Not in football, of course. But in a Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education survey of 1,000 college and universities. Maybe one day football will be ranked so high.
Full release from USC after the jump:
In new comprehensive Wall Street Journal survey, USC ranks #15 nationally
USC ranks #15 nationally in the inaugural Wall Street Journal/ Times Higher Education survey of more than 1,000 U.S. colleges and universities released this week. In the Pac-12, only USC and Stanford rank in the top 25 nationally, with UCLA placing 26th and UC Berkeley at 37. Among the 150 universities surveyed in the western U.S., USC ranks #3.
The new ranking uses a set of comprehensive metrics to determine whether a college offers students sufficient resources to succeed, whether students feel challenged and engaged, whether the student body is diverse and international and whether graduates succeed by paying off their loans and are able to find satisfying, high paying jobs.
The #15 national ranking marks USC’s highest placement to date in major higher education rankings.
USC also ranks second among the top-25 national universities in the area of Environment, which measures the diversity of both the students and faculty. USC’s ranking in this area was boosted in part by the high proportion of Pell Grant-eligible and first generation students in its undergraduate student body.
“Throughout USC’s academic ascent, we have always prioritized maintaining a student body that is representative of the country and the world at large. So over and above our impressive national ranking, the Trojan Family should take great pride in our diversity scores, which prove once and for all that academic excellence and inclusion are not mutually exclusive priorities,” said USC president C. L. Max Nikias.
Other areas where USC showed strength was in the area of outcomes, where USC students reported graduation rates, salaries, and their ability to repay loans in the highest percentile nationally.
Added Nikias, “I am also thrilled to see, based on student surveys, how well our students perform after they graduate. There is no doubt that our Trojan graduates chart a path to success in parallel with graduates from our peer universities, which are the very top institutions in the country.”
Data from this survey was collected from a variety of public data sources as well as from a comprehensive student survey carried out by Times Higher Education in London. The rankings will be released and updated on an annual basis going forward.
This is why the BOT and The Greek could care less about football. Ranked top 15 in the nation for academics, the money rolls in whether football is good or not.
Not so fast. Football is big prestige. People don’t wear USC shirts because of academics. Football creates pride and then the money flows in. Sure the arts draw their own, but the mainstream grads look to see how their team is doing.
You got that right.
A college professor once told me a long time ago…never trust anyone who uses initials in front of their first name.
Like Dr or Coach ? Lol
Coach is not an initial nor is dr. Dr is an abbreviation.
Don’t you dare correct our multimillionaire playboy lawyer/real estate tycoon again!!

Cool. SC’s doing very well in the world.
But our once formidable football team is facing yet another crisis because we hitched our wagon to another learning-on-the-job candidate who is just now discovering that he didn’t know nearly as much as he thought he did.
Blow off the recent dismal failures and fix this sucker before we sink any lower. Things can always get worse and they will, especially with the recruits, if we allow our football program to continue to play like a mid-major amidst dwindling L.A. fan support. That will be the next stage, as we all learned when Hackett dragged the program down.
The only thing we’ve done well recently is cut loose the Kiffer and the Drunk w/o wasting too much time. The Kiffer’s success at amazing ALA doesn’t mean he was ever going to right the ship at USC. Gomer isn’t going to right this ship either. Let’s get the Trojans back in the hands of s big boy and ditch this slump we’re in.
Did anyone see Kiffin and Sark get ripped by Tosh.0 for the 2nd time last night? I recommend you watch it. On demand. It’s funny as hell!
Or Cal? Isn’t Cal the #1 public university in most surveys?
I’ve heard that.
Well the mighty have fallen. Great news for SC!
I will take this high ranking of SC as an academic college over any football ratings all day long.
SC No. 15; SUCLA No. 26.
We are–SC!
