  1. Well sounds about right – a team with 3 losses and fast getting it’s ‘mojo’ back. ‘If’ USC somehow someway defeats WA @ WA well look out sports fans – we’re really back.

      • Yeah ok got it – you don’t believe Helton has any insight nor skill nothing to believe in here save that the position of head coach is ceremonial – Prendergast seems to be onto something as does Martin – both brought in by Helton.

        .

        • Try not to lose your head. I never said Gomer had no insight nor skill. Those are strictly your words.

I also never said the position of HC is ceremonial. Your ridiculous words again. Ceremonial? Maybe in your eyes.

If ever there was an OC learning on the job, it’s Tee Martin. And if Darnold had been starting against ALA under a smarter HC, Martin wouldn’t have looked so stupid against ALA and STAN.

The reason USC is unranked is because of its coaching, not its talent. That’s all I said and that’s obvious to both the AP and the voting coaches and a large percentage of USC fans who watch the Trojans with just as much interest as you do.

          • Hey suit yourself in fact come to think of it
yeah you’re right let’s see you call him ‘Gomer’- repeatedly.

          • Why would I do that? This is only a silly message board, not a personal private meeting with Gomer, whom I couldn’t care less about meeting in the first place.

          • All knew this would be a tough year at best and 1 – 3 was the worst September we all assumed. Things have dramatically turned around due to Darnhiold being promoted all recognize that.

You and a number of others pile on Helton constantly. He’s brought stability to a mess and if he wins out I welcome him back.

I seriously doubt you ever shall.

          • Not everyone has to like Gomer as you do, especially since he was hired by Nikias not because he would win but because he was unlikely to embarrass USC with off-the-field things. Haden didn’t even hire him. Since Nikias knows nothing about football, that’s all just part of the Trojan disfunction nowadays.

I don’t know one person, not one USC fan, who won’t fully embrace Gomer if he shows he doesn’t need advice from Swann and can win a NC or at least field a playoff team. So, you’re wrong.

          • Whatever and good bye – the board bully that’s all you are and have ever been and ever will be – good bye to you.

          • Poor baby. Why don’t you slink back into your hole and pick a fight with someone else who thinks Gomer has a lot to prove.

I seriously doubt you ever shall.

          • The defense looked a lot more stupid than Martin at Stanford. Blame the players execution or blame Pendergast, but McCaffrey not being covered was inexcusable. It was embarrassing hearing Kirk Herbstreit explain what had just happened on the play. He sounded like he wanted to bash SC. Two safeties holding hands while the Heisman Trophy hopeful runs a route untouched and uncovered. Made USC, Clay Helton, and Pendergast look like a bunch of A-Holes.

          • USC could only put up 10 on STAN.

WSU (42) and UW (44) and their experienced OCs rang up the Cardinal with ease.

          • That’s exactly what I said. If Gomer had been playing Darnold as he should have, Martin’s calls might have actually worked. Instead we scored 10 while UW and WSU walked all over the Cardinal.

          • Yeah, that loss to the Cardinal looks worse when you factor in how bad they actually are. The good news is Darnold is getting better every week and he shouldn’t be too rattled having got his lunch handed to him by Bama and playing a tough road game at Utah under his belt. I like our chances as long as Sam is at QB.

          • Im telling you, the Cardinal were without their two starting CB. I think. Big difference in D. McCaffrey has been a bust on the road. (Not having scored a TD on the road in his career at Stanford)

          • Stanford only scored 5 at home. We made them look better than they are. That’s our fault. But we just beat Colorado and Colorado beats them. If Darnold is behind Center in Palo Alto we win that game.

          • That’s right, Artie the Intern, McCaffrey was sure a bust last year on the road against SC. Do you ever think before you type?

          • Weren’t their two stud CB hurt in both games? The Cardinal played pretty good against SC with those two out there.

  2. Polls are meaningless until the last two games of the season. Ask Ohio State ? Looking at the Top 25 now, USC could beat 5-8 of those teams anyway. Just like on Natl signing day, verbals now mean squat. And NO USC is far from being back, the future though, looking rather bright!

      • Learning at OUR expense as alums & fans! Learning how to coddle an under performing team with milk & cookies! That’s learning? Uh huh….

        • Gomer did get served a rather large piece of cake. And he is learning on our dime. What did you expect him to do? Turn down the dream job he was unqualified for?

We’re got some great kids on the team though. USC, even under Gomer, could easily win out except for the UW game.

Best learn to live with things the way they are. Nothing’s changing soon. At least he doesn’t have any more QB decisions to make.

          • Agree that Helton was not of right mind with his game plan and QB choice at beginning of the season, but hang tight, Trojans. At 4-3 all is not lost. With wins against Cal, Oregon, ucla, ND (all within our reach) and perhaps an upset of U-Dub… well…c’mon…you gotta believe. If Helton & Co. lose any more than one game in regular season, I think we can moan and complain. Until then, FIGHT ON!

          • Sorry, I don’t speak that language. I have no idea what you’re trying to say, so I’ll leave you to your own game.

          • Wow. So, you’re – what? – 18 years old AND deranged. Quite a show, but I’m not watching…

            nm.

          • Why do you think beating UW is impossible? Have I missed something that they’ve done to suggest they’re even remotely unbeatable?

          • Nothing’s impossible. Just unlikely based on UW’s coaching, record, home field advantage, excellent QB and overall team, etc.

I don’t know when the last time was USC beat the #4 team in the country. Maybe you can tell me.

Just being objective. Were I a Husky fan, I’d be thinking we win this game by at least 10 against the uneven Trojans who already have three pretty bad losses, all for different reasons.

Sounds like you’re predicting a USC victory. Is that true or are you gonna hedge your bet and say USC “could win” but will probably lose as most everyone thinks?

          • I don’t know when the last time was SC beat a top 5 team. Maybe Stanford or Oregon in the last 3-4 years? As for the game against UW, I do think SC will win. They’ve got better athletes across the board and I haven’t been as impressed as a lot of people with UW’s wins.

          • This game almost repeat almost has the feel of 2011 when Oregon was rolling with new coach Chip Kelly and were a victory or two away from playing in the BCS CG. We are not that 2011 team, but we do have our QB now, a good rushing attack, some good weapons at receiver. Just need Clancy Pendergast to earn his pay check and Banner to earn his stripes and we can beat them. Sam Darnold will NOT pull an Aaron Corp on us. That game is the measuring stick to our season.

          • I don’t think the game is impossible to win but based on what I saw with the Stanford game, it seems they have got it going in Seattle and when they do that is a very difficult place to get a win for anything less than a great visiting team.

          • SC has to score first and take the crowd out of the game. Then anything is possible with SC’s talented quarterback.

    • Your operative words are “could beat.” Woulda, coulda, shoulda. USC could have beat both STAN and UTAH, and while neither are that good, USC couldn’t do it when it counted.

I think the future is bright. But the present could be a lot brighter if we hadn’t hired a coach who needed on-the-job training and advice from his AD.

          • Two players SC wants is Jaelan Phillips. It’ll take a coaching change of Mora or his position coach to have a crack at him, but you never know with 18 year old kids. And the other a Bruin “lean” DeSean Holmes 5* CB. Bruins seem to be leading and Nebraska are up there for him. Gerard Martinez says USC is gonna try and take as many as 4-5 DT’S.

        • They’ve all given up on Mora. Surprisingly they’ve also thrown in the towel on the running game.

          • The little gutty OL can’t block the run game and can barely block the pass game, hence Rosen is out. So they pass 70X a game. Have you watched their run game? Their backs are fine. Bad OLs. Tough problem to fix.

  3. Defense and Special Teams are also playing much better. Funny how scared teams are to kick to Adoree.

  4. According to Gerard Martinez Tua Tagovailoa is not solid to Alabama and will definitely visit USC officially in January. That the SC staff and him are very much in touch and USC is feeling better about their chances with him

    • He goes to Bama and will sit 3 years, he goes to USC and he will sit 2 years minimum, he could go to a lot of schools and maybe sit 1 year

      • He and Clay Helton had a great relationship, he was going to commit before the summer was over and Alabama swopped in and snagged him. Tyson Helton came on and they had a great relationship. Now he is thinking over his commitment to Bama. There really were no other schools for him after Bama and SC. This one will be interesting to follow heading into signing day.

        • He looks good, but he’s 6’1″, maybe, plays against zero competition, someone else will come along if he goes to Bama

  5. 5 names have surfaced to replace the Fresno State football coach who was fired this morning.

    Kiffin
    Orgeron
    Drevno
    Wilcox
    Baxter

All with So Cal and USC ties.

Tedford and a Jimbo Fisher asst was also named.

    • Kiffin and Orgeron can recruit and could do well at Fresno. Look what San Diego St is doing this year. Cali is loaded with talent.

      • I agree.. The one interesting name on the list is Drevno. He’s a central Ca guy..Kiffin would be a longshot. Don’t think Fresno would hire him..yet a Kiffin Sark recruiting combo for them would give the Pac12 coaches a run for their money. Kiffin at HC and Sark as OC. Hmmm!

        • I hate to say this, but I think Kiffin can do better than Fresno St. Saban will vouch for him now and they think he’s a savior of sorts in Alabama.
