Who Is Special?

It’s very, very early. That said, it took one or two practices to see Mike Williams, Robert Woods, Marqise Lee and JuJu Smith-Schuster were special. If someone asked who is special among the freshmen I would say no one. I think Michael Pittman can be but I can’t say it like I could about those above-mentioned receivers.

  1. That’s funny I don’t remember any post or articles on how JuJu, Lee or Woods where special before they broke out. Why don’t you enlighten us on who on the roster that is new this year that looks good?

    • BOS, SW refuses to pander to half wit Rah-Rah’s such as yourself.

      • You would know all about pandering. Spend a little time on a UCLA blog and try not to be such a boring loser.

    • To have done that, Wolfie would have been writing something positive about USC and we know he avoids that.

  2. I could say since the very first day I stepped foot on this blog that I wasn’t coming here for any “real USC football intel” because it was a joke from the beginning. The conversation is what drew me in. The SC fans here are what made me want to be here. The blogger is just the side show. But to answer his question, every SC beat writer not named SW say Michael Pittman and/or Tyler Vaughns are the next big thing at SC. Only they might not make there marks early as freshmen like Woods, etc. And remember that Williams came to SC when we were just starting in year 2 with Carroll and that the others came in during sanctions where playing time was uh-plenty. Big, big difference.

    • And Flow’s trend proves accurate: There can be gaps on when a freshman player “appears special,” because that’s an awfully large gap between BMW and Robert Woods sans “special players” early on. Especially in the PC era.

          • Good thing you know where B. Dixon for the next 6 years – shinning Henley’s shoes and fetching his laundry.

Never let be said a bozo u education doesn’t prepare someone for a nickel + 1 stint in the Joint.

          • I might deliver packages every day to Bruins, but they make my fries every Thursday at Fat Burger.

          • You commute a long way for $7.50 an hour.

Swamping out pig styes in the Inland Empire for food just doesn’t cut it eh Sammy.

          • Im in the best union in the world pu**Y cat. I won’t be in the backyard kiddie pool anytime soon.

          • Pig stye swampers have a union? I’m guessing your ilk are tired of the pigs getting the choice garbage. Fight on Sammy.

          • The clowns end game is degrading the USC masses, fans, alums like myself and anyone connected to the University.. Sad ..Truly sad! Especially when he never attended Ucla..

    • Spot on buddy.WR’s aside.Last year look at the number of freshman who were “Special”.This year will have its freshman too, not the same number, only because we are back to depth in many positions.

        • The new O and D will give the kids plenty of exposure to excel .. Several kids will emerge as stars and others will need time to learn the new concepts at full game speed.

          • I think guys like Gustin, Green, Tell, Jefferson, Masina, on defense who all got valuable playing time last year will hit their strides. ROJO will be dynamic, and everyone is saying to watch out for Deonte Burnett. I know I’m missing someone, but we’re gonna see new stars step up with Cam, Adoree, Biggie, etc.

          • They say he knows how to follow blocks and always gets that extra yard. He will get carries, but it may be hard with Thunder and Lightning part2 ahead of him.

          • If the OL controls ,and really dominates ,the complexion of our games will change from recent years.Especially the second half.

          • Exactly. We need to control the ball and wear teams out like we did against UCLA. The play of our OLINE is just as important as the DLine coming along.

    • Please apply for the Inside USC Blogger position. You have my vote, and you will do very well, though I have to say SW has set an unbelievably low bar.

      • Exactly. He hasn’t set the bar at all. I see comments from all of you everyday that is better than SW. He doesn’t even try.

  3. Well, isn’t that special. Why is wolf writing on blogs, when his real talent is scouting?!?! Amazing!

  4. Another disappointing post, so to change gears here is my vote (if had a vote) for Team Captain assuming 5 – hope others contribute! (Maybe too obvious anyway)

    Max Browne
    JuJu Smith
    Zach Banner
    Cam Smith
    Adoree Jackson

    • Almost Perfect, Yolo —-I just wish we could hold off on naming Banner until halftime of the Alabama game….

      • Banner will have a banner year, brother

        #StuckInAnElevatorElevatedHimToHigherHighs

        • 9/3/16 is put up or shut up day for the entire O-Line. If they keep Alabama’s D-Line out of our backfield it’s gonna be a beautiful game regardless of how our D plays.

    • Spot on Yolo, I wonder if Chad Wheeler will be voted one or not since he had that off the field incident during the Holiday Bowl practice.

    • Absolutely YoYo, because three of the 4 receivers named are flat out NFL busts. Somethings never change.

  5. wolfman, from the first day I read your dulcet prose, I knew this was the blog for me!! It was like the first time a read a Murray column or listened to Vin Dawg call a game!!!

    • Lots of great Trojans on this blog —really respect them. They almost always make smarter observations than you get from the so called pros. But they are getting a little too hard on Scott again. He’s kinda damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. For all his left handed compliments he still provides a bunch of ahead-of-the-curve predictions and insights.

  6. Special sports writers: Allan Malamud, Bill Plaschke, Bill Dwyre, Jim Murray were special. what about blogger? He sucks! What about Gary Klein you say. I can’t say it like those above but I do know that SW will never be special.

  7. The special player is injured and hasn’t practiced yet. His name is Jamel Cook
