Max Browne Can Go To UCLA (Or Anywhere Else He Desires)

browne-ala-3Clay Helton said tonight he would allow Max Browne to transfer to any school. When specifically asked about UCLA, Helton said that would be OK too. So Browne can go anywhere. It would be fun if Browne went to a team on USC’s schedule.

  1. Could you imagine Browne playing behind ucla’s oline? Over/under 1 half before he suffers a career ending injury

    • But he should get to throw 70 passes a game before he goes down. Consider it an early combine.

  2. Browne to UCLA? Stop it! He’d have to wait….again! Max – you deserve to play. Go to a school that needs a QB now/next year. Cal, OSU….?

  3. I could see him at a Mountain West school, that’s about his talent level, maybe

  4. He should transfer to a Big Ten school, that already has a strong running game, because he would prosper in a situation like that.

    • I am a little disappointed that so many are running Max down. This offense, with this personnel, requires a more mobile QB. If Max played for a team with a really integrated OL and strong running game, he would probably do well. I gather that Max throws long passes more accurately than Sam does (at this time).

He and Sam must really have looked pretty close in practice, unless Helton operated on a death wish.

Say what you and I might about Helton, this is one of his comments that shows his maturity and quality as a person. As when Juju committed that personal foul several weeks ago, and Helton didn’t yell, a la Jimbo Fisher or chemically imbalanced Sark, but simply said, “you’re a better person than that.”

If that restraint and teaching has no place in college coaching, something has gone awry.

  5. Not UCLA. They run a pro style offense. It’s not working for Rosen and wont work for Browne.

  6. My thing is that if you’re leaving for sure, then turn in your playbook and leave the team. I don’t want the presence of your impending absence around the rest of the team during the remainder of the season. Also, there are no restrictions as to where you can go and that means you could be playing for a future opponent as soon as spring. Why would I want you around for the things I’m installing for the rivalry and bowl games?

Max has been a great citizen, I wish him the best and I’m truly sorry things didn’t work out better for him here. However, if it really is over, then end it and don’t let this linger just so Max can “stay sharp” for his next opportunity. If you let him hang around then it’s something you’re doing for HIM and not your team. Just like you did it for him and not your team when you named him starter and stayed with him too long. Regard for Max’s situation has hurt us enough this year. Cut him loose if/when he tells you he’s leaving for sure and you don’t need to wait to find out where he’s going.

      • I just want to see a little harder edge from coach Helton. I don’t want him to change who he is, but I want him to always remember what his top priority is – the program.

    • Gee Clay…Did we have the same instructors in our writing classes? You write just like I do! Or the other way around! LOL!

    • He named him the starter so he would not leave. No ready back up in place—screwed the kid—could have played somewhere else right now! Gomer is not mr. nice guy!

      • I think loyalty played as least as much of a role in Helton’s decision. He recruited Max and then coached him for years, all the while telling him to be patient through the Kessler years. I think he is a nice guy almost to a fault.

  7. Browne’s degree is in communications, should he want to get his Masters … Stanford, Michigan, Northwestern and Pitt have the best masters programs aside from USC..

  8. Perhaps he could transfer to Fresno after they hire Kiffen. What a great reunion. They would both be there one year.
