Jim Harbaugh v. Clay Helton

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and USC coach Clay Helton were at the Dorsey-Hawkins football game last night in Los Angeles. They are both recruiting five-star wide receiver Joseph Lewis of Hawkins. USC needs another wide receiver after all. At some point, they might need to recruit some defensive tackles.

  1. Get the 5 star, dump a 3 star, that’s how it goes, unless you’re USC, then you keep them both

  2. Michigan has 14 WRs on the current roster – so maybe you should be asking Harbaugh that question.

        • And lazy. It’s easy to count the WR’s on the team, it’s hard to Google their scholarship players

    • Winning cures everything.

When you win like Harbaugh, you can have 20 WRs and get away with it. When you win like Gomer and are on the hot seat, frankly, it’s disingenuous to use Harbaugh in the same sentence as Gomer. Gomer should be so lucky.

      • I’m sure Jim Harbaugh has a position coach on his staff that would be a better head coach then Clay Helton. One head coach understands you win games from the inside out, and one that believes from the outside in. And guess which one will be looking for work soon , and which one will probably be playing for a national, championship?

    • Alabama has nineteen WR on their 115 man roster this season. Don’t know how many are on scholarship, though.

  3. Very true. If USC doesn’t sign a good number of very talented OLs and DLs on LOI Day, regardless of the current numbers on the team, then USC football can just dream on. Help is desperately needed in the trenches to beat the big boys (not just the also-rans) and we’ll see if Gomer gets it.

    • As of now, Helton has 2 DE’s and another DE who ist 270 so he’s probably a DT and 3 OL’s The 2 DE’s are 3 & 4 stars the 270 kid is a 3 star. The OL’s are all 4 star’s, for what’s that’s worth

      • Lot of time before signing day. Our current commitment list means nothing at this point. It could get worse or even stronger, but too early to tell.

  4. Harbaugh won’t get Lewis. Scott Wolf has no clue what happened. He had to read about this on other USC websites. Great job Scottie!

  5. Clay Helton continues to make baffling decisions, just like Pat Haden did as athletic director. Nothing Helton does makes any sense, from the offense he runs to the recruiting, which is all over the place. I always hear about offensive skill players he’s recruiting, but never about the people that control the line of scrimmage. He is definitely his father’s child, meaning, Steve Sarkisian.

    • It’s been a long time since USC has not had any (or little) NFL experience in their coaching ranks. Carroll (w/Ken Norton as well), Sark, Kiffin, even Hackett. We have Pendergast who doesn’t want to recruit. Not very appealing to 5 Star Recruits who aspire to play on Sundays and want to know the path to get there. Can Udeze save us?

  6. Some boneheads think a football program can’t be turned around in a matter of 1 or 2 years even under a great coach, and the like of Gomer should be given more time…A LOT more time to prove himself. The Exhibit A to prove that they’re hallucinating is Michigan and Harbaugh!

  7. Can we trade a couple of Receivers to Michigan for a couple of their spare Lineman?

  8. Long ago USC would grab people for the express reason of keeping other teams from getting them. Maybe Helton was looking for athletes.

  9. Scottie, make up your mind. During the Pete Carroll years Pete would have seven to ten end on the team. Then Pete would recruit another rb and you would agree to get the very best rb if he would sign with USC. Now you are complaiing because because USC is overloaded with receivers. Make up ur mind
