About The Running Backs

When I spoke to an NFL scout he did not let USC’s running backs off the hook.

“They run too upright and don’t fall forward on contact,” he said. “They look to bounce and don’t hit the hole full speed.”

  1. Running from the shotgun, TB’s aren’t going to hit the hole at full speed, especially if the hole isn’t there. This scouting report is Pure Bull, SW.

    • Exactly, As many “games” as he has seen, he is not an expert in evaluating talent. Its a slow news day, hey but at least we HRC and her twin doping the democrats.. A basket full of dummies! Lol

  2. The offense that USC and a few other Pac 12 schools run, don’t prepare the running backs, or quarterbacks for the nfl, according to many scouts. Jared Goff from Cal is a perfect example, because he is so far behind the learning curve, that the Rams had to put him on the inactive list. And according to some of Goffs coaches, he has never taken a snap under center, or call an offensive play in the huddle. But there are a few exceptions to the observations, such as Winston, and Mariota to name a few.

    • Wentz shined yesterday – Goffs is a typical ‘lambs’ play – an indifferent wealth and conniving owner, a GM that looks like an extra for ‘Baywatch’ and a head coach about as talented as Ray Malavasi – same old LA Lambs except this time they ransacked Saint Louis on their way ‘back home’.

Go Frisco! Go Oakland! Go Seattle!

  3. I’m not sure SC will beat Stanford. I probably wouldn’t pick them. I just don’t have that much confidence in this coaching staff right now. Maybe I will in the future. But I still think that SC is in a good position right now. One of two things will happen: 1) Clay Helton turns out to be an outstanding coach and SC starts challenging for a national championship again or 2) He gets fired and this time they go out and spend big bucks to bring in a proven winner. If they fired Helton and then went out and hired another assistant coach or another 34-29 head coach, the fans and boosters and alumni would be outraged and there would be hell to pay. So I see only 2 possibilities and both of them are good. Alabama, Michigan, Nortre Dame and others went through the same process before they finally came to their senses and decided to pay the money to bring in a proven winner. It’s really a good business decision to pay the money(and SC has the money). Whatever you pay for the coach you always get it back and more from the financially benefits of being a football power.

    • A lot of truth there ‘but’ Brian Kelly is not in the same league as Sabin or Harbaugh by a long shot. Also ‘The Princess’ has a rigged con not having to play a ‘CCG’ but somehow is permitted to be considered for a ‘slot’ year in year out.

They play MI St. at home this week and their only other tough home game is Stanford which may not look that tough after this Saturday and next.

Understand ‘The Princess’ blew a boat load of money when they hired Weis.

        • True but there’s also a lot of the same that loath the historic con job – tales there be of the ‘Irish’ suiting up coal miners back in the teens on game day.

As long as they have to eat another year of mediocrity – everyone wins.

          • I’m not a big ND fan but I see a lot of cupcakes(at least 6) on that schedule. I hope they’re mediocre but with that schedule….who knows.

  4. The scout is right about the RBs espicially Justin Davis. That’s why he is always taking those hits that are loud and have him bending backwards for a second. He needs to lower his lean (or really get a lean) and get behind his pads. I noticed this issue with JD when I first saw him run and it hasn’t changed. Rojo is only a little bit better with it.

  5. I read someone on another blog mention a scout from the NFL.
Here is what he wrote……..Here is the paste…

So I sat next to a Tampa Bay Bucs scout who was on the SC sideline most of the game. Below is what he (the scout said he saw in the game).

#1 He said many times and even told his boss on the phone that USC looked scared before the game. He said you could see it on their faces in the tunnel.

#2 He said that the Bama secondary put on a clinic. Said they were in Double Star coverage on Juju 90% of the time and that out Oline actually did a good job of pass blocking. The problem was Max was forced to hold the ball too long as none of of recievers besides Juju could beat press coverage. He said this many times. Said if USC had even 1 other WR that could beat press coverage it would have been a complete different game.

#3 Said our Oline could not run block at all ant the backs looked to bounce and would not hit the hole full speed. Said this is because they seemed scared.

    4. He told me he was there to scout juju specifically. He said Juju actually did a great job of getting off the line but with the double star coverage our coaches should have changed up game plan a little to force Bama to move the extra man off Juju so Browne would have a 1 on 1 match up with Juju.

    5. Said our D played with heart but no discipline as they were always out of position. Said this could have been a combination of poor coaching and fatigue. Which brings me to #6.

    6. Said it was easy to tell we still had no depth. Said our starters on D had the talent we just did not have enough capable backups.

    7. Said with the exception of #35 no one knew how to tackle on D. He did say Adore did a good job on Ridley but unlike Helton, Kiffin just decided to take advantage of the other corners and not even bother with going at Adore.

He said some other stuff that has already been posted about. The last thing he told me really strikes a chord for a possible QB change.

    8. The scout said every time Darnold was in the game Clay Helton called the plays himself and not Tee Martin. The scout thought this was a very bad idea. Said it seemed like Helton did not trust Tee and that Helton liked Darnold more that Browne. Told me he has been a NFL scout 12 years and never before seen 2 different play callers for 2 different QB’s. He though Clay should call all the plays or call plays in certain situations but not for a specific situation. Said that is something he will look foward to seeing as he will also be at the USC/Stanford game.
