Here’s USC tailback Anthony Davis celebrating a touchdown during the famous 55-24 victory over Notre Dame in 1974. USC trailed 24-6 at halftime.

  1. AD scored 11 TDs on the Irish in 3 games.

“We turned into madmen,” he said about the ND comeback.

I watched the game on TV with friends while living off campus on Ellendale in my first year of law school. You could hear the roar of the Coli crowd from far away and into my living room after the first AD runback which signaled the end of…”It’s been an Irish afternoon,” in the immortal words of Tom Kelly.

Looking forward to some new memories on Saturday.

    • That game was so magical….Seldom in sport do you see such incredible momentum..Yet it seemed to happen in slow motion, which is how many of the great runners see the field.
      Work of Sports Art..

    • That was a magical game, following the 24-0 start. One for a Hollywood script. AD was amazing in that game, and in the other games against ND. I am sorry to have seen that he had so much trouble in life afterwards.

    • I was there with my little brother on the north side of the Coli just above the student section. I was fifteen years old–any doubt about where I would go to college was removed that day! What an electric atmosphere that day! The third quarter was amazing!

I felt we had finally exorcised the devil of 51-0 in 1966. I was there to see that in person also–not so good!

    • I was sitting in the north east section and two Irish clowns were jawing. After AD scored the td just before the end of the first half, I told those two that AD will come out and run it back and that sc would come back and win. They looked at me like I was weird. Sure enough, AD did run it back and I turned around and told them the game is over and nd lost. Later when USC scored all those points, the Irish Clowns were no where to be found. Tom Kelly was roaring, the crowd was moving, the old grey lady was swaying, traveler was running, the band was playing, and the place was in just rocking. I have never experienced all of that since. Greatest game of all time. To this day I still say the Colisuem moved an inch north from all of the mayhem. God is is a Trojan.

  2. Seemed so hopeless down 0-24. I remember a shot of a gorgeous song girl on TV shedding tears and it wasn’t even halftime, Woody Hayes doing color alongside Keith Jackson
