Petros Papadakis went off on USC during his show Wednesday, starting with the incident involving offensive tackle E.J. Price and a football staff member. He was incredulous that a secretary is even around the team at a road game.
“How and why a uniformed player has a disagreement between the sideline and locker room with an administrative assistant from the football office is beyond the pale for me. I’ve never heard of anything like that. I’ve never seen anything like that.”
He also turned his sights on Clay Helton and the administration.
“Clay Helton has been reading off prepared index cards at his media sessions. Why not get Clay a teleprompter. USC’s administration is becoming creepy and meddlesome in many affairs where they have never been before.”

Some people like to hear themselves talk, PP is a loud mouth punk, but he is spot on about what is going at USC. Someone I was chatting with on here yesterday is right, USC is a mess, no identity and a lost culture. Can’t blame Lynn Swann, but the entire admin needs to focus on everything USC not wishing to be Harvard of the West and get the right pieces in place to turn things around. Friday night with away game tickets being sold through brokers is an indication the fanbase is losing interest in the football team. That can not happen!
The Board of Trustees and Nikias could care less about football. They can get millions from rich dad’s of kids they admit and the companies they beg from. Didn’t USC just go over the 6 BILLION mark in fundraising ? How good was the football team in recent years ? They don’t need a strong football program to get money, they are selling academics these days and it seems to be doing quite well for them.
How dare a University sell academics? Some day they might even write it into the charter of the institution.

The odds makers think SC will lose tomorrow; but, still, even with a loss the team could still qualify for the Pac-12 championship if it wins out.
In the meantime, the school with inherent recruiting advantages because of location, tradition, resources, weather, talent access, superior NFL and college pedigree, amazing rivalries, brand recog … you name it … is stuck with two miserable losses, one a historical laydown against what a real prepared college team looks like. It didn’t have to be this way if Cue Card Gomer had his team prepared.
USC doesn’t even have 1 single AP or Coaches vote for either poll. That’s entirely on Gomer and his substandard, backyard operation.
So unless Gomer can get a brain transplant within hours, we’ll be winning any future games against mid-level opponents because we are SC, not because of Gomer.
Right now USC is again playing with its hand tied behind its back – only this time the NCAA has nothing to do with it.

On TOS, there is a very detailed post about the methodology that Tom Herman learned from Urban Meyer during his three years coaching for him at Ohio State. Reading that post, it is no wonder that Herman has done so well so fast, as compared to Helton, who has apprenticed under the likes of Kiffin and Sark. Swann needs to do what Mal Moore did at Bama when he landed Saban; fly to Houston and not leave until he has Herman signed, sealed, and delivered.

Agreed, except I believe STAN is pretty good, at least a top 10 team. They are the type of team that gets better too, because of their coaching and recent success.
Gomer wants to be like STAN and he proclaimed his desire publicly. This is what makes me think the cue card accusation by Petros might be a total lie. I doubt Tessalone or Swann told Gomer to say that we aspire to be like STAN.
If Gomer had a clue, SC could have beaten Stanford. Stanford may get better this season, but they are far from a top team.

I wonder if Clay Helton and Jeff Fisher have any sort of relationship. I’m not suggesting Fisher take on any formal role while he’s coaching the Rams or in the future. I don’t know how you’d do it quietly or gracefully, but I wonder if Fisher would ever walk over and offer to help where and if he can. It sure feels like there’s an “all hands on deck” urgency to the situation. Just a thought.

I’m a big fan of the show, but it would be nice if Matt would stop innterrupting Petros when he’s talking. How many times did he cut him off with some silly joke while he was trying to get his point across, on the USC situation?
Petros is right about one thing….they could have had Peterson. The problem is the administration. I’m almost to the point where I would rather have them hang on to CH. Give him 5 years and see if he can learn on the job. They hired an on the job trainee. Lets see if he can learn on the job. They could always fire him but with this administration, they’ll just go out and get someone just like him and this coaching merry-go-round will continue.
Swann’s the key difference. He’s not cut from Haden’s or Nikias’ cloth, no matter what you hear. Neither Haden nor Nikias emphasized football. Nikias doesn’t remotely know or appreciate the game and Haden felt women’s sports at USC were more deserving of his attention.
Swann knows what butters USC’s bread. Whether he picks the next USC superstar coach, I can’t guarantee. But the man will be very well-qualified based on his previous success and established rep.
I like the fact that he is there at practice most of the time. I didn’t see that with Haden. It sort of sends the message to CH that “I didn’t hire you and I’m not crazy about the direction of this football program”. It also sends the message that “I consider this football program to be the main athletic program at USC and not womens beach volleyball”(as you mentioned).
I agree and feel that he has made it known to Gomer that things need to change, and change big. You’d think Gomer would know that on his own, but he was always just a journeyman asst who suddenly hit the motherload because Sark went off the deep end and Haden couldn’t be troubled to fix the wrong he started all on his own. So Nikias moved into the vacuum with the help of the BOTs and put USC in this horrible position.
I agree. I think that SC fans need to go on these forums and also social media and scream about the direction of this football program. And don’t just mention PH’s name. He’s gone. He doesn’t care what you say about him. I think Max Nikias and the BOT’s names have to keep coming up(particularly Max) until he starts to feel like if he doesn’t do something, he’ll be afraid to show his face on campus. Max and the BOT’s are hiding behind PH. He’s taking all the cannon fodder when most of it should be aimed at them.
