USC Morning Buzz: If It’s Friday, It’s Time For Weekly Notes Column

Notre Dame USC Memorable Games Football

I make my USC-UCLA game prediction and also talk to a former player about the challenge of facing the Bruins and Notre Dame in back-to-back weekends to end the season in 1988. Well, at least when they weren’t both 4-6 and fighting to be bowl eligible.

Full column here.

      • No s’. I didn’t say they were even comparable. I was commenting on Flow’s, “He is not Cody Kessler, capable of playing awful in a big-time situation.” Copy that?

          • Nope. Are you related to Flow?

Your point is taken. But I can still respect him for what he did do and tried to do with some crappy coaches and some crappy times at USC.

  1. 38-17 is a good pick Wolf. They did put up 45 on Utah and 38 on OSU but otherwise kept around 20. I’ll like 50-0 better.

    • We can only hope for another 50-0 drubbing. But that type of thing might only come around once in a lifetime.

        • USC 27-0 over 20th ranked ucla in 2001. USC was 5-5 going into the game. After that the bruin routs came like clockwork. Fun times. Expect another hammer job tomorrow. USC is just too hot, motivated and well equipped with Darnold as the new leader emeritus.

          • That’s right. I knew it was a shut out somewhere along those lines. Troy Polamalu took my younger brother into the SC locker room after the game while they were all celebrating. He was in the 7th grade but he looked like a 4th grader so Troy must’ve thought he was a little kid.

  2. The poor Trolls can’t even bring themselves to predict a little gutty victory at home even though it would probably mean a crap bowl game for them. Things are really grim in Wimpwood these days!

      • Sorry about the Cankles loss. There’s some reality for you! I’m afraid Saturday’s gonna be another unpleasant dose for you bruins, but as they say, that’s why they play the games. I’m sure you’ll be all fired up and coming out of a locker room with 13-9 banners all over the place. That’s where the reality of Darnold will come into play.

        • What is the cankles loss?

SC is the better team. Plain and simply. Usually the better team wins. Not always, but SC is heading upward and UCLA down at the moment. I don’t see an upset. 13-9 was an even longer shot but I doubt lightning strikes twice.

          • My point was not that USC is the better team, which is obvious.

My point is that all the loudmouth Trolls that infest this place with all their cowardly braggadocio and misplaced garbage have all shut up now that the little gutties stink. And make no mistake about it, your team stinks and all your predictions about Rosen-led championships were full of crap and typical of always underachieving bruin football.

You don’t know who Cankles is? Have you been in a cave? I’ll leave it at that.

Good luck on Saturday night. Hope you make a game of it – not really.

          • I would guess that cankles is Hillary but haven’t heard her referred to as that.

And I’ve never seen the point of coming to someone else’s blog and shooting my mouth off. Not really my deal. Good luck on Saturday, not that I mean it either. You don’t need luck. We do.

  3. Kessler does not deserve your bull sshhiitt Wolf. He is a better person than you are. He worked his butt off for USC. Can’t say the same for you. USC fans appreciate alll Kessler tried to do and all he had to endure.
Even your score prediction is way off. You continually amaze us in how you keep a job, but perhaps who you work for explains that.

      • How about them LOU’VILLE OLs? Talk about pitiful. Could end up costing Lamar Jackson the Heisman if he keeps getting sacked. Ya think?

        • Jack, that was the best pass rush game I have seen this season. I don’t know how many O lines could have held up against that. #10 for Houston is a Beast.

          • And HOU even lost their big super frosh, Ed OIiver. When he left the game in the 3rd Q, it made no difference. Amazing outcome.

    • Remember, liberals today are incapable of making sound arguments. They just throw out insults and think it is agood argument.

    • To be fair, Kessler sure was limited.

We should have known that Browne would be a flop if Kessler beat him out 2X.
      No disrespect to Kessler.

  4. USC wins a tight game. Have a feeling USC will be lethargic after last weeks big win and the fact that ucla stinks and has zero to lose, hope that isn’t the case but these are 18-22 year olds.

Just remember, Falawful could be the next Norm Dow or John Barnes tomorrow

  5. Wolf better start watching Cleveland Brown games like I do every Sunday…Cody is going to have a long profitable career in the NFL.

    • My condolences on watching the Browns every Sunday. Kessler could do alright so long as he survives. Not many QBs make it out of Cleveland.

  6. wolfman, you’ve done it AGAIN!!!!

while i am not thrilled with your prediction, i LOVE the fact you chose to do a Ground and Pound on the beloved Cody Kessler JUST to keep the Dummies honest!!!!

sometimes you gotta shoot a hostage to keep your street cred, serio petho, eh, El Lobo Mas Macho????

    #ClassicWolfman

  7. Please also ask about the challenge of dealing with staff reporters in 1988. Well, at least when they knew the difference between a prepositional phrase and a sentence.

  8. Les Miles is telling people that if he lands the Purdue job he intends on bringing Steve Sarkisian as his Offensive Coordinator. Sark would be the “principal play-caller” and Mike Locksley would be run game coordinator.

  9. Calling my shot early this week. UCLA’s rope-a-dope running game strategy comes to fruition as the five-headed monster delivers a ball control offense that chews up yardage and clock. Defense does just enough to frustrate Darnald.

    UCLA 13
    SCCC 9

PS – I hear John Barnes and Bruce Davis are leading the team out of the tunnel tomorrow.

  10. I’m not into predicting points. What I want to see Saturday is for the Trojans to show no mercy. Pound the Bruins for all four quarters, no matter what the point differential is. Just like the UW game showed what the team is made of, destroying your hapless opponents also shows the team’s identity.

  11. I predict there will be no one to protect the middle of the field when the TMB takes the field, because nobody cares.
I predict the victory bell will not need a new coat of paint.
I expect a win. I want a win. And that’s just from the halftime shows.

  12. Not sure, Scott Wolf, UCLA can score 17 points on this defense if Washington couldn’t. That doesn’t mean some USC players won’t get emotional playing their childhood friends and let them score….
