  1. Unfortunately for Ed Orgeron, LSU has a horrible offense, with no quarterback. And that’s always been Les Miles , and Cam Cameron’s problem. So hopefully, Orgeron will take advantage of the best running back in college football.

      • USC has more $$$ than LSU. Swann just needs to go to Houston and not come back to LA until Herman is signed, sealed and delivered!

        • SC has more money for sure but the athletic dept doesn’t, and the general fund (raised by Nikias) doesn’t contribute to USC Athletics, which has to be self-supporting. That’s university policy.

LSU football makes a lot more than USC football and while their boosters may not be richer, they’ll pay for anything, anytime. USC’s wine and cheese crowd isn’t nearly so committed, which is why we have Gomer. You ever think LSU would have hired Gomer? Never!

If LSU wants Herman, they’ll get him. They are lot more committed to football than USC is and the SEC is more attractive to coaches.

USC won’t get Herman because we aren’t committed to a great football program anymore. If we were, you think we’d have Yuk Yuk Gomer? Of course not.

          • Well you were right when Haden was running things but I’m not so sure that the ‘brie and quiche’ crowd are still in control – it would seem the tide is shifting (hopefully) to act as the other majors do – spend the money and right the ship.

          • The question is…better position than LSU? They’d print money and probably receive a state grant if it would help the Tigers.

          • USC has one of the largest in the nation, over $350 million, not quite Stanford who is number one at $500 million but LSU Athletics Foundation was about to declare bankruptcy last year… Jesus people, facts, not the films about imaginary rich Bubba whose dadgum crazy ’bout footsballs.

      • They will empty the vault for Herman. Shaw’s wife loves Stanford, he isn’t going anywhere. If I was Swann, I would make a run for Miles, with one caveat, Norm Chow or as O.C.

        • I understand. I still think he’ll jump if a big enough fish jumps with $$$$ in his boat. Hope he stays though. Greed and power usually trump loyalty and gratitude, however.

    • You have to understand, Why would Herman want to come to USC and figure out this mess. Also, he doesn’t “know USC”.

      • Houston was in worse shape!
        Houston has no prestige!
Houston is a “next step” job!
Houston may get snubbed again for a playoff spot!
Herman coming to USC would mean instant 5⭐️ recruits lining up to play for him—like during the Carroll years!

        • Houston has mucho Earl $$$$$. What are the chances the Houston would allow bozo u to steal his HFBC – ZERO.

  2. The real question is, will Ed break out the all-important happy cookies for his OLs? Could this be the seed for LSU’s breakout from offensive purgatory?

The next question is, will Ed bust up the LSU football offices if he’s not named permanent coach? Or, if overlooked again for the HC job, will he turn down a million-plus dollars a year to remain as an asst or a DC?

    • Ed tried his hardest to recruit Leonard Fournette to SC. He was never gonna be a Trojan, but he was on his way for an Official until Ed Orgeron left or quit. I’m sure Ed Orgeron has plans. But once again LSU has no QB. That was Miles downfall.

      • LSU will never make Ed their HC. Then, what will some SC fans say? Bring back Ed probably!

Should be very interesting. More drama for the USC program – even when we aren’t looking for it, it’s always threatening.

          • There’s many reasons Ed didn’t get the USC job, yet many still feel he would have been a successful HC here and are very vocal about it.

I wonder when he gets passed over again at LSU if there will be the same contingent that can’t believe he was overlooked for permanent HC?

          • I’m sure he’s loved at LSU, but I was ok with Ed not being the SC head coach. The losses to Notre Dame and UCLA made my mind for me. But I would’ve taken Ed O over Helton, even before Helton got his butt handed to him in September. Ed Orgeron deserved it over Helton.

          • Would you stay if you were demoted as manager of your Little League team and they promoted a drunk parent that didn’t know up from down?

          • Tough situation, but again those players counted on him. I personally wouldn’t have walked on the “kids”. It doesn’t matter because Ed couldn’t coach at Ole Miss and lost to his two rivals. That’s enough for me to say thanks but no thanks.

          • I know. Great guy to have on your staff. Just not a head coach. I could see him at Fresno St or Utah St.

          • A real mystery is if Memphis really wanted Gomer and if he was really able to use that as leverage against USC. It was reported but who knows?

          • I personally think Memphis probably wanted Helton. But how he used that as leverage over USC is still comical. Haden and Nikias sure lost it with this one.

          • Imagine, the A.D. at a school like USC getting played by a career assistant coach like Helton. Capper, you’re just not that bright when it comes to running an athletic department.

          • That hire by Haden stank of indolence and indifference i.e.

“Well Sarkisian screwed this opportunity I stuck MY neck out for – I’m out of here anyway – whose left we can promote internally? Helton? Yeah what the heck – JK make the offer I’m going to the quarterly Mayr Foundation meeting down at the California Club. Man I sure wish this whole year was different.”

          • I’m telling you, Gomer was not Haden’s idea. It was a Nikias/BOT cook-up for stupid reasons. Haden couldn’t have stopped it if he wanted to.

          • Seriously? Well it looks like even Nikias is beginning to realize, prior to the Mayr scandal, Haden’s skill set per football was a mess. No idea Nikias had a hand in it – good then the outcome of this season rolls his way.

          • True. But as much a like Ed O he quit on his players and let his emotions get the best of him ultimately hurting his chances of ever being part of USC.

          • Damn you both for ganging up on me. Just kidding. I’m sorry, I love Ed O. He’s a Trojan Hall of Famers, but he’s not Head Coaching material. That’s just my honest opinion.

          • No hard feelings sas. The fans have always been split on this but I think if you look back now and see how badly things have degenerated for SC Football since Ed was snubbed 3 years ago you have to admit Haden goofed.

          • I know Ed well. Great guy. Great asst and recruiter. Not a good HC for SC or any other huge program. Many reasons for this if you know him or others that do in a professional context.

          • Thank you. I love his personality and how he gets in players faces, but he’s not a head coach for a big time program.

          • JustOwns, you have got the goods. Smart blog and dead on !!! They became a damn good team under Coach O’s supervision.

        • How about this. Somehow, someway, Coach O gets the SC job. He brings back Chow and Tim Davis. Says adios to Martin and Nansen, and hires a kick a** staff. That would be intriguing.

          • Coach O will never be back at USC. Ever. He burned that bridge big-time when he didn’t have to. Lost his cool more than once and has other issues some at USC simply won’t take on. Not saying that’s good, because I like the guy. But that’s the way it is, and it’s deep.

Chow’s way over the hill. Many younger, better, more focused and innovative OCs out there now. Davis never stays anywhere long. Something wrong there.

        • Jack B, Let me insert “You don’t have a damn clue if Coach O is hired full time or not.” Stuck on a Hate.

    • ucla should go after Miles. He’d have a better chance at winning big games than The Chimp. And the Chimp even got slaughtered by last year’s horrible USC team. Miles would have probably won that for the little gutties, with their all-world QB.

  3. Congratulations to Coach Oregon. It is gratifying to know that at least one major university football program recognizes ability, promise and experience in an assistant football coach.

      • And kept a disintegrating team together after Kiffin was fired on the tarmac and beat #5 Stanford. I bet you were one of the 90,000 that ran on the field that night.

        • I actually watched it on TV. But a friend of mine did and was right behind Lindsey Thiry on the field heckling her while she interviewed Trojans. He’s a colorful dude.

        • Coach O saved the sinking ship that was bozo u FB. But “St Pat” felt Sark was a better fit.

          • Ed stopped the booze many, many years ago. To the best of my knowledge, he never got back on the sauce. Maybe you know better.

          • Ya, Pat and Ed were about as different as you could be, socially speaking.

Personally, I don’t believe rumors about Haden’s drinking. I’ve got a lot of reasons for that and seriously doubt it. You have anything concrete on that, outside of Internet gibberish?

      • SC lost to UCLA that year because the walking brain donor, known as The Capper, told the team and Coach O he was not getting the job, along with losing two offensive lineman in one series in the second quarter. Basically, The Capper sabotaged his own school so he could be free and clear and hire Cutty Sark.

        • All I know is he’s didn’t coach like a deserving head coach in the rivalry games. Game, set, match. Who’s next. I didn’t want Sark, but I wasn’t sold on Ed O. Now today I would take him over Helton, but the situations are completely different. We are bleeding from self inflicted wounds.

          • Ed had less than two weeks to take over the fractured and demorialized team, beat Arizona and prepare to play ND on the road.

          • I remember thinking the team wouldn’t qualify for a bowl after the 62-41 blow out loss at ASU. Instead after a tough 4 point loss at South Bend he took a sophomore quarterback on a five game winning streak.

          • He (Ed Orgeron) didn’t and, nothing against Ed, bnut the saddest person that heard he was not being retained was Mora just as Mora will feel when Helton gets tossed.

            Regardless good for Ed..

          • Coach O and ajll of his assistance were THE ONLY CHOICE for PH, considering Coach O’s Team’s Remarkable Momentum coming off the Stanford victory and the total destruction of Colorado on the road. Sam Bam, Alvarado, who do you think PH should have hired instead of Sark ? Be real.

          • Hater?
So we should’ve hires a guy who lost every important game at Ole Miss and loss to Notre Dame and UCLA (blowout) ????

Stop now and we can still be friends.

        • Stop it.
Come up with a better comeback. I love all my uncles, but I wouldn’t want them all to raise me.

    • He’s interim head coach, not head coach. So pretty much the same deal as his SC job. So when Kiffin becomes HC of LSU, Ed O will bolt to Alabama.

  4. Could Lane Kiffin be the next Head Coach at LSU? Hollywood wouldn’t believe you if it came true.

  5. It will be interesting see who LSU hires. Their A.D. is a complete knucklehead. He presided over the sham that was the Duke LAX fiasco.

  6. LSU has already connected with reps of Briles and Herman. Coach is a stop gap. He will not be a HC again!

  7. Miami Marlins superstar pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident. That’s a heart breaker.

  8. Les won’t be unemployed long once the season ends, that is unless no opening interests him and takes a break and do TV for a season.

  9. Wow…that guy delivered for LSU for a long time…if they ever got a real top notch q/b consistently Alabama would have been 2nd fiddle…”o’ steps into BIG shoes, and wish him the very best. What will Miles next act be…win a lot of games for somebody else…

  10. Dodger’s clinch the West Div. title on a walk off homer on Vinnie’s last home game broadcast. Doesn’t it get any better than that?

  11. Congratulations to Coach O. He has a number of very positive attributes. He may be best suited as a high level assistant coach, but I hope that he succeeds.

  12. I don’t know how well he will do but if they give him some time, he will probably become an outstanding coach. That’s another one that PH passed over just to hire another assistant a couple of years later who didn’t have nearly as good as a resume. When I try and figure out PH’s actions I am dumfounded yet the amazing thing is that if he hadn’t decided to retire, he’d still be the AD. I guess you just can’t fire an academic nowadays no matter how incompetent they are. It’s a life long position.

  13. This is great news. CEO will inspire lsu to play better and still not be considered for the head job. he’ll either quit or not be retained by the new coach and find his way back to SC maybe?

  14. Where is les miles and why has his hiring not been done “yesterday:
These chances come rarely. But knowing and being long time FAN Of USC probably will keep helton and bad recruiting and player defections. Unless they feel les miles can and I believe would at least lift embarrasment Swann is new the ad… and also a trojan himself so do it and start new age. Please hire now and stop bad karma. Usc is not mediocre. Period!
