Some USC-ASU Analysis

darnold-asu-3A former USC offensive lineman gave his thoughts on the Arizona State game:

“The right tackle was not a natural right tackle and against a better defensive end would have been in trouble. No. 70 must be in the doghouse to alternate.

“Again our unathletic OGs showed on the first-and-goal play where a guard couldn’t adjust to movement and got beat. Justin Davis looks special at times and to think he does it with very average line play – one long run, a guard pulled right and missed his guy and Davis still had a big run.”

  1. This former OL you frequently quote.Do you meet him in some dark room, his face hidden.?His voice alerted?….The team has many problems to fix.Top to bottom.
Some glaring. What continues is SW’s glaring desire to bash the Team ,Coaches and players..After a good victory, maybe some congrats are do…
I have no illusion that coaching and other changes be made…soon.
The Players played their best game. For this moment respect is due. If by chance SW you, can muster that maybe send a little Kessler’s way.

    • Simmons was a 5Star OG, forced to step in at tackle for the ASU game. His first career start in 5 years.

  2. Was this former Offensive Tackle Petros Papadakis? Lol. No shi*, the RT was Jordan Simmons who is a natural guard, but the injuries to Banner, Edoga, Wheeler have forced him to move to Tackle.

    • He played OT in high school and was recruited as such. At SC he has mostly been hurt and been moved around a lot mostly playing OG.

      • #1 OG or #2 OG. Kiffin recruited him to play OG. I personally wanted to see him at Tackle, but that was never an option. His “upside” was said to be at OG and Kiffin had him set there. Either way he’s never been healthy enough to see what was what.

  3. This former offensive lineman doesn’t seem to know squat about the current personnel or the injury status of players.

Let me guess… he played even less than Petros?

  4. I can’t help wondering why that SC offensive line didn’t look better in the 2nd half against Utah especially when Utah had lost Kylie Fitts, Stevie Tui’kolovatu and Lowell Lotulelei. That is a lot to lose off of your D-line.

  5. For what little I know I think USC should assign someone to start following JC football and recruiting for some O line men who can fill the gap between the outgoing seniors and the incoming frosh. If they don’t start early other teams will get the inside track on any available talent. Same with DL but there is less attrition there.
