USC’s offense huddles at Legion Field in Birmingham as more than 77,000 watched the No. 7-ranked Trojans play the No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide in 1978. USC won, 24-14.

SWEET !!! Coach John Robinson’s Team.
We beat Forrest Gump and that’s where Dr. Pepper was started.
What was so insulting they split the NC with AL even though we defeated them
Major John Reisman (Lee Marvin) “Besides us southern boys gotsta stick together”
This system isn’t rigger to favor SC. Never has been.
Great Post. Alvarado. We lost our center for one game at Arizona State and lost, I believe, 20-3. All other 1978 opponents were HAMMERED AND HAMMERED HARD. Let’s consider that 1978 Season an UNDISPUTED NCAA USC Trojan National Championship,.Won on the Field of Play by Kicking Bama’s Crimson A@@ !!!
schammer47 sad to say but Jim is right – it is the world vs. USC – it truly is. That con job in So. Bend-IN that never has to play a CCG nor compete year after year against the same 6-7 opponents and yet somehow they’re in the national discussion for the CFB CG?
I doubt we take AL down only because I’m not sure Brown has the experience of defeat etched in deep enough to pull from within and rise up. I think Helton ‘might’ only because of the losses to ‘The Princess’ legoland and WI.
But you know this could be magic a mere 12 days hence – it’s the reason ‘The Princess’ moved their game against TX to Sunday – no one could care about it up against USC vs. AL. and ‘the Princess’ knows it.
In my opinion, that was a Sportswriter’s Makeup Vote for Alabama after they got jumped by Notre Dame in the Final Poll in 1977.
Yeah good ole notre dame always gets the benefit just as they did in 1966…no CCG for this con job….nah just a smooth ride into a post-season slot for the mythical national championship game.
28 years and counting…..
Not only did we beat them but we beat them in their house(or at least in Birmingham). They were 11-1 and we were 12-1 but their one loss was to us in their backyard. So how did the AP choose them over us?
SC really needs this win. Beating Alabama would be a monumental step forward for this program especially after the last 6 years. I hope they win. Beating Bama would be comparable to when they beat Auburn back in 2003(the first game of the year).
You need to win this game for pride, the Pac 12 and so you don’t go into an early tail spin and degrade our victory over SoCal in November.

I’m assuming that you’re a UCLA fan when you talk about “our win over SoCal”. I think that you’re making that prediction with your heart more than your head.
He forgets last year and .. The last 12 of 16 ..USC is 13-4 against Puckerup U.. They get all wet and sticky when we play them, and of course the Stanford Cardinals own them.. 0-8!
Personally, I think Jim Mora will be gone soon. I think that he has overstayed his welcome.
And to think we pay his salary. Highest paid State of California employee.. Lol.. Refund!
I hope that we keep paying his salary. I really think that the players are starting to get tired of this guy. He’s hard to deal with. I think that this is going to take it’s toll on his coaching and his recruiting. And that’s good for USC.
I think he makes almost as much as St. Pat did (before endorsements, appearances and board member income)

I’m not a big fan of Jim Mora but he’s worth 10 times as much as PH. Paying St. Pat that kind of money is as rediculouse as the Lakers paying Mozgov 64 million.
We pay the Cow Poly soccer coach’s salary also, CowPolyFan3.0.
You forget the 2 vacated victories because of Reggie Bush’s greed, CowPolyFan3.0. It’s 10 out of the last 16.
yes, sir Mr. 55. Whatever you say, sir.
We need a big win or we’ll be flipping big 2 star QB recruits….
New QB in McDonald, but Strong Offensive Line and good running backs. Similarities in 2016?
Well it rolls back to Kiffin – how much pressure is he feeling going up against the last time he had a full=time HC job – USC? He’s feeling a lot – an awful awful lot and ‘that’ might very well be the key to taking he and AL down. Deciphering and anticipating his offensive schemes and exploiting them.
poor T-Fail, every time wolfman posts a historic pic, the fool thinks someone died.

CowPolyFan3.0 is melting down into his T-Fail persona.
big time. he was so ashamed of his Cow Poly Heritage…poor wittle guey.
I was at the game at Legion Field when SC and Charles White brutalized ‘Bama. We were unquestionably the best team in the country, but the Tide had Bear Bryant – a true God who stood 6 foot 4 while walking on water in the south. He died of a heart attack in 1983 at age 69, only 37 days after he ended a 38-year career as the winningest college football coach in history.
That was the year I learned that prejudices and biases rule common sense.
Troy beat those Southern boys in their own home town something awful, but that did not deter them from claiming a piece of the national championship.
No wonder there are courts of law to dig out the truth
