Lynn Swann Speaks (Again)

swann-coliseumDon’t expect anything terribly noteworthy from Lynn Swann on the football program but here is what he said in his monthly interview with USC.

“The team has improved week over week. The players are executing better and making fewer mistakes, which were our biggest issues earlier in the year. They played strong, fast and confident against Arizona State, so Coach Helton has done a great job making sure the players are focused on the game ahead instead of worrying about the game behind. That is how you get better and have a winning season.”

Improved week over week? Did he see the Stanford game?

  1. This entire football program has gone into the bunker.
Crib notes for their Head Coach at pressers, Ex-A.D. in hiding and new A.D. appearing only on the internet and via cameo sightings on the sidelines and practice fields.
Paranoia rules the day as Troy burns.
Then again, given their track record, who can blame them?

    • Uhh, but you clowns will surely get smoked again – that one is almost a gimme – Rosen vs Darnold (if healthy) I will take SC every time!

Losing to Bama, at Stanford and at Utah was reasonably epected based on where the program is (all new coaches and first time qb) but so is winning out which means another L for the bRuins

      • The drunk rapist sock puppet is delusional.. He thinks the BATs are relevant .. Too much alcohol on the brain, dating back to 1954!

      • YoYo invokes the old excuses, excuses, excuses bozo u loser routine – but, but, but, but……

      • Actually, we’ve got a first-time QB who’s already better than Kessler. Unfortunately, he was on the bench when ALA and STAN took us apart.

  2. No knee jerk reaction from Lynn Swann, because he’s more professional than Pat Haden. Swann’s not going to give Clay Helton a ringing endorsement, because he doesn’t play the BS, game.

  3. I think the athletic director is being diplomatic. He didn’t play for a school whose athletic director bad mouthed his teams. Maybe he’s following an example he wants to set.

    • Very diplomatic. Reading between the lines, Swann perhaps is defining what Helton needs to achieve for the rest of the season. Substantial and continued improvement that leads to a significant winning season. I hope so. The Colorado game will be a good barometer.

      • It’s still hard for me to believe that CU is any good.

Pre-Season Sporting News – Buffs picked last in South.

        Athlon – Buffs picked 11th in Pac-12.

I’m happy that the Buffs have obviously improved. But I still think SC will punch them out now that Darnold has the helm.

        • I agree with you Jack, I am sure all those past games are in the Buffalo’s heads, hope we hit fast and often and bury them quickly.

        • at Michigan at Oregon at USC in past 4 weeks … CU has had a tough schedule , if qb isn’t hurt they r good

  4. The Swanny surfaces, mumbles platitudes, and then disappears down the bozo u rabbit hole.

  5. Swann genuinely wants Gomer to succeed, which is more than some coaches can say about their ADs. Gomer’s got to prove to Swann he and his staff can operate at a much higher level than they did at season’s beginning. Ball’s in his court.

  6. Isn’t this what spring practice is for? Shouldn’t the team ALREADY be prepared for the season instead of using the season itself to figure out the ways to improve? I don’t know.

  7. We need to evaluate USC versus quality opponents if we want to be the USC in the national conversation again, not versus opponents like Utah St and ASU. On those counts we have failed miserably.

  8. Listening to Saban get interviewed by Dan Patrick today, its depressing to think how far away we are from becoming relevant again. Listening to his methodology, how he communicates… It’s eye opening how far the quality gap is in our organization- from the top down. Swanny will have some tough decisions to make- If we finish weak against Sucla and Notre Dame- and lose poorly and not compete, it’s clear what we have to do. And before the Sucla trolls weigh in- your program is spiraling the drain as well- Mora will eventually do something too stupid for the administration to ignore and they will fire him.

    • If I was appraising Helton. I would assume that he has righted the ship at this point and he would get another year if we beat Colorado, Arizona, California, Oregon, UCLA and play Washington and Notre Dame tough and close. If we lose anyone of the next four I would get the communications going for a top notch game changing replacement.

      • Gomer might win 2 of those games 3 with some luck … Swann should just do everyone a favor including Gomer and just end it
