Oluwole Betiku’s Long Journey

Here’s a story on freshman defensive end Oluwole Betiku’s journey from Nigeria to USC.

“Take one look at him and his monstrous 6-foot-4, 260-pound frame, listen to how he willed his way from Nigeria to Los Angeles in search of a better life, and you’ll find yourself dreaming up a bright future for the supersized defensive end and his mega-watt smile — a possibility that, from the dirt streets of Lagos, had seemed so distant and unattainable.”

  1. Wow, someone at the Daily News can write. The blogger should have quoted this line instead “,,,as a senior, he committed to UCLA, before flipping to the school across town.”

  2. WHERE there is a will, there is a way…good job recruiting him. Wonder who they are recruiting this wk’nd…

        • Wole? Yes. But he will be in the NFL. He’s been on the field the last two games. He’ll be making big plays shortly. He looks like a grown man already. He’s gonna be special. Ask the Bruins LOL! Decommitted from Bel Air Tech. I told Safer in Westwood and Owns for a good 5-6 months he would be a Trojan. What else is new right?

          • Damn good choice. According to the trolls UCLA has a big Nigerian number in the student body, but Wole chose USC. Great choice!

          • It looks like B-tech is back to rebuild mode.. Football, Basketball and Baseball are all bad..Women sports is better lol.

          • We beat them up in pretty much every sport. We’ll beat them at the Rose Bowl this year. Mora’s finding how hard life is without Rosen just like when Barkley went down and Mustain came in. We were awful.

          • Polamalu is breaking out excuses about not having the right personal or he just realized the truth would set him free. Darnold’s gonna have a field day in Pasadena.

          • The Times had a long article per Neuheisel’s kid playing in Japan of how little depth BA tech has and one of the ones crying the loudest is Mora. Five years in and he still keeps sliding into his poor recruitment i.e. they’re all his picks now.

          • He should be embarrassed. He was supposedly known as a “players coach” almost Pete Carroll like. His NFL players liked him, and he talked a big game, but he really never took advantage of USC and our down time of the sanctions. Mique Juarez only went to UCLA because Sark was fired and wants out. And so far his top commit is only a Bruin because both parents were Bruins. Mora’s been a letdown. Where would the program be right now if Josh Rosen went elsewhere?

          • Guerrero has to be feeling some heat esp. if Altford hits the fan again this year along w. the declining skill set (if any) Mora congratulated himself when he arrived.

          • Just ordered pizza for the fam. Staying in tonight. Was gonna go see “the accountant” but we’ll go Sunday. I’ll watch the game and Gold Rush. That show has me hooked Lol.

          • Yeah darn good show that crazy Dutchman is a real piece of work but my fav is the guy that went from AK to OR down to Guyana back to Yukon and now back in OR.

The 21 yr. old is bright but also someone who hasn’t a clue of how hard life can be and being that successful before 22 yrs. of age.

          • I’ve been pulling for the Hoffmans since the beginning.
Tony Beats is a tough SOB who can also drive you crazy.
Parker is a smart kid who’s lucky mom, dad, and grandpa helped him hugely along the way, but is a cocky little squirt.
            Makes for damn good tv.

      • 24/7 is predicting Harris lands at SC. Long way to go but a good sign considering he’s “committed” to bama

        • Yeah I seen that. It’s an interesting recruitment to follow. Before he committed to Bama his crystal ball was like 70% SC. Now there’s a pick to SC. There’s rumors that ultimately he doesn’t want to leave the West Coast. That’s where we come in. I would take him and/or Stephen Carr, but Carr sounds like he will bolt if Harris comes in. If we keep winning it only helps.

  3. Maybe our blog writer can learn not only from Betiku, but from the writer on how to always give it your best.
I noticed there were no snarky, negative remarks either.

  4. Mel Kiper re. Kessler from the Browns fan site

“17. Cody Kessler, QB, Cleveland Browns

This is the third time he’s done the list this season, and making his debut on it is QB Cody Kessler of the Cleveland Brown
Previously ranked: NR | Final 2016 Big Board rank: 184

Kessler, forced to play because of injuries to Robert
Griffin III and Josh McCown, has been better than expected. I thought
the undersized (6-1, 215 pounds) signal-caller would be a career backup
    — he regressed as a senior at USC, and he doesn’t have a big-time
arm. But he has been efficient early on, completing 65.6 percent of his
passes and throwing just one interception (with four touchdown
passes). Now, Kessler’s efficiency hasn’t led to wins for the 0-6
Browns, but his play is one of the few bright spots so far. I ranked
him as my No. 13 QB before the draft.”

Then there’s that brainwave by the Rams and Goffs.
