Is USC Like Michigan?

USC special teams coach John Baxter was at Michigan last season. He said this week the Trojans resemble the Wolverines, who went 10-3 last season.

“I felt like this is the kind of team we had at Michigan last year,” Baxter said. “We lost to Utah and got better and better and better every week.”

USC is 1-2, so they would need to go 9-1 the rest of the regular season. Or maybe he meant USC would lose to Utah too.

  2. Does he feel the team has improved? It remains to be seen if Darnold starting will provide a spark or if any other changes to scheme will be made before facing Utah, but through 3 games I would not say USC has been getting “better and better”

    • FToV, once again bozo u has no chance. The game won’t be as ugly as the Alabama game, but will be as ugly as the Stanford game.

      bozo u is putting mega pressure on a rookie QB to rescue the bozo u FB program. Not fair to Darnold.

      Utah isn’t a cupcake, and they will have a week to prepare to confuse Darnold. It won’t be hard, since Darnold has never played against Utah’s sophisticated defense or in the extremely noisy, hostile Utah stadium.

      The kid doesn’t deserve this amount of pressure caused entirely by BOZO U mismanagement.

  3. Jim Harbaugh vs. Clay Helton. Who do you choose to lead your program? Baxter is getting more and more delusional by the day.

    • This could make for a great 30-30 Espn special. The pros vs the waterboys. You may as well call Clay Helton “DAN”. As in “DAYS ARE NUMBERED”.

  4. To recap: Helton wants USC to be like Stanford. Baxter wants USC to be like Michigan. Does Tee Martin want USC to be like Lane Kiffin and Alabama?

    • Tee Martin, who got his degree is sports management ( whatever that is ) from the U.S. Sports Academy through Tennessee ( ??? ) and scored an 11 on his Wunderlich test at the NFL combine, is just happy to have paycheck at this point in his life and not an EBT card.

    • Maybe USC should invest in a Tennessee helmet and give to Tee to wear in the pressbox while he calls plays from the booth. (jkg) Martin needs to be standing on the sidelines friday steering the ship and kids. He is not ready for the booth and alone calling plays even with Helton jr by his side.

        Why not, the worst thing possible would be to lose but the Trojans are already losing anyway ?

        • The OC needs to be on the sideline with a big denny’s menu in front of his face. But actually he needs constant communication with his unit. It only get relayed from the booth.

  5. There is a difference helton unproven as a leader, Harbaugh proven leader that turned around two college programs and one nfl team.

  7. The head coach lies, the OC is clueless, this clown spews this out, 2 ex- players are looking at jail time ( well one at least , for now ) and one just left and more are probably soon to follow ? What a disaster.

  11. John Baxter is just feeding a bunch of nonsense to the misinformed, and hopeful, fan. Last year’s Michigan team had offensive linemen firing off the ball, and a defensive that got after you. Clay Helton’s team doesn’t do anything like that. Helton and his staff don’t teach physical football, they just talk about it. This USC team doesn’t have an identity, they don’t run the football very well, and JuJu is their passing, game. So whatever Baxter is trying to convince himself of, I’m Not Buying It!!

  16. I do think that we are getting better. I just don’t think that we are good enough to beat Utah. I think that we will play well and lose by a small amount. CH’s biggest problem is to hold this team together. He’s in danger of losing this team and a whole lot of players transferring and recruits de-committing in the process. If he can hold this team together, I can see them being pretty good in the 2nd half of the season. A lot of the players are dis-illusioned right about now but all it takes is one really good win to change that. They hired an on the job trainee. Why should we be surprised that he is learning on the job? I still don’t blame CH. I blame the administration that hired him. I’m sure that he is probably sleeping on his couch in his office every night and not seeing his family much, banging his head against the wall trying to right this ship. But he’s in over his head. SC football is not a job for trainees.
