Utah State Confident

Utah State was encouraged by watching the USC-Alabama game. Here’s what defensive end Rick Ali’ifua said today about the game: “I definitely feel that we have an opportunity to go in there and win. Obviously, we always feel that way against any team, but seeing it first-hand I feel that there are some areas we can possibly expose against their offense.”

  1. Utah state probably has better coaching from the top to bottom, and have enough talent to stay with USC in the 1st half, but the Trojans win this one in the 4th quarter.

    • Current OR St. coach Gary Andersen came out of there 4 years ago – he darn near took WI down @ WI back in 2012 which prompted them to lure him away to Madison. Matt Wells has been the hc @ UT St. since the beginning 0f the 2013 season – in Mountain West play – 1 first place (2013) and back-to-back 2nd places (2014-2015).

      • So you predicting a UTAH ST victory? Lay it on us, Who will win the game? What’s the score?

        • For you snookums based on the skill set Helton showed Saturday evening – UT St. 15 USC 10

and for the rest of the rubes well let’s just say I Cor. 10:12 “Let Him that thinketh he standeth tke heed lest ye fall!”

          • You’ve obviously been scarred deep. I know you’re just kidding though, so we’ll leave it at that.

          • Alvarado, YOU WANNA PUT YOUR $$$ WHERE YOUR MOUTH IS ?

But then again you’re probably “poor” !

Go chew some sod, but it probably won’t help..,

          • Hmmm sensuous musings…..stangers in the night….what were the chances…lovers at first sight….exchanging glances….

you and me….McClintock and 35th….SW corner….we’ll bathe the old site of Toution and then who knows?

You can pay my wager…you always do you know…hmmm

          • It’s called “Revisionist History” talks about all sorts of things that go overlooked or underappreciated. Episode 4-6 specifically focus on education, with episode 4 being especially pertinent to your work.

        • He is a sleeper – a quick study and a young kid on the rise. Someone Haden hadn’t any interest in – all he knew was his (Hadebn’s) Professor Higgins project Steve Eliza Doolittle Sarkisian.

Andersen is a very intuitive coach

        • Kyle Whittingham is 9-1 in bowl games at UTAH plus 1 undefeated season, and a victory over Nick Sabam. No way Anderson would take over unless Whittingham moved on. Trust me, my BYU friends think Whittingham is Superman.

        • Why yes they did sir – they most certainly did – that was also under Andersen’s stint there.

    • Unless USC quits again and USU does have better coaching than USC, so does a Santa Margarita pop warner team

  2. I doubt he has taken into consideration the fact the USC players may be really pissed off. Not for certain, but they should be.

  3. On positive note.

USC Basketball just got a commitment from Forward Jordan Usher. 6-7 from Georgia. Rivals says Usher is moving up quickly and will be in the next Rivals150 and become a 4-Star next week. They say he can score inside, shoot outside, and is really good from the FT line. Really good pick up by Andy Enfield and the staff. Now lock up Billy Owens!

  4. USC is hiring like Ucla did with Dorrell and Neuheisel.. With the new pressbox being built, with hopes of it being a revenue cash cow, USC will need to hire a coach that will put bodies in that new “palace”.. otherwise, it is just a huge investment for not.. Lynn Swann will either be allowed to make a HC of his choice, or I see him walking away..Best case scenario is Nikias is fired..Too many proud and influential alums to allow the football program to go south..

The program generates $50 plus mil, they lose that, the schools other programs will not exist.

No college coach retreads, it will be a nfl guy!

    • Nah more like what ‘The Princess’ went thorugh after Davies contract was not renewed – Willingham Weis and Ryan but I get the comparison – watching John Adams – opn his way to the Court of King Louis of France against his wife’s remonstrances to stay.

“…cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!”

  5. Who can blame Utah for thinking they have a chance. I believe Covina High has a chance against USC.
It is the definition of insanity to continue doing what they are doing and expect different results.
I hope they get their shift together soon. (Silly spellchecker)

    • Yep! Greinke chose 1 yrs worth of money over playing for a playoff team. He’ll be watching the Dodgers in October.

      • True..Friedman tried to get a pulse on a trade w/Az..to get him back.. They should have signed him.

        • Dodgers were asking the Dbacks to cover a small portion of the money since Greinkes ERA was so high. They said no and the Dodgers backed off.

          • Probably. He hates interviews and compliments/attention. They say he hated Yasiel Puig with a passion.

          • Definitely not alone, but Fred Rogan said the word is Greinke tried to give the Dodgers a hint that if Puig was gone he’d come back. That Greinke and Puig got into a verbal argument on the bus ride to the team Hotel. Greinke still seems like a cry baby.

          • I used to love baseball, I don’t know what happened, but it became too slow for me. the FSU Ole Miss game is turning into a good one though.

          • I loved playing baseball. But it’s an acquired taste. Baseball practice in 90 degree weather s*cks.

          • Not me. We didn’t lose because our QB. It was a lot of things. Lol. I don’t think the QB made any difference in that particular ball game. But I imagine the Utah St game will be a tryout or competition for the start against Stanford.

          • First we need to take care of Utah St. But a conference game is always important, and now Stanford feels like a must win for the morale of the program/season/momentum after the way we played.

          • Trying to be as objective as possible, you’ll learn a lot about this team and staff in the next 3 weeks. I thought your defense looked pretty solid in the first half, but it’s tough match Bama with 3 and outs and once the punter dropped the snap the floodgates opened.

          • As bad as the score was, and as bad as we looked in the 2nd half, I was really impressed with our defense in the first half. They were on the field for too long. I think they’ll be pretty good going forward. I think it was clear that they were on the field for way too many minutes.

          • Agree, if USC shows up for the Utah st. game, that will make no difference. USC has to show up for the fowllowing games like Stanford, Utah, ASU, Colorado, Oregon, ucla, and nd. They need to show improvement. But as far as the national precpetion of usc, they will be a beaten dog for the rest of the season. The only way to change that thought is to win the conference and play in the playoff game and get to the finals. Even then there will be many skeptics.

          • I’m with Brown for the moment too. If the O-line is really this bad however, I would make the switch. Just because if my QB is going to be running for his life half the game, Id rather he have some wheels.

          • SC needs a mobile QB with the lousy OL. Browne had that one nice run but he lacks the speed to avoid a strong rush.

          • Imo I dont think it mattered who played QB against Alabama. But I think SC may need start recruiting more mobile QB’s because football requires that now day.

          • I follow baseball, but like you I don’t watch it much these days. I get the Dodgers alerts on my phone, but this FSU Ole Miss game is really getting interesting.

  6. Pasadena City College was encouraged watching the USC – Alabama game !!!

The Trojan Offensive Line was “pathetic” !

They couldn’t have provided an opening for an Abrams Tank !!

That was the worst Offensive Line that I have seen in recent times !!!!!!!!!!!

And “Biggie” played like “Smallie”, Iman Marshall “lacks” intelligence when he some how “forgot” that he is to stay with his man (???), that’s when the entire game changed !!!

Until then (22 minutes of Game Time) the Trojan Defense played “flawless” Football, Alabama didn’t get 1st down until the 2nd quarter, unreal…

Biggie Marshall is a legend, [In his “own” mind] ? ! ?

As of September 4, 2016, the USC Trojans have the “lowest”
rated Offensive Line in Division 1 Football (And would be halfway in the pack of Division ll Football) !

Ya gotta feel some what from Clay Helton, he didn’t deserve that…

    PracticeOn

  7. I have a feeling that this is going to be a long season. Utah State is a really good team. Even if SC wins, I don’t think they will dominate Utah State. If it’s a real close game, that will do damage to the players confidence in themselves and the coaching staff. You don’t want them to lack confidence going into Stanford and Utah especially when we are playing them in their house.

  8. Look out for Kent Myers and the mighty Big Blue! They pounded an underrated Weber St. team last week. Trap game!!!
