Stock Drop

A story on NFL.com lists USC right tackle Zach Banner as someone whose pro stock has dropped in the first half of the season.

“There was hope that Banner’s offseason weight loss would help him maximize his potential. However, he still lacked the lateral agility to handle better pass rushers through the first four weeks of the year.”

  1. James Franklin Update: everyone knows that Wolf pushed hard for this guy… he’s 18-14 at Penn St. (Wolf no longer mentions this)

  2. In the back of my mind I seem to remember him being hurt early in his career and has been afraid to get hurt again.
He was recruited as the number 2 lineman, but has never lived up to his potential. I expected him to break out this year.

  3. I still am at a loss as to why he ever had stock in the first place. You can tell if it is a run or a pass just by looking at his stance alone. Reach blocking in every pass rush because of his horrendous foot work and no kind of nastiness that any good O-lineman has to have.

  4. ….Banner has suffered from bad coaching…that said he has always been overrated and basically has a position by default…the real reason the Alabama spread was so low is that the coaches told wild tales about their OL improvement…you dont go from crap to best in the nation just because you are a year older…it should be reason number one Helton is fired…not not not a good judge of talent….

  5. All I want to know, who is Mora going blame next week and the week after..

    Haaa Haaaaa

  6. Banners size was his attribute. Not surprising though his stock has fallen. Kind of indicative of the entire USC offensive line

  7. This guys had enough opportunities. Leave him on the bench and give Edoga or some other young lineman the job. Can’t do any worse than what Banner’s been doing.

  8. He’s a 21 yr old kid trying his best to make it. He didn’t heap the praise on himself. Bad coaching and being overhyped have contributed to him underperforming. Reminds me of Aundray Walker.

      • I’m not talking about USC. I am talking about the fraud of a program with your cheating coaches and weak offensive line, who does not protect Rosen! Ucla is not that good. The media always gives the fans false hopes!

  9. So, what about the thought that maybe we’re going to have some kind of “issues” until we get the kids who played under sanctions and coaching turnover out of the program? It was a totally tainted period and maybe some of that taint got on the kids in ways. For example, I think the poor tackling has been a function of players who never spent that much time practicing tackling. I could think of other things, but it seems that something else just hasn’t been quite right with the players beyond coaching or talent or the lack thereof.

  10. Banner should be a guard. He’s a great run blocker but he doesn’t have the quick feet to pass block on the outside.
