Quick Trigger

Did you see the Buffalo Bills fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman after just two games? And he didn’t even lose to Alabama, 52-6.

  1. He worked with John Harbaugh for the Ravens in 2006-2007. Then in 2008 was an Offensive Coordinator for a High School. In 2009 guess who hired him? John Harbaugh’s brother Jim at Stanford who then took him with him to the 49ers. Anyone wanna bet he ends up at Michigan in a Alabama/Sark Like position?

  2. If USC had a remote clue, Roman would be signed quickly in some Sark-like capacity (and a promise of an OC title next season), with the Bills paying his salary, assuming he’s remotely interested. This is undoubtedly way too much to ask of USC’s feeble brain trust.

      • No. That’s why I said, “if he’s remotely interested.”

But Roman is a highly respected coach. He could waste a year at SC, stay busy in the game at a huge school, and end up in another job after the season, whereas right now, I wouldn’t imagine many openings exist, unless ucla wants him to take over for Cheater Klemm. It turns out Klemm, the major bruin recruiter, didn’t even know when LOI Day was. Hah.

        • Jack B. i trust you will be rooting for the Trojans tomorrow ? We defeat Stanford, which I believe is 40-60, our Trojans will be the CENTER PIECE OF THE PAC-12. A victory tomorrow baring injuries would be something very special. BEAT THE TRIBE !!!

          • I’ll be with Stanford people, a true wine-and-cheese group if there ever was one. They don’t get too riled up about their team (never do) and I think have been surprised by their recent success since Carroll left. But they’ve gotten used to it, much like we used to be against them.

Most didn’t know what to expect from Shaw originally, but they do now – a mentally and physically tough team that doesn’t beat itself and never gives up.

I hope Gomer pulls off the upset. We’ve got the talent and I don’t think Stanford’s o-line is what its been lately. I don’t remember the last time a USC team beat a top 10 outfit, but it would be quite a victory!

          • You’re right I believe. College GameDay was at the USC campus that weekend and USC fans stormed the field after Heidari’s 47 yder with 19 secs won it 20-17. Stanford was #5 and USC had already lost three games.

If Orgeron hadn’t gotten obliterated by ucla two weeks later, who knows what would have happened?

    • Exactly, Jack….on point ! And what most don’t know about Roman, is that he was Jim Harbaughs offensive coordinator at Stanford, not David Shaw. And he was also Harbaughs OC for the 49ers, too. He’s obviously a run first coach, and his system requires physical play. But we all know, that Clay Helton is too insecure to bring that type of coach in .

  3. An OFFENSIVE coordinator would not be to blamed for a 52-6 loss. That would weigh more heavily on the D coordinator. Sure, scoring only 6 is bad, but giving up 52 is much worse.

    • Multiple 3 and outs would eventually weigh heavily on a defense that has depth and experience issues.

    • USC had more three-and-outs than a blind batter. Defense had to be on field constantly, got tired after first 20 minutes and knew our offense was worthless against the heavy-handed tide.

        • In fairness to Ryan – when he was w. the NYJ they had an awful GM (Tannahill) – that stunt hiring Tebow. But if this blows up then yeah it’s on Ryan all the way –

BTW Ryan did get the Jets’ to back-to-back AFC CG – only other NYJ head coach to do that was Weeb Eubank and I can tell you there are 25+ teams to never have done that in the AFC.

  4. I wanted Pat Haden to interview Greg Roman last season, but I guess it made too much sense. Haden rather give it to a fake , figure head offensive coordinator, that knows nothing about physical football. Roman was the architect of Jim Harbaughs Stanford, and 49ers run dominated, teams.

    • I’ll be happy when we USC fans move on from the Haden football hiring disasters. If we lose to Stanford, I’m beginning to think that will never happen!

      • When all of his residue is gone, he’ll be an afterthought, and Clay Helton’s presence says, Pat Haden.

  5. it was one of the all-time fun things to witness. The little gutties were totally helpless and humiliated in their new white unis. As reported in the papers, the bruins had become more concerned with Gap than the gap.

I admit feeling a little sad for Neuheisel, who was fired soon thereafter, his team in total meltdown. Barkley had completed 35 throws on the little gutties, who had no answers and let Lee and Woods run wild.

IMHO, Guerrero undermined Neuheisel in various ways during his tenure.
