USC 78, SMU 73

Bennie Boatwright scored 17 points to lead the Trojans at the Galen Center. The crowd (3,713) was actually bigger than the 2,700 at Wednesday’s game. The USC band was a no show, however, apparently practicing for the football game tomorrow. USC is 5-0.

UPDATED: Freshman guard De’Anthony Melton (career-high 15 points) said after the game the Trojans can be better than last year’s NCAA Tournament team despite the loss of key players.

“Coach says who cares if they left?” Melton said. “If we play as a team, we’ll be better than them. I think others (doubted us) but we were always strong on ourselves.”

Freshman guard Jonah Mathews added a career-high 14 points.

  1. SMU & A&M aren’t exactly the patsies in the non-conference that your narrative would suggest. Sorry! Maybe they’ll lose for you in conference? Melton is a killer, btw. We may have upgraded from the players who left.

  2. He points out the small crowd and the absent band but fails to talk about the significance in the win and progress of the team. What a tool.

    • Sam Bam and LamontRaymond, where are the STATS of this significant Trojan BB victory ? Wolfman, a dag gum 24/7 Tool, a dag gum 24/7 Fool.

      • He has nothing to say because he doesn’t pay attention. If he did he would have mentioned true freshman DeAnthony Melton’s 15 points. Don McLean wouldn’t stop talking about how good he is all game but SW says nothing.

        • Also fails to mention it’s a holiday weekend with most students away from campus and it’s no secret the basketball team needs student support. Unlike football, it doesn’t get much support from the community at large.

    • Sounds like Andyain’twinning is PO’d the 6 player’s deserted his BB program. He must not be as respected as he thinks he should be.

      • He’s respected was earned by whipping your little team 3 times last year. Are you off of suicide watch?

  3. Enfield’s 3rd year will be the test and step necessary to elevate this dormant program – let’s go!

  4. Hopefully, our hoops boys will keep winning without fizzling out to wow some people at the campus. Then, and only then will they make fools out of ourselves not to have given them the righteous amount of attention! Fight On!

  5. CHARLIE STRONG IS OFFICIALLY DONE IN TEXAS.. CLOSING IN ON TOM HERMAN…DEAL SHOULD BE DONE TOMORROW IN THE AM. COACH O IS LSU’s NEW HEAD COACH! ✌

  6. Centennial got f*cked by the Officials. They had that 1st down. The refs gave them a poor spot when they clearly had the 1st down. St. John Bosco escapes with some luck.

    • Perhaps, those zebras got some pocket money from them. I just don’t have my complete trust in zebras at all levels. Never have and never will.

        • I lost all trust in the referees when they stole the Notre Dame from us in 1989 with a ridiculous spotting of the ball after Todd Marinovich had clearly gained a first down late in the game.

    • At least John Jackson pointed it out on the broadcast. It was highway robbery. Centennial would have scored and won.

  7. Same here. That particular game is by far the darkest in my memory for all the nightmarish reasons.

      • Know what? If anyone would want to torture me with the most excruciating pains, one of the methods would be to force me to watch the fourth quarter of that game. And oh, that part where the replay equipment “failed” when Young’s knee was down but not called.

        • The Ting brother dropping that INT hurt. And the Longhorns going at Cushing was torture, he looked like a freshman in that game. The lateral before halftime. My God, Young was great in that game but we sure threw away some opportunities. Torture for sure.

          • No question about that. That game looked to be a sure win until the last moments of the game when zebras kept calling a penalty after another as Young kept coming towards the goal line. Wow, here comes that sick feeling in my stomach again! LOL!

          • Last, but not least, I also remember the bewildered look on Carroll’s face in the final minutes of that game. OK, let’s not torture ourselves any further now! LOL!

          • We’ll get over it soon. We should win tomorrow. Hopefully Colorado goes down and we play UW for a shot at the Rose Bowl.

          • Let’s hope for the best, Sam. With Darnold, we’ve found ourselves hoping for a bright future ahead. It’d be more than fantastic to see our team win another NC or two before Darnold leaves for the NFL.

          • I think he’s the QB with the ability to get us there. We should be tougher next season and on fire. We’re leaving at 4am for the Coliseum. Had some some relatives in and thought I wasn’t gonna be able to make it out tomorrow but they left this evening instead of Saturday. Gonna try and get some kind of sleep.
            Fight On Bro!
            Beat the Irish!

          • Lucky you, bro! I’m sure you’ll have a blast, and be laughing aloud towards the end of the game! I’m hoping for a big day for us from other games, too. Fight On!

          • USC should be preseason Top 3 next year regardless of whether Utah delivers for us today. We are back where USC belongs, building for national title runs.

          • I agree with you. We should be ranked that high preseason next year. The most important factor, however, will be the health of our QB. I’m always nervous about that because the team would be very much average without him. Don’t mean to discredit others in the team, but it’s an undeniable truth.

          • I think Utah will give CO all they can handle today. Butwill the UW team that destroyed WSU show up for the playoff or the mediocrity that we dominated relatively easily? After watching pathetic UA run for 500 yards on ASU it appears anyone can beat anyone in the Pac 12 in a given week.

          • We need Utah to do us a favor. I just hope we keep focus on our own ball game and not get distracted.

          • UW and USC are the class of the PAC-12 but UW and CU will play for the title because the Trojans screwed the pooch early on.

        • To me the worst is the play at the end when Reggie Bush looks on forlornly from the sideline while LenDale gets stuffed. You knew our defense was gassed so the game was lost. Yet you watch hoping against hope for a miracle.

  8. The TWO HEADED Monster of Kiffin and Sark are being strong candidates to replace Herman in Houston. Kiffin as HC and Sark as OC ..
