Perhaps You Could Run On Cal

jones-calUSC tailbacks Ronald Jones and Aca’Cedric Ware made a bet to see who could gain 200 yards against Cal, which had the nation’s 126th-ranked run defense. Jones told me that even I “could have gotten loose on a couple runs” last night. I disagreed.

“I have faith in you,” Jones said.

One thing to remember: Oregon State rushed for 474 yards against Cal.

  1. Could I run Cal. WTF. Time to smoke a joint and have a good laugh at another stupid question!

  2. Tell Rojo when he gets to the 2nd and 3rd level don’t just be happy to be there, finish it. You regret tackles in the 2nd and 3rd level more than the first. You’re letting one guy take a touchdown away from you when it should take 3 or 4. You’re trying to get 7 every time you touch it. Ask Adoree what his goal is when he has the ball.

    • It almost looked like Jones ran out of steam when he reached the 3rd level and was content to be taken down. You don’t see that from Adoree or JuJu.

      • Good observation, Helen. It’s up to your O-linemen to get you past the first level and everything else is up to you. The great ones get excited when they get into open field and relish one on one opportunities. You really gotta finish those especially against teams like Cal. Cal had one starting DB playing last night and these guys are tackling you one on one? Something is wrong with that if I’m really a baller.

          • On the 61 yd run, Rojo did a great job hitting the corner fast and fighting off attempted arm tackles. It was actually a strong run and he was running with that fire I saw last year. However, whenever you get to the corner like that, you know the entire defense is flowing that way and you should automatically be looking for the cutback or giving a DB a nice fake to the inside so you can continue down the sideline. You just have to look at the angle the DB is taking, his body position and his momentum and then you use that stuff against him. You can influence all of those things with what you do as you’re approaching him. The DB will show you how he wants to get beat and you just have to recognize it when you see it and have the physical ability and savvy to exploit it. This is what Rojo needs to get better at.

  3. Wasn’t the Blogger the one saying USC should run on every play and complained 2 weeks ago that the RBs weren’t getting enough touches?

Actually Jones and Ware looked really good running the ball – great vision and cutbacks all night. That’s what happens when the OL opens some holes.

  4. And as weak as Cal was against the run, guess who wanted to be cute, and show everybody he’s a passing guru, coach?

    • Come on Fred. Are you saying those 5 TD throws were a waste of time? Nothing wrong with a balanced offense, especially when you have an amazing passer (great touch!) and an All-America WR who breaks as many or more tackles as our RBs.

In fact, JuJu breaks tackles that RoJo can’t hope to bust and he shows this ability every game.

      • I can’t argue the point with you, Jack, because USC won the game. But what I’m trying to say is , that if you can easily run the ball, then do, IT!!! I could have drove an RTD bus through those holes, down after down.

        • Wow Fred, did we watch the same game? They ran the ball at will a LOT. Cal pulled people up which gave USC the passing lanes, and someone saw it and capitalized. 3 yards and a cloud of dust all night? When there are 11 guys in the box, keep running? USC only threw what, 25 times?

      • Is JuJu ok? He took quite a shot to the back and limped off. I haven’t read anything about his status.

    • Learned something from his former boss … Goat Kiffin lol
Kiffin your boss , u know then u should never be a HC

    • Seriously! I had the headache before a hangover type feeling last night and SW sobered me right up LOL!

  5. Andy Enfield, staff and USC basketball hosting all world recuit 5⭐PF Billy Preston for his final Official Visit this weekend.

    #CLOSE THE DEAL
    #SC BASKETBALL!

  6. Cal beat a Utah, Oregon and Texas with same rush d. No matter what happens, The Flounder will downplay an SC win. You can hear it now: “But why did SC not win every game” “why didn’t they go after this unknown local recruit” blah, blah, blah… the guy would put a negative spin on it if you won the lottery… “why didn’t you win the $20 million dollar jackpot???”

    • Scott or Fred? Just kidding Fred. I understand your zeal for the Trojans to return to their dominating ways. Helton can only take them so far. I get frustrated watching their undisciplined play, which should have been taken care of at this point in the season.

  7. I knew it. I just knew Wolf would find a way to downgrade the 400 yards of rushing against CAL. If SC had run for 750 yards, Wolf would have said that the front 7 of Cal were mad at the defensive co-ordinator of Cal and were trying to make him look bad. Wolfie, you are the worlds all-time greatest naysayer.

  8. Boormeister is really a good kicker. In earlier games he was booting the kick off out of the end zone. But they were getting the ball on the 25 yard line. I think the coaches reasoned that if he kicked it to the goal line and no further, they would run it back to the 15-17 yard line which would put them 8-10 yards farther in the hole. Now he’s kicking it to the goal line or 1 yard line.

  9. So you’re telling me in only a year and a half RoJo has already figured out how big of a tool you are, Flow? You got played.

  10. Jones is making fun of the mighty Wolf by suggesting that even HE could’ve run through Cal?

Ooh. Messing with the wrong bad hombre.
