Major League Baseball Dumps USC-Preferred Search Firm

haden-sark-asuKorn Ferry, the search firm used by USC for its “coaching searches,” has been dropped by Major League Baseball, according to USA Today. According to the story, nearly all the hires were either from the Cleveland Indians or knew Toronto Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro, the Indians’ former president and GM.

Korn Ferry also failed to figure out Steve Sarkisian had a drinking problem, although that was a sham because USC’s administrators had to be aware of it and looked the other way. Everyone in Seattle knew. Many people in L.A. knew. They really didn’t have to do much because Pat Haden never really ran extensive coaching searches.

  1. Since a Drinking Problem is considered a Disability in California and terminating someone on that basis is illegal, just curious: Is not hiring someone because of this also illegal discrimination?

  2. The dead horse of “what would our record be if Darnald started all season” thinks the “search committee” topic has been beaten to death. The blogger is obviously a big believer in frequency to make his point.

    • He’s obsessed with Sark, Kiffen, Haden, Garrett, the women at the USC Bookstore and women’s soccer jerseys.

      • I hesitate to mention it….for it will reappear…”The baby QB”
Lots of renewed recruiting interest. I’ve heard talk of 2 DL’s from Hawaii, know anything??

        • How could I forget. I know we offered a couple of three star kids. I haven’t paid much attention to them. I know we offered Tua Tagovailoa’s cousin for this class. He’s a DT. But we are looking good with 5Star OT Austin Jackson. I would call him a lean maybe even a silent. But after the Washington victory Foster Sarell #1 OT in the nation called Helton and booked an official visit so we are starting to pick up some steam. I’m hoping we can land two top DT’S like Jay Tufele and Greg Rogers. Rogers may commit to UCLA but I don’t think it will stick to signing day.

    • SC’s season is coming along just fine thanks to Darnold and will only get better once the Trojans drill you little gutties into the Rose Bowl turf Sat night. We’re gonna get into a very good bowl game while ucla sits at home, twiddling their thumbs.

You predicting a miracle ucla victory? Or do you have your head bowed down like every other Troll here, afraid to predict your little gutties aren’t headed for yet another defeat at the hands of “Monster” USC?

  3. Why does any entity, let alone the MLB and USC, need to hire a search firm? Are they incapable of going through the hiring process themselves?

  4. This is a relevant news bite. With ‘Capper’ in the hospital and his legacy constantly receding into the mist this is important and I’m glad SW has posted it.

MLB finally dumped this clown search firm and yes it is relevant that USC is still connected to the same firm.

  5. Who cares whether Korn Ferry lost a big client in Nov 2016?

It’s all irrelevant anyway. Haden hired Sark because Haden, McKay and Mark Jackson liked the guy and Petersen didn’t really want the job.

Haden kind of blew the search off for reasons that will always be unknown and unfathomable. McKay said on the radio nobody else wanted the job. We got very lucky that Sark got drunk on the job and we were able to bail on him very early.

    • It appears that Korn Ferry is susceptible to being manipulated with the USC and MLB accounts pointing that way.

Never good to be known as one who can be manipulated in your industry.

    • I remember espn’s article about Steve Sarkisian confirmed everything you just mentioned, Jack . Mark Jackson was the one who pushed for Sarkisian, because he fell for the con. The article said Sarkisian would imitate Pete Carroll’s characteristics, and even the way he would talk, because he really didn’t have an identity for himself. It was an interesting read, and I was shocked Scott Wolf never brought it up on his blog

  6. Sark and “St Pat” agreed to Sark’s bozo u employment after 12 fireballs and a finger pull.

      • Pat you ready to talk? Number nuts you were wrong about that crap you said earlier so get your facts straight before you accuse someone. Comprende???????

Go look up UW’S commitment listed Einstein. Henry Bainivalu just committed. Foster Sarell is not….

        So I repeat….

        Get…..Your…..sh*t……correct!

  7. I never believed in the corn fairies. But if I’m reading this correctly, they are prone to favoritism. In Sark’s case corn squeezens

  8. The hiring of a search firm was always a smoke screen. Haden had his method. It was looking out the window and hiring the person that was closest so he wouldn’t have to walk that far. Of course he always sent his hired help to do the work.

  9. When all is finally said & done about this issue, the bottom line is there wasn’t much care put into a national search. I don’t know how anyone can say otherwise!
