USC-UCLA Picture Of Day II

usc-ucla-1957-card-stunt

In 1957, the Trojan Squires pulled a memorable prank at the USC-UCLA game. During each Bruins card stunt, a cardinal and gold “SC” appeared in the upper left, as seen above.

    • It’s gonna be a cakewalk, like you say. All the Trolls are silent. They know they’ve got a 5, maybe 10% chance of winning this one. Even if they lose a squeaker, they can’t be caught hyping moral victories.

So the Trolls will just keep their traps shut until after the game, and if they somehow win (you know, the rivalry game miracle), they’ll be all over this place, screaming to high heaven about how arrogant USC is.

Truth is, we’re just much better than ucla and some of us aren’t afraid to say it. Beat the little gutties. They stink.

      • The smart Bruins are not talking. They know what kind of team they have. That three game winning streak, that “we own this town” talk is going to seem like ancient history. USC is better and that’s all there is to it.

      • BTW. While watching an interview of Kennedy Polamalu it made realize how lucky we are to have coaches like Tommy Robinson and Ronnie Bradford. Yes, even Ronnie Bradford. His personality aside, Bradford has made our Secondary tougher this season. Our staff has really surprised me.

        • Ya, I don’t really care if our players like our coaches. Respect is what counts. I doubt many like Saban. I’m sure some can’t stand Harbaugh.

Recruiting is a little different of course, Gotta put on an act to reel them in. You HAVE to be able to recruit. Orgeron made a career of just that.

But if you can’t develop players and inculcate them with a winner’s edge, you’ll pay on the field, where it counts.

For us, the big question mark has always been Nansen, as to whether he was good on the practice field. Maybe he’s a great recruiter and can somehow take up slack created by Bradford.

          • Actually Nansen has been our pipeline to the Polynesian kids. He’s also been a real surprise coaching up the LB’S. On the coaching side of like the way things have gone with Helton’s staff.

Just seen 2018 Mock NFL Draft.
            1. Lamar Jackson QB Louisville
            2. SAM DARNOLD USC
            3. Arden Key DE LSU
            4. JOSH ROSEN QB ucla

          • What is it about Josh Rosen that stands out, and is so eye popping, I don’t get it ? Everything about Sam Darnold’s talent jumps off the page, but I can’t seem to grasp on to all of the, Rosen media hype.

          • I would say his arm strength is really good. He throws a good ball. He has good footwork but after that he’s not very eye popping like you said. He doesn’t know when to go down or throw it away. He’s not as smart as we thought.

          • Nothing. He was an overhyped recruiting creation playing in a successful high school offensive system. Think BYU system quarterback Marc Wilson on the Raiders….

          • At this point my eyes aren’t impressed, and I don’t gobble media hype, so you might be right .

    • Sammy, my offer is still on the table. According to you UCLA is easy money; why not hook a Bruin fish?

Talk is awfully cheap. Doan’t forget you had bozo u upsetting Alabama. Result: 52 – 6 bozo u, no TD humiliation.

  1. I’ll bet that bozo u Elementary school card trick took 25 bozos a year to plan and execute.

  2. A truly classic, good-natured, brilliant boffo RF on ucla.

Now the schools are simple-mindedly reduced to trying to paint each others’ mascot statues. Nothing fun about that. Just a giant solvent clean-up job.

  3. Somewhere in a box at my parents house is a color photo of this and other stunts. They managed to get a square with SC in a few of the card stunts that year.

  4. I was lucky enough to be in the student section when we performed the famous Westwood Sucks card stunt on national TV
