Pete Carroll v. Nick Saban

Who would win if Pete Carroll were still at USC and the teams played next week?

    • Saul —-obviously, you haven’t heard about the “September Surprise!” The same day Marshawn Lynch started practicing with Cal, Pete signed a one game contract with USC.

  1. Here’s a better question; What if Saban was the coach of the Trojans, and Carroll was the coach of the Tide – who would win then?

    • Ha! I know where this is heading, Yolo! In the next ten minutes somebody (probably Charlie) is gonna ask who’d win if Saban coached USC in the first half and Alabama in the second half.

    • Hopefully the time the D has spent dealing with Darnold will pay off against the freshman sensation Hurt – my guess is that Darnold is better than Hurt

  2. Carroll wins this. Why????? Because Saban went to the NFL and had a hard time getting players to play for him. Carroll has Championships on both the college and pro levels. Easy. Am I being biased? Probably.

    • Carroll had trouble getting players at New England to play for him – it’s the only way you learn – failure which is why I hope Helton’s learned from his last two games this past year.

      • Why ground your posts in reality? No one else here does so. That should be #1 on the Rules for Posting:

  3. You’re the blogger SW. For once, make a prediction, back it up, and see what we say. Blogging 101.

  4. I don’t think either would win…The players play the game. This is like asking who win in a fight between Joe DiMaggio and Yogi Berra it aint gonna happen

  5. I don’t know about Carroll vs. Saban, but you know who would ultimately win?

    Twenty-two mini-Ditkas.

    DaBearzzzzz!

  6. Fun fact for ya…

USC’S 7 wins over #1 teams are the most of any school.

    Just Saying.

    • Can? Of course it can. 10 points is really nothing. They are a strong, veteran team, but I think most people would put the true spread at 14 – 17 points. This game feels like that home and home against Florida State in the 90’s. We should have beat those guys in the Coli.

      • Damn Brian Kelly and his dropped pic six!

        But how about this Lamont…

  7. Carrolls team with Chow, Kiffin/Sark, or Bates? Which Alabama teams? You need to be more specific.

  8. Trick question…..If Pete was still at USC the SEC would never allow this game to happen

    • Yeah their ‘commissioner’ Slive would have ordered any deal null and void just like OK’s AD Castiglione did when they denied they were backing out.

  9. Pete was a coach you helped run out of town with your stupid and childish “Cesar” shtick

  10. It’s simple. Alabama never takes this game if Pete Carroll were still at USC. They would avoid SC like the plague, and so would the other SEC front runners. I believe this is the first game vs an SEC Team since Arkansas came into town and got it handed to them.

  11. Unless Pete Carroll gained 100 pounds of muscle, is now 35 years younger, and can play the defensive line, then my money is on Alabama this year.
Yet, I would not bet the house on this game. It is, afterall, a sporting event.

  12. If Pete were still at SC, I don’t believe that next week’s game would have been the first meeting between the two coaches. Pete’s teams would certainly have had a say in what happened at the end of the year even if they didn’t play head to head. A Pete led USC team with more wins would have shaken up the polls.

Of his 4 title teams, only 1 went undefeated (2009). Even if not in a title game, I think the BCS might have paired up USC and Bama in one of those years depending on USC’s record (2011 comes to mind as there was an uproar on LSU and Bama meeting again in the postseason).

  13. That depends. Are we talking pre-2005 Pete Carroll with Norm Chow as offensive coordinator?

  14. USC would be on an 84 game winning streak with 6 national championships back-to-back-to-back…er… 6-Pete, probably 4 or 5 heismans in a row. Unfortunately, Nick Saban would have been fired long ago for the 65-0 blow out against USC in the 2013 championship game, but since this is hypothetical, lets pretend that Bill O’Brien didn’t take over the Crimson Tide in 2014, therefore this game is just another SC blow out of the best team in the SEC 99-0, if the refs don’t stop it again midway through the 3rd quarter like they did the two championship games before.

  15. Now lets discuss what would happen in this game if they didn’t play it with footballs, but with rhubarb pies, and they didn’t wear uniforms but all the players had to dress up like Flo from Mel’s Diner and Alabama was coached by Don Knotts and USC was coached by Pat Riley, and the rules were first team to 9 wins. And the game was played at Soldier Field and it happened on December 19, instead of September 3 and also everyone watching it had black and white TV’s instead of flat screens and Donald Trump was actually running for re-election.

  16. they both have had failure and success, and learned from both…if Pete were still here, I think SC would win, and may with Helton…depends on SC defense, Alabamas will be great…

  17. Saban- lest we forget the yes men/Asst. Coaches Pete surrounded himself with prior to departure . . .
