Joe McKnight Update

There has been considerable controversy today about the release of the man who shot Joe McKnight being released and not charged.

“In this state, there are some relative statutes that provide defenses to certain crimes,” Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said.

Ronald Gasser, the man who shot McKnight, could still be charged. Normand, who tried to assure the media there was no racial bias regarding the case, said McKnight was raised by a someone who worked in the shefiff’s office.

  1. An unarmed man is killed by a man with a gun. He was shot THREE times. The shooter is released and not charged. They say wait for the investigation, but the optics are horrible. If a black man shot an unarmed white man, would he be released this quick?

    RIP Joe McKnight

      • Agreed. Not sure how you can release a guy who was seen standing over somebody saying “I told you don’t F with me” and then finishing him off. Kind of hard to see how he was defending himself. But none of us have the whole picture yet. At this point, it is hard to believe he had anything close to this coming to him.

        RIP, Joe.

        • Reports are the man fired from inside his car as Joe was at the passenger window. He did not fire while standing over him. Still wait for the details. Sad, sad, sad.

        • This is for football discussions, if you have something else in mind, I’m not the one.

        • These posers don’t care about that. They just like inflaming race relations like their leader Barack Obama. They live for an incident like this and will ignore the murder of a USC professor because the assailant used a knife instead of a gun. It doesn’t fit their narrative that America is an evil racist country full of dishonest police and the citizens must be disarmed.

          • Then where are all the comments by you and Uncle Liberal about the USC professor who was knifed to death on campus?

          • Marv I don’t come here for political commentary and don’t claim to represent anyone else. I commented on Joe because I am a fan, did the prof ball? I own guns and have since I was young. When I traveled on the job I had a unlimited license to carry a concealed weapon, so I don’t have a problem with self defense. People that know me wouldn’t call me liberal.

          • You are FOS Goux. You have your head so far up your kazoo you mental capacity is less than an intestinal parasite.

Just because I voted for Obama, in your tiny mind, I think all cops are “dishonest” and I don’t care that a bozo u Professor is knifed to death on campus. The noun Asinine when applied to you Goux is a compliment

          • Goux don’t go nowhere w/o his hogleg Colt .44 Mag. Hogleg goux don’t believe in small exit wounds.

    • You have no idea what happened. You are jumping to conclusions before the investigation is even over. You are reporting things that have been proven false. Let it play out before you go off half cocked. And stick your race card up your a%%

  2. I remember sitting at a bar with Lendalel white before the USC Virginia game in Charlottesville and asking Lendale who his favorite running back was on that team mine was the A-Train his was Smoking Joe Midnight – rest in peace Joe you’ll be missed

  3. The fact that “McKnight was raised by a someone who worked in the shefiff’s office” has nothing to do with whether or not racial bias is involved.

This sort of specious reasoning is what makes them appear even more suspicious.

  4. Scott, please rewrite this “report” such that we can easily understand the details and your interpretation. Your English is stilted.

  5. This is what happens in stand your ground states. The only other person that knows what really happened it dead. This guy is claiming self defence. If the reports are true, Joe was unarmed, he was shot multiple times and the last shot the guy was standing over Joe, it’s murder.

        • I don’t think that’s what Fred is saying. This guy did get into his car with a gun. The Sheriff reported Joe was not armed. The Sheriff reported the man fired multiple shots and Joe was hit more than 1 time. So at some point he formed intent.

      • Just saw that. Reports are now that he was firing from inside his vehicle. The sheriff has said Joe was not armed.

          • If you come here to get informed, that’s on you. Marv this place is run by the lest informed “sports reporter” in college football. Relax.

          • And if not? Why can;t you liberals wait until the facts are in before spewing your nonsense?

  6. Question is why was Mcknight out of his car?

I don’t own a pistol, but the shooter, aged 54, did. If McKnight ( I don’t know McKnight’s size) was angry and threatened to kick the shooter a**, there are few on this blog that would allow that happen if armed with a “legal” pistol.

Did McKnight deserve to die, I think not, but it happened. That’s the tragedy.

    • JustOwns, what you said makes sense to me. i have a concealed permit to carry but I do not keep a weapon in my vehicle unless I leave town. Some of the stuff I have to put up with on the streets of the my city really light me up.

      • As a gun owner, answer me this; why must you use a gun to protect yourself? An a** kicking isn’t pleasant, but you’ll walk away from it 99% of the time (assuming you lose the physical altercation). Why is everybody so afraid to knuckle up? Fighting is dumb, but at least it’s not a zero sum game. I know you said you leave your gun at home, but I just don’t see the reasoning behind having a concealed permit unless you really have a stalker or a constant threat along those lines.

        • Why would you assume an assailant isn’t carrying a weapon? Why be a victim? Do you honestly think the police will come save you? Would you tell your daughter to lay back and take it instead of carrying a weapon to stop a rapist? Would you tell your daughter she shouldn’t be afraid to “knuckle up”? I don’t see your reasoning to allow evil people to terrorize and have their way with you and your family.

          • The odds of being a victim of crime are incredibly low. The odds of being a victim of gun related crime are even lower. I guess I’ll just play the odds. Your comparison of rape is ubsurd, but I’ll play along. For one, women are far more likely to be victims of sexual assault than you or I are to be victims of gun violence. Now, assuming I was concerned enough; I would enroll my daughter in self-defense classes and give her some pepper spray.

          • Maybe they are where you live in some gated high income area walled off and separated from real America.

          • Please define “real” America for me so I can figure out if I live there or not.

          • Uncle Rice, you just libelled marvgoux1. “If it moves shoot it” is not his motto, not even close. You must be infatuated with Ms Hillary’s false accusations aimed at sensible men who alone are the Foundation of our Great Country. Shame on you, Uncle Rice.

          • Uncle Liberal is blaming the NRA for the knife attack on the professor on campus last night.

          • You can save your lectures about the odds of being a victim of a crime now that a USC professor was knifed to death on campus last night.

        • You don’t know enough about my life to know what you are talking about. In fact, you don’t know me at all. To chastise me for earning a concealed carry permit without specific justification convinces me you are nothing more than a prejudicial FOOL, known today as a Democrat who votes.

          • It’s funny how Democrats like President Obama and Hillary Clinton always claim to be non-judgemental yet they are so quick to make snap judgements instead of waiting for all the evidence to come in and they demonize those who disagree with them as being Deplorables.

          • I was genuinely asking to understand the circumstances that caused you to get a concealed permit if you were willing to share. I asked to understand because I honestly don’t. Didn’t mean to come off as chastising. My apologies if I did.

        • I bet that USC professor wishes he had a gun last night when the student came at him with a knife. Do you see the reasoning behind having a concealed permit NOW or are you beyond reason?

  7. Take the gun out the situation, and the worst thing that happens is two groan men look like idiots, and somebody gets a beat down. Add a gun; one person is needlessly taken and the other has to live with taking a life over a traffic dispute. “Tough guys” with guns make internet trolls look like Rambo.

  8. I recall that video when the police were administering CPR to Joe that there was a hysterical woman yelling at the cops.

Now we find out that these “witnesses” lied. The shooter did not leave his car, all 3 of his cartridges were found inside his vehicle

The coroner determined that the shooter was not “standing over” Joe as a witness claimed. The shooter was at a lower level than Joe, sitting in his car.

When a “witness” claimed that Joe was apologizing, that did not ring true. Joe is out of his car, in a rage, and I am sure he intimidated the shooter.

Another “witness” contends the shooter said something like “I told you not to f—with me.” That did not ring true either. I am sure this happened in a matter of seconds, and how were “witnesses” going to hear a man speaking inside his vehicle?

The “witnesses” were trying to get the Honky. But thank God they were not racists.

    • It’s a good thing we have the always honest police to clarify all this. It’s especially good this happened in Louisiana. Everybody knows Louisiana is a state that is synonymous with honesty and integrity.

      • That’s interesting logic: you side against the police, yet you go around defenseless and expect them to protect you.

        • Not against the police or the witnesses. I was equally skeptical of the initial witness reports.

          • Your sarcasm was very obvious that you don’t trust the police. Why then would you expect these dishonest people to save you? You of all people should defend yourself and not rely on those crooked cops.

          • I’m not trying to be saved by anybody. There are just certain situations that just suck and there’s no saving us. That’s just a reality of life. Are my choices really reduced to believing 100% of what police say or 100% of what some over emotional witnesses say? Is it okay to just accept I don’t know one way or the other, at least for the moment?

          • So are you coming out for knife control now that a USC professor was stabbed to death on campus by a student?

        • Saul Goodman: And what is it that is so dishonest about Louisiana. I go there quite a bit, the people I meet are among the best most honest I have ever known.

          • Not the general populous, all their state institutions are notoriously corrupt. Well documented. Just read a history or civics book about the state. Not exactly a secret.

          • Well they were a Democrat Party dominated state for 100 years after the Civil War and we know Democrat institutions are hotbeds of racism and corruption. But thankfully they have reformed since those dark days and even elected an Indian-American as their governor.

    • It’s interesting that the same people who believed Barack Obama’s judgement against the policeman who arrested the college professor who was breaking into his home after he locked himself, believed in Trayvon Martin, The Gentle Giant and the Baltimore drug dealer death while in the police paddy wagon now jump to the same conclusions before waiting for the evidence to come in.,

    • Got to remember where it all happened. Louisiana has some of the oldest and most archaic laws in the US. What we think normal here in CA is not even close in LA.

  9. Just roll up your window and drive away. Only shoot back. This guy took a life for what?

  10. Breaking news! A professor at southern cal has been stabbed and killed Friday afternoon on campus.

    #cantmakethisstuffup

      • What is wrong with you? Just a few months back it was a UCLA campus, were you so insensitive then? My guess would be you attended neither, in fact I would guess you have a HS education and maybe some JC classes.

  11. I’m a gun owner. No one is bigger on the right to reasonably defend yourself.

If you are in you car, drive away. Roll up the window.

And if you pull out a gun that is the point, to deter someone so you can get away, not shoot unarmed people.

There is no excuse whatsoever for this. I have no idea why anyone who got out of that state would be there except for a quick vacation to NoLa.

  12. SOME people are so biased, it interferes with their thinking, too often. There is no reason to hold someone if evidence shows self defense, fear for their life, etc… the investigation is continuing and regardless of your emotion and lack of thinking others in charge will proceed under the microscope , abundantly applied by the media and YOU.
