Let Ronald Jones Take Over

jones-colorado-2016If USC is smart it will give Ronald Jones 20-25 carries against Arizona and just see what he can do. No rotating. No nonsense. Just give him a game. Either he performs or he doesn’t. But make him No. 1 and see if he can play like he did last year.

  1. I doubt they will give the ball to him every play but I am sure he will get his mojo going.

  2. I would also, but we might as well redshirt him since he’s missed six games. And we still have Acacsedric Ware and Dominique Davis who we rarely see.

  3. Why not 25+ carries? The Ball isn’t very heavy, and he doesn’t belong to a Union.

  4. Taking football advice from a journalist that can’t write, spell or proof-read his own work…a recipe for distaster. You give the ball to the guy if he is successful; forcing it when it doesn’t work is a mistake…

    • If it takes Helton 25 plays to see if Jones can run effectively then he shouldn’t be the coach. I’m sure Jones will get plenty of opportunities, but if he doesn’t perform he will be replaced.

It’s good the Blogger is not calling plays, recruiting, etc.

    • I agree to a certain point. In the old days when USC was a power running team, the rb’s would not gain more than two to five yards a carry. The yardage was a minimual amount. However, in the fourth quarter, you would see a world of difference. All of a sudden, those same plays were not adding up to 6 to 10 yards an the run yardage changed dramatically because the opposing team’s defense was tired. Remember, they did not substitute like today, so the defense was tired. If they plan to play Jones as the rb, then he has to run the ball a minimum of 25 times or more. I remember seeing Ricky Bell run the ball I think 56 times against Washington St. back in 1976. He had 356 yards rushing. I wish USC would implement a fullback to help block and open holes. That is what is needed for a rb to be successful.

  5. If somebody told Clay Helton he would win 12 games by running the ball, I guarantee he still wouldn’t do it…lol because he’s a Steve Sarkisian clone, minus the alcohol. Helton has bigger, and better ideas on how to win football, games.

  6. if Helton and Tee do their job beating the Arizona defense with plays that are working, be it the pass, the run, or 50-50, Arizona can kiss the game good by.

    • ARIZ has no shot and will lose to USC by 14-21 points. The Wildcats have only beat Hawaii and Grambling St. Even ucla beat them by 21.

      • So 4 quarters of predictable, conservative (esp in crunch time), incompetent, 3 and out Sarkisian play calling will necessarily have the Wildcats begging for mercy ? Arizona took the Huskies into overtime when at full strength. You left out the UA-UW overtime, Jack B. It’s goes with the territory, doesn’t it ?

        • I’m big on Darnold, how he has affected the team, and I don’t think the Wildcats can defend him. I think they’re pretty banged up. Adoree’s the best special teams player in the country.

ARIZ took UW to the limit, but they’ve kind of “popped” ever since. Most good teams have a bad game every season and I think that was UW’s.

SC just has too much skill talent. I see us running a little wild.

  7. That suggestion makes good sense; however, the head coach might not grasp the concept due to its simplicity.
