Do you have a good feel for this game? I don’t. USC has so many distractions and attacks on its confidence that it could be a really difficult game. But USC is the more talented team and at some point it will play like it is expected. Is this the game?
I’m just interested to see how Sam Darnold plays for four quarters. He won’t have to look over his shoulder like Max Browne did during his three-game reign. And remember Clay Helton said he didn’t want a quarterback to look over their shoulder, except for Browne of course.
Maybe USC just needs to avoid giving up touchdowns to start the game at Rice-Eccles Stadium (above).

We’re stuck with USC’s coaches all year. Will be lucky if changes are made for 2017. Helton will probably be back for 2017 unless he completely collapses, but Swann will force some asst changes regardless.
Who is going to want to work for Gomer knowing that in 1 year, he’ll be looking for work again ? SC is sooo screwed unless they can Gomer this year.
I am soooo leary of the offense to put up any points. At best I see USC lucky to score 17. If the D has improved maybe SC squeaks by 17-14 but if the O keeps the D on the field and our lack of depth fades, then Utah wins 30-17.
Whatever it takes to keep Helton at USC. At least that is what all the fans of other Pac 12 teams are hoping for. Just want to see the circus continue.
Not exactly what Helton stated…he thought 2nd q/b should get snaps in games and time due to possible injury …which I agree with…Max can get back ,he just needs to excel better on those long TD’s he overthrew…he does not appear confident,and remember he sat behind Kessler for a reason.
Darnold and Jackson give USC a big lift despite USC’s crappy o-line and USC wins on big plays 35-21. Utah’s O is nothing to write home about. Pendergast and Baxter come back from a humiliating game and boost USC’s confidence with much stronger efforts from the defense and special teams (at least one TD).
USC has better talent, Utah has better coaching. The game is on the road where it will be loud, wet and cold.
USC’s talent will give it 2-3 really good games this year. We just never know when that will show itself and I’m betting the players are ready to react big to all the negativity surrounding them. If we weren’t going to start Darnold and play Jackson on offense, I’d say we’d lose 35-21 instead of win.

Read where Utah’s artificial turf drains well. A scrambling QB will be advantageous for both teams. Which ever team can throw in the rain will win. Turnovers huge. I believe that Sam Darnold is a winner. He is a very good athlete. I know that you can’t pin this start on Browne, but I think Darnold is the best option. I just have a gut feeling that things will start to come together. The running game improved, and the team will rally together. I hope the weather doesn’t affect us.

Not only is it hard to have a good feel for this game, it’s been hard to have a good feel for this team since before the year started. Who really knows what the team is going to do? At this point, I think all the faithful are just girding against a total collapse. Any score in this storm will do as long as we’re on the long end of it. Batten down the hatches.
48 – 14 USC. The team is extremely talented, and the staff knows this is must win, while Utah is mediocre this year and not very talented. I just can’t see blown coverage, 8 men on the field, and all the rest of that nonsense tonight no matter how bad it may get later in the season. Tonight I expect a flawless, gutsy performance, and a staff that for a night is scared straight.
Timmay – I hope that you are right, but I dont see how a team with an average of 323 yards per game of total offense, and among the worst statistics in terms of yards per rush, and yards per pass, scores that much. But I do hope that you are right.
You actually think our OL is talented? Agree with much of your take but our problems all start with the OL, and we just aren’t any good there from what I’ve seen. How do they suddenly learn how to block?
Hope Jack. It’s hope. AS for the OL, it is indeed talented. The same 4/5 star players we signed Alabama and the top ten programs recruited. But they signed with us, where talent goes to die. They didn’t stop being talented, they just stopped learning, and stopped playing correctly, and played under a scheme with stinks. Remember the 90s when we used to lose but our players kept getting drafted and became successful pros? It would be that all over again, except I think the NFL has become a little soured on kids who they have to spend more time developing.

I don’t have a feel for this game at all, because I don’t know what type of players Utah has. But I know the Trojans beat them on pure talent last season, and there’s a chance they can do it again. The Utes have better coaching across the board, without a doubt , and they are playing at home, so a victory for them would not surprise me, at all.
Win or lose, I’d love to see some promises from Darnold, as I believe the first game as the starting QB is always a very crucial sign of what’s to come afterwards.
I would expect Darnold to throw at least one pic, basically due to the pressure and inexperience on his part. Other than that the run game can work on Utah and perhaps Darnold can make some things happen. If he throws to AJ then the pressure will come off of JuJu and then the field is open and he can look to throw to the tight end. Of course it is all up to the line play. Our defense should stifle the Utah offense well. USC 31 Utah 17

Be careful. Be very careful. In case you forgot UCLA plays Stanford tomorrow. Be careful I say.
The Utes will come out fired up at home. And, I have never seen a team fold as easily as USC does after a big play, though against two superior teams. That is a bad combo. Despite the score, the Stanford loss was much worse than the Alabama loss. It could get ugly early.
But, despite two turnovers, Darnold is the real deal and won’t let the team give up early, then a special teams TD or turnover will shift momentum and USC will run away with it at the end 42-23.
