make that move or not. Guess what. Swann backs CH 150%. And if Nikias tells him to fire CH, he’ll do it immed.

          • I didn’t say Haden hired Kiffin. Kiffin would still be here (scary thought) if Haden would have had his say.

      • Rarely works well in reverse – i.e. NFL to college ‘because’ if you’re good in the NFL you’re not fool enough to go back to the colleges and obviously Sabin is a glaring exception it rarely works well then again Harbaugh may also have it

        • They would declare a holiday at Oregon(Nike U) if Chip came back. Also JR did it but not successfully.

          • John Robinson’s Rose Bowl winning 1995 team should have won a national title with Keyshawn leading the way.

          • I wish. We couldn’t bear Notre Dame, UCLA and Washington that year out three toughest games.

          • I’ll never forget that bizarre ruin game when SC took 9 minutes to score dinking and dunking to Keyshawn to get it within 4 and didn’t leave enough time to get the ball back.

          • Jolly John had a decent run in the NFL – two NFC Games but alas no cigar and he proved the old adage you need a great coach and great players to win i.e. UNLV

          • USC second time around would have been better if he wasn’t spending all his time fighting Garret.

          • Well believe me Robinson brought that completely on himself. The school was hit with sanctions at the end of the 1981 season – JR’s last year on his first stint – he left for the NFL kind of like another coach who booked after the 2009 season.

Garrett never forgot what JR had done in abandoning the school and even though he (Garrett) gave him (JR) an extension he always wanted Robinson gone. Frankly Garrett was right.

          • That was Garett’s problem, he was always trying to get even with his betters. He was real lucky to have hired PC.

          • No you’re wrong – it was a stand Garrett took for the good of the program and the university. John Robinson chose to evade the impact of stunts he’d ignored or was willingly ignorant of – he bailed out.

Garrett didn’t forget that – contrast that with the yet to be revealed blow back committed by the athletic director that replaced Garrett

On the flip side – why the continuing silence per Pat Haden and his plundering for himself and his immediate relatives of a foundation he had an obligation to care for?

Why? Why nothing from Nikias? Why no statement from the Board Of Trustees? Why is Haden still employed by USC?

        • I was thinking the same, Bill Walsh .. was another HC that found success in the nfl vs cfb..

          • Walsh sandwiched his remarkable run with the 49ers’ with two stints at Stanford and, save for his 1sy year back both times at Stanford, they were both a bust.

55 – you made me realize that Walsh was that ‘guy’
