UCLA Fires Kennedy Polamalu

Former USC player/assistant coach Kennedy Polamalu was fired today as UCLA offensive coordinator and will not return to the school. It’s a tough break for Polamalu, who longed to call plays and got into a famous argument/altercation with Lane Kiffin at the Sun Bowl about his duties. Polamalu was always immensely popular with his players wherever he coached.

  1. I hate when they blame the assistant coaches for the short comings of the head coach. Doesn’t the head coach have an overarching control of the team? So why is the scapegoat always an assistant?
Unless we are talking USC then we go straight to the top.

    • Pola was awful … very dumb hire. Coaches need to know their limitations , that is why Gomer stayed a no name assistant for so long … he was more surprised than anyone when the idiot Haden offered him a HC gig

  2. I’m happy for Palomalu. He is too good of a man to be at that fire in the dumpster program. His son is on school over there. I hope Mora doesn’t play games in the boy. I hope coach lands a better job than tat dump called ugly

    • If Miles had done the smart thing and replaced his OC, he might still be coaching the Tigers today. Of course, maybe his tenure had just run its course.

    • I don’t think Mora had any choice – Mora may not and is not a great coach but Polamalu seemed from the get go to be in the wrong position – he showed little to no skill as an OC.

  3. Good RB Coach, but probably not an OC. He’ll land somewhere as an RB Coach again.

  4. The Bruins think Sark could be coming to UCLA. He would turn them back into a spread team but say they will be physical and a pro-spread offense. They should avoid Sark. I don’t remember SC being tough with Sark at all. Remember Thursday night at the Coliseum against Washington???

    • I would love to see Sark at ucla. Would add even more fuel to the fire and get him as far away from SC as you can go and still be only 12 miles away. Please make this happen.

      • even if a coach , however weak a moment he is having , wanted to hire Snark , doubtful any college prez or BOT would allow having a drug and booze addict that was getting stoned during games and before practice near their athletes … one that then sued the school that justly fired his dumb arse.

        • Ed O used to be a raving, dangerous drunk.

Lots of out-of-control boozers give it up and get straight when their life is on the line like Sark’s is.

Why would he continue drinking if he knows that means he’s out of coaching for good and he has to be a telemarketer? He’s had his 2nd chance. No reason to think he’s a lost cause at his age.

He’s probably a good OC and better than Pola – who also drinks too much. At least he used to.

        • I agree – Sarkisian is justifiably radioactive – he not only blew the house (USC ob) down he also burned the bridge (lawsuit).

      • I’m sure Sarkisian has something in the works, or else he wouldn’t have given his ex wife as much as he did. Coaches shake hands under the table all the time, before the media gets even gets wind of it

        • People were on here, led by SW, saying Sark got taken to the shed in his settlement. Wrong. With spousal and child support gone, the earnings are all his now. His lawyer knew the value of his client’s potential assets and where Sark’s connections would lead.

      • Keep all the fired coaches away from us and the Pac12. We don’t need any more failed ball coaches who have revenge on their minds like Kiffin

    • Steve Sarkisian, and Lane Kiffen need one more shot before the covers are totally peeled back on those two frauds . They both have been privileged to be associated with schools that have loads of talent. And although Sarkisian did raise Washington out of the ashes, he really had no place to go, but up at the time. I’m looking forward to Kiffen getting his next head coaching gig, because I doubt it will be at a established university, and he will be challenged for the first time in his college coaching career

    • You truly are obsessed with The Kiffer. He’s so far in your head, it must feel pretty crowded in there.

      • Different AD who I think is a no nonsense type. I think Seann would listen to Polamalu. Doesn’t mean USC hires him m, but at least listen to him

      • Ummmm… better tell Robo John Robinson that.

Or Hackett, Mike Reilly, Pendergast, etc.. all were with SC more than once

        • Amen he left the program with that scandal after 1981 and then shazaam there he is again engineering Smith’s departure and McGee’s after the 1992 season.

        • They did not punch an fellow employee.. Per a conversation.. Nikias will not sign off on him as a rehire..

  5. UCLA always hires coaches that were immensely successful at USC and turns them into failures that are blamed for the failures of their head coach. Norm Chow’s firing got CRN an extra year, hopefully Mora gets mora than that on the back of Polamalu.
