Is this code language to bet on Sparky?
One positive out of this soupy water is that Helton is undefeated at home – hope he wins this one or the heat will be unbearable, and this undefeated ASU team definitely ain’t no gimmie!
It doesn’t matter if SC loses. You know what J.K. McKay said. Nobody is interested in the SC job.
The pressures on not only Clay Helton, but Lynn Swann. Just got off the phone a couple of hours ago discussing the tailgating plans for saturday with my buddy and he told me that he read in the peristyle chat room that former USC players have made it clear to Clay Helton that they are not supporting him and his staff. Helton said of that news “well we can concentrate without them being a distraction”. Lynn Swann was rumored to be approached by a former player saying that he spoke with others and that they are in favor of a new head coach. I personally think that player is Keyshawn Johnson since he was on twitter bashing USC/Helton after the Utah game. But the posse seems to be ready to hunt down Helton now. The ASU game is a “MUST WIN”.
I was just being sarcastic when I said nobody is interested in the SC job. USA Today did their own study on which schools are the most desirable jobs for football coaches. SC was #3 in the country. Texas was number 2. Sporting News did a similar study and SC was #3 in that study too. Texas was actually #1 in the Sporting News study. Some people say, “how could Texas be so high”. I think that both of the studies really are accurate. Both Texas and SC are desirable schools for football coaches because they both have great tradition. They are sitting right on top of a recruiting wonderland. They both have good weather(SC has great weather). But most of all, both schools have had trouble winning lately. If Nick Saban left tomorrow, Alabama wouldn’t be the greatest job in the world. It would be like replacing Vince Lombardi at Green Bay or Johnny Wooden at UCLA. The fans would be expecting a national championship every year. The pressure would be unreal. But SC and Texas are not like that. A great coach knows he could come in and win 9 or 10 games the first year(which is not an impossible task with the talent they posses) and the fans would see that as a good start. He would have time to build a national championship team. So J.K.’s statement that nobody is interested in SC is bull. If they didn’t get a great coach, it wasn’t because nobody was interested. It was because they didn’t look very hard(for whatever reason….which I’m still not sure).
That sure fits Haden, he looked out his window and picked the closest person he saw, less work that way.
Whether it be his job as AD or his charity work, the bootom line is that he’s been getting paid millions for doing nothing.
Yes. USC is definitely a top job. David Pollack and Paul Finebaum said it’s still a top 5 job. Joey Galloway said LSU is a better job, but you can’t take him seriously because he’s a Bruin Homer after OSU. But no question USC is one of the Kings Thrones. Swann seems to have a demeanor that he won’t just sit by and watch this train wreck continue into next season. I think he will find ways to get his message out to possible candidates without tampering. Plain and simple I think he’s already looking.
I hope so. I really like CH. I’ve never heard him say a bad thing about anyone. But if he’s not qualified to do the job, then you have to get someone who is. That’s just good business practices. The problem is that a lot of the people who hold the power strings at SC have never run a business in their life. They’ve never had a real job. They’re academics who can’t be fired. Like I said. It’s amazing to me that even after all of his terrible decisions(this guy is incompetent), if PH hadn’t chose to retire, He would still be the AD at SC. They’ve done a fairly good job when it comes to academics at USC. But when it comes to the football program, they are either blivering idiots or they deliberately want to downgrade the football program. At this point, I’m not sure which it is. But the football program is a major part of this university. When you think of SC you think of the football program. When you walk around town and see all of those people(who don’t attend USC) wearing SC baseball caps and jerseys and sweatshirts and sweatpants, they are not identifying with the math department. This school makes so much money off of the football program for things like TV, attendance, SC apparel, coffee mugs and a million other things that it would be insane to downgrade this football program. It just wouldn’t be good business tactics. But, as I said, these guys have never run a business in their life. The football program is the ID of SC. They must bring it back to the glory days and they will.
If Helton can be removed then the destruction in the football program caused by Pat Haden will cease with a replacement that is in line with USC’s stature. I don’t think Lynn Swann wants to be remembered as a bumbling failure. But we will see if he has the moxie to get Max Nikias to take USC football more seriously.
Perfectly said. Does he have the moxie to tell Nikias “this is what needs to be done”?
Wolf,
That’s two nights in a row where you have secured the USC Tweet of the Night.
Damn, you’re good!
Unanimous vote
He sure knows the recipe to make us want to turn the channel.
Who shot JR ?
Seriously who shot him, my parents used to watch and I had no clue what was going on?
Lol!
Mary Crosby, daughter of legendary actor and singer Bing Crosby.
Now I can jump into that conversation in the future. Thanks. I do know who shot Mr. Burns on the Simpsons.
Lol
Who’s to blame uncle Wolfman…. the money hungry politicians or #ClownU, is there a reason why #ClownU couldn’t just cut a check they supposedly have “$8 million” for a new HC???
The Los Angeles Police Protective League issued a letter to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Police Commissioner Matthew Johnson saying the police who take care of security for USC home football games “will be compelled to take further action” if they are not paid for their services.
That was settled by the Rams..Not USC! LAPD had requested payment from the Rams! Smh
In the words of NWA…
“#$@* the police!”
Jk.
Don’t believe it. When you are a player every game counts and you psyche yourself up for it. The USC fan base are crybabies about a silly kids game. More meaningful things to be concerned about in the world. The players will be ready for AZ State at home. Count on it.
Must not have been watching Helton’s heroes the past year in a half … they been throwing up the white flag by halftime in most games
“Someone.”
“Not a lot of spark” or “Not a lot of coaching”?
Did you ask the program janitor or landscaper. Or, did you steal the info from another reporter that tweeted it before you?
