What Happened To Ronald Jones?

jones-arizonaUSC tailback Ronald Jones had five carries for 20 yards last night. Now it’s clear Justin Davis is the best tailback and deserves the most playing time (and has not gotten enough carries either).

But can you imagine what Jones thinks today? If I asked USC fans before the season who was going to be the breakout star, I think many would say Jones. He has gained 152 yards in five games. That is less than he gained in one game against Arizona. Would anyone be surprised if he thought about transferring?

  1. Why transfer, Davis is a senior and will graduate so he’ll be the man next year

    • Jones won’t be the man if he doesn’t pick up his game. He’s in a self-admitted “slump”, as he called it.

Hope he breaks out because so far this season, he hasn’t looked one iota better than the other two true sophs, Ware and Davis.

  2. Last week Davis didn’t get enough carries. This week Jones, you got to find something don’t you. When is the post about Ware, too much or too little?

  3. Jones is a good, not a great back. He’s been beat out this year by a hard-playing, under-rated senior who is performing with more confidence, power and versatility.

USC’s got some other very good RBs who could also blossom, so if Jones isn’t careful, Dominic Davis and Cedric Ware could also pass him up. I doubt he’ll transfer, but if he does, it would hurt about as much as Browne leaving – not a lot.

SC’s real problem is our OL. Darnold covered up for a lot of their mistakes last night and we were only playing ASU. Hope our OL somehow finds a way to show up better in the future. So strange how USC can’t address that crucial weakness.

    • Jones is an excellent college running back. again, Jack B, you blog volumes but this one put down of Ronald Jones is nothing but CRAP as are so many of JB’s PERSONNEL gut feelings.

      • Jones is having a poor year. Davis is better. Only a fool wouldn’t be able to see that.

  4. Davis did not get that many touches either. There is only one football to go around and Darnold was hot last night..

.As an aside, I peeked over at the SUCLA blog to find out what the scored of the Arizona game was, and there were a total of 3 comments. 3 comments! What does Wolf get each weekend?–700!

  5. Davis is in beast mode. Beast mode I say!
But I heard that Rojos ribs are hurting him/ or has a cracked rib. He’s not a 100%.

    • If true, that makes Gomer look like an idiot. Why would he unnecessarily play a promising RB who has damaged ribs?

We don’t even need Jones to touch the ball with Davis and our other two sophs. What a dumb Gomer move.

      • It’s what I heard from my pal but via fighton247. my personal answer would me Gomer’s not very smart.

        • Last week he had bruised ribs but was obviously ok’d to play. I don’t think Helton is that dumb, yet.

        • When you can’t make your point with a logical argument, revert to name calling – right Sam? Your Gomer insult has grown very stale. You’re taking up space on my screen without adding any value. I’ve been on the fence about you for some time now, and the time has come to block you. You have been relegated to the Bucket/Owns Team.

  6. If RoJo transfers that is his business. His door will open next season and he needs to be ready. He has a lot of heat coming from AcaCedric Ware who is the RB that matches with Darnold.

  7. Rojo will get his turn, of this I am sure. It is good policy to go with the hot back. Last week the Trojans spread the ball around and we complained about not getting Davis touches in the second half.
We can’t have it both ways. Please stop pooping in the punch bowl.

  8. Something is wrong with Jones. He doesn’t run with the same spirit that he had his first year. It might be physical or mental, but Tommie needs to find out why we can’t get him in gear. He’s a potential weapon and I’d hate to see him transfer.

  9. Why would Ronald Jones even entertain the idea of transferring? Because the stage will be all his next year. But if he transfers, then he won’t be able to play at all, does that make sense? Lol

  10. Agree with you, SW. Not giving Ronald Jones at least 10 carries per game is nothing more than bone head coaching, The 10 carries should come on individual offensive possessions, no in for one play then out bull s@it. How can you be so damn unfair CH at moments notice ?

  11. Wolf trying to plant the seed, hoping that Jones transfers. Anything to hurt the team.
