  1. That’s great and shows work ethic, but to quote John wooden dont mistake activity for achievement.

    • Quoting Wooden huh? My fav is “If you shoot for the stars you might make it to the moon!” or how about this one “Never give up…keep trying!” But my absolute best one is “When I need a helping hand I always called Sam Gilbert!”

  2. Sleeping in his office isn’t gonna help Clay’s problems. Truth is, USC will do fine against lesser talent. Win the one-on-ones, it’s a whole new ball game.

What Clay didn’t grasp before the game was that his undisciplined team would never be able win the trench battles, on either side (which the Kiffer and Saban knew was their hole card from the get-go) and he hadn’t really instilled a tougher attitude amongst the Trojans. Once they got tired of getting beat physically and Marshall gave up the sudden easy TD, everything suddenly opened up for the Tide and the rout was on. SC’s D, a little undersized, was on the field constantly because every series was 3-and-out for the O.

Eventually USC’s Ruffin lost his poise and the entire Trojan team started to fall apart. USC was backed up to the 10 for another monumental display of futility vs that amazing ALA D which then scores immed on the pick six. It’s over.

The Tide is a well-oiled machine in all ways. The rest of USC’s opponents will not be like this. Even Stanford will not throttle SC like ALA did.

CH comes off as a naive, ill-prepared dreamer who really never had a chance in this game. USC’s players were basically overwhelmed and helpless in this game as I have never seen before. Helton and Tee could have designed a better game plan, but they would have still lost and probably big because USC was losing every one-on-one on the field. Even USC’s play makers couldn’t make plays against the Tide. Browne basically was no threat to the Tide and he never had more than about 2 seconds to throw.

Helton and the staff got schooled big time but they never could have beat the Tide anyway. Just too much talent, size, confidence and knowledge of how to win going Saban’s way. Tee Martin’s obviously no genius either. But nothing ever really worked, regardless of what he tried, after that first nice pass by USC. ALA adjusted to USC’s every move and the demoralizing stranglehold was on and eventually a confused and I think surprised USC quit. I don’t think USC’s players ever expected to get handled as they did and they lost all composure when they knew it was hopeless.

      • But he was laughing and smiling after the game! I have seen this way too often from adoree. He is always smiling, win or lose! No wonder so many schools shied away from this guy, despite his enormous talent.

        • He’s the modern player who is merely passing through on the way to his pro career and becoming a multimillionaire. Winning or losing is not as important as becoming a top draft pick. And it’s nothing against Adoree. Rosen is exactly the same way. With so much money in sports this is what you get…mercenaries.

          • Laughing, smiling, crying or angry, Adoree played a fantastic game and showed great heart, especially on that amazing run down, when the game was already over. What a competitor. No wonder he almost made the U.S. Olympic team. I’ll take a stud like Adoree every day of the week. A few more players like him and we might have had a chance.

          • There is no doubt he is a great talent will be a top draft pick and a millionaire. SC used to be three deep with players like Adoree. But his priorities are different than a fan’s. While we were wailing and throwing things and descending into a Labor Day funk, he was laughing it up on the field after the game ended. He puts it all out on the field and then moves on to the next game. It is what it is.

          • He has a perfect corner’s disposition. Move on. Next.

Remember when Ruffin was kicking that kid in the crotch and Adoree was trying to help him up at the same time? We saw the best and the worst of Trojans on that play.

          • That’s what made what Ruffin did so bad. There are plenty of opportunities during a game to get a jab or a punch in and nobody will see it, but not when your teammate is helping the opponent up!

          • Yes, finally Adoree Jackson impressed me, and it’s something I’ve been waiting for since his arrival.

          • I agree Rosen seems to be the same way! He is talented as hell, but I wouldn’t want him quarterbacking my team. He kind of reminds me of that Wisconsin quarterback in the movie “draft day.”

          • First time I noticed it was years ago when SC was playing Arizona and the Wildcat star WR Vance Johnson kept running out of bounds after catches instead of turning up field to avoid getting hit. He was already preparing for the NFL draft and protecting himself.

          • I don’t like Rosen! I have my sources at St. John Bosco, and they said that many of his high school teammates were completely turned off by his cockiness.

    • Excellent points. The thing that really bothers me, and a lot of other USC fans, is the fact that this team hoisted up the white flag and gave up when they faced their first sign of adversity. This speaks to the type of character that this team has. Anyone can play hard and have a great attitude when things are going their way, but a real champion will always play the game hard no matter what the score or circumstance. It takes no talent to give your best effort and play the game the right way. Lastly, I think that if Helton can get through the month at 2-2 and 1-1 in conference this could be a decent year with 8 wins. But if USC ends the month at 1-3 and 0-2 in conference, then it’s going to be Katey Bar the Door because he will lose this team.

    • I agree, the Trojans will roll up several wins in the Pac 12. But I wouldn’t say it’s a down year for the conference, it’s just that most of the coaches hired, run finesse programs. Not too many tough, physical teams west of the Rockies, anymore.

  3. Not that SC was ever going to win that game, but the Trojans did let an opportunity slip away when they allowed the reeling Tide freshman throw a Hail Mary over 2 SC defenders for a silly touchdown…And a wideout dropped a long Browne pass that could have set up a touchdown…When the running game obviously was not going to be running well, why not go to a design to protect the quarterback and throw on every down?…At 38-6 it is game over, and who would give a 110% effort at that point. That is not “giving up,” but rather “being human.”…Unlike in past years when Browne was not given game experience in blowouts, it was nice to see Darnold get a bit of experience…Coaches caught too much of the blame in this one–

  4. Porky needs to execute the game plan! Change it impromptu if it’s required! Veto plays if they’re not working! Disciplined team! Show us all he’s head coach material! ACHIEVE!!!
    I know better—you can’t fix stupid!

  5. When you are the head coach of a storied program and lead your team to the worst beat down season opener in its history (that’s 127 years) and worst loss in 50 years….

You might be too embarrassed to come out, or face your family.

Unfortunately, Haden gave him a contract for 5 years….so we will get to see more of his product…yay!

Coaches from USC’s upcoming rivals must be licking their chops…like shooting fish in a barrel

  6. That’s funny after that total beat down i could not sleep. the only thing that kept it from being a total loss weekend was ucla and nd both lost

    • A&M accomplished its goal. They substituted ucla for USC on their schedule and got their win – even though both teams looked like crap.

The Texas/ND game was pretty amazing. Both would have mopped the floor with either ucla or A&M.

    • Shutting down an offense that has three plays in their playbook is plenty easy. Fournette left, Fournette right, Fournette up the middle.

    • I’m stunned myself. SCgrad12 probably nailed it. LSU really has no offense. Yet to think actually Wilcox beat an LSU team seems impossible. Crazy game, this college football.

      • Les Miles is going die a slow death at LSU, because he refuses to get rid of his over paid , offensive coordinator. Miles feels obligated to him, because he introduced him to his wife at Michigan. ..lol The university already made him take a pay cut from 1.2 million to an even 1 million.

  7. He knows the pressure of Utah State suddenly becoming a Must WIn game. Blow this one and possibly staring at 0-4 by the end of the month.

    • SC will blow out Utah State and then Sunshine Pumpers like Hillary will declare all is well.

      • Not even the Sunshine Pumpers will bite on Utah State. Beat Stanford and they’ll be back. Lose to the Cardinal and fear and loathing will reside here.

        • Don’t underestimate their ability to rationalize. We know the Stanford game is the real test. But the Sunshine Pumpers will have a great time tailgating at the game Saturday and forget Alabama ever happened.

  8. Sleeping in his office? It’s confirmed: Helton is a silly person to the core.

After a couple of days to close myself and reflect on the Alabama game, it’s still clear that the entire coaching staff is waaaaaay over its collective heads. Remember that in coaching circles you are nothing more than your win/loss record. USC hired a full-time void.

  9. Bruce Arians who happens to be a very good coach for the , Arizona Cardinals , said it’s a big joke when Coaches sleep in their office. He said you don’t accomplish anything more than the coaches that don’t, which is why he told his staff that those things don’t impress him, and he orders them to go home after practice. Tony Dungey feels the same way, so can someone please tell Helton to knock it off, and go figure out how not to wast timeouts, because I believe he can do that at his kitchen table..lol

  10. It’s the Head coaches Job to have his troops prepared to fight!! That was obviously not the case.. A Good example is Alabama’s coach Texas coach they had there men ready to play smart and hard, my point is USC’s coach failed big TIME , I’ve tried to like coach but he’s not the RIGHT man for the Job!!!!!

  11. I hope he was visited by the ghost of tarmac future. Tossing and turning he realized the Utah State team only scored one less touchdown than Alabama.
Then he thought “what if it’s the players who forgot their assignment and not the coaches that gave the assignment.” How many this one’s on me before I’m left on a tarmac?
    No sleep for the unschooled

  12. The only reason he slept on the couch in the office is because his dog did not want him home. Forget the wife, she was ready with a frying pan. Smart man to stay away from the house. All kidding aside, he is a good man. He might be in too deep of water, but his character shows to be a man of honor.

    • Speaking of character, how did chimp boy do this time? Was there Broke Back Mountain III? I did see him get very angry at Josh, “Deer in the Headlights”, Rosen. So the chimp is still the same.
