USC Morning Buzz: Are Adoree Jackson and JuJu Smith-Schuster Playing Final Coliseum Game?

adoree-jujuUSC plays its final home game Saturday and it could be the last time Adoree Jackson and JuJu Smith-Schuster play a college game at the Coliseum, if they turn pro after the season. I look at this issue in this analysis and how it might affect USC.

Excerpt: It might be easier to replace Smith-Schuster simply because quarterback Sam Darnold doesn’t seem to care who he throws to and just finds whoever is open. Jackson is an entirely different matter, however, because the Trojans are inconsistent at cornerback once you get past him.

  1. Like most teams, you lose players and reload each season. Part of college football. As we have seen improvement in AJ and Biggy, we will see improvement in other DB’s that wish to step up. Another doom and gloom article by Wolf.

  2. What I worry about this week is Notre Dame. Then wherever the chips fall with bowl games comes next.
The four year contract signed by a high school kid is the least of the teams worries right now. In the end this discussion is just a distraction.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of the blog regulars and our trolls everywhere.

  3. Let’s put a can of whoop on the Irish and see where we land. Finishing in the top 10 would be a great statement for a program than literally looked dead in the water until Oct.

With a big game Saturday. maybe Adoree wins the Thorpe. He sure is a gamer and hopefully has passed along some of his excellent work ethic and competitive nature to the younger players.

  4. I might be brining on the hate here, but is Adoree really irreplaceable at CB? He is an exceptional athlete and contributes big time at all 3 phases (no need to recap), but I don’t consider him a true “shut down” corner. Great college player? No doubt. First round NFL pick? For sure. Dominant corner? I would need some convincing. He comes up big but also gets beat at times by top talent receivers.

    • He’s beatable because of his size and for that reason I don’t see him as a first rounder. But like Darnold, he’s immune from being haunted by negative plays and has a spirit about him that foreshadows big plays.

But I can’t seem to be able to find any so-called shut down corners. I wonder if any actually exist as it seems more like a CFB urban legend in today’s passing game world.

      • All good points. I’m certainly not taking anything away from Adoree who is a true Trojan on and off the field. I just, as usual, don’t agree with SW’s doomsday view of the world. Adoree is an excellent corner, but not irreplaceable and looking forward to seeing what JJ and others can do.

        • I just hope Adoree makes consensus AA. I think he deserves that – at least as a special teamer.

  5. Adoree is a true talent. He’s living up to the bill of one of the greats at USC. In my opinion the best Corner SC has had since Brian Kelly or Daylon McCutcheon. Maybe even better. He gave up just 1 TD in his true freshman season. Went through the “Sophomore slump” last season. And has bested two All American caliber WR’S this season in Alabama’s Calvin Ridley and Washington’s John Ross. Even the Richard Sherman’s and Joe Haden’s get beat, but they come back and make plays. That’s what Adoree is for USC, a playmaker. We’re lucky to have had him for three seasons. Juju also. Anything more would be a bonus. Pete Carroll never landed a Corner like Adoree Jackson. They don’t come along that often. He’s a baller.

  6. Although Adoree Jackson has great speed, and quickness, he still needs to prove he can be physical..IMO

    • A Ronnie Lott he is not and I do agree Fred, although he has been a lot of fun to watch, the physical part of his game is what will hold him down in this years nfl draft.

      • Yes he is small but most corners are. But the NFL is a passing league. Adoree’s stock has risen. His leaping ability is off the charts and a 4.3/40 yard dash is too much to pass up for NFL GM’s.

        • Deon Sanders got away with not being physical, because of his athleticism, and speed, so we shall see.

          • Adoree is a starting corner in the NFL in my opinion. Shutdown CB? We will have to wait and see if NFL coaching elevates him to that level. Like the one and dones in college basketball we are lucky to have kids like Adoree for three full seasons. As good as he’s been we’ll be fine if he chooses to move on. Have a good one Fred!

          • Nickell Robey made it to the next level and Jackson is better than him. He is a good football player, with great sportsmanship and even better athlete. He’ll go down as a ‘best in the decade Athlete’ for a college football team.

          • Well said. I agree. If he’s not an All American at CB he’s and All American ATH. They focused on the match up between him and Ridley and he shut him down. They did the same thing with John Ross and he came away with 2 INTS. He’s stepped it up.

    • The lack of physical play is the only thing that will prevent him from being successful in the NFL.

      • Just like lack of arm strength is the only thing that prevents Kessler from being a successful QB in the NFL.

Just like all the murder around the southern cal campus keeps it from being a safe school.

    • Go eat a whole lot, take a nap, come back for desert. I hope we all take a few minutes to remember the things we have to thankful for and this nation that takes a day to do it. Happy Thanksgiving brothers and sisters. Fight On.

  7. According to sources, Adoree Jackson will return for his 4th year because of his girlfriend at southern cal begged him to stay. Juju on the other hand is flunking out of his classes and has no choice but to enter the NFL draft.

  8. Scottie is pretty dismissive of Jack Jack. I, on the other hand, think he’s going to be a star at DB.

  9. It would be great to have Jackson come back next season, but I understand the finances involved. You have to take care of yourself and family. He is truly a special talent.

  10. “Neither Jackson nor Smith-Schuster would raise their draft stock with another season of college football”
Says who? Ah yes, up and coming NFL scout Scott Wolf

  11. Hope they stay to compete for the national title next year. This is why Helton brought in 5 receivers lat year. We might lose 4 or 5.
