Latest Bowl Talk

darnold-colorado-2Anyone who tells you they know who the Rose Bowl will take really doesn’t, especially when the College Football Playoff rankings still need to be done. It is interesting that bowl guru Jerry Palm is stubbornly hanging on to the idea that Colorado will go to the Rose Bowl, which is against many others. Maybe he’s like the guy who picked Donald Trump to win the election.

  1. Palm is an idiot. When SC spanked Washington, who in turn demolished CU (a team USC dispatched without issue), you don’t put that CU team in the Rose. It’s nonsensical.

  2. Jerry Palm is Wolf’s guru. The fact he got the election right was do to his SWAG system he uses to predict things. Everyone is right once in a while.

  3. Don’t be so quick to dismiss idea that CU will go to the Rose Bowl. The committee can do almost anything they want in ranking the teams. They should put SC ahead of CU, but it is not a slam dunk they will.

  4. SW desperately doesn’t want USC to get into the Rose Bowl yet again. Not now! That would just blow up his entire anti-SC agenda.

He’s terrified and likening Fox’s Hannity to Palm as he clings to some small hope that SC will have to go to Texas and play in another great bowl. Cracks me up. SW is in complete torture now.

We all know SC is best suited for the Rose. If CU gets it, it’ll have to be by sympathy vote. Could happen I suppose, but with their always-injured QB, they’ll get killed again. It’ll just be like giving a victory to the Big Ten if the Buffs are picked.

    • Colorado could get in because they will sell hotel rooms in Pasadena. Trojans would show up in big numbers, but may not fill the city coffers like the Buffs. We will see.

      • Entirely possible, as I’ve said before here.

It’ll just be bad for the PAC because CU is a great story but only a good team and not ready for the big stage by any stretch. Heck, the Buffs have even already lost to MICH.

With CU in it, the Rose Bowl instantly becomes one of the least interesting bowls in the nation. If that’s what the RB Committee wants, then a lot of us will be laughing, not crying. You can lead a horse to water…but can’t make them drink it.

        • One never knows. SC has earned a good bowl game. Future looks bright.

Back to history. UCLA back to basketball.

          • I don’t care about basketball. I went to a football school. That’s where we butter our bread, with Heismans, Roses, NCs and elite players. Any hoops success is unexpected and never too great.

Congrats on your team though. You guys should go a long way. Your one-and-dones are crazy!

          • It was an entertaining game. I suspect their D needs to improve. I would guess Penn State coming out to Pasadena against SC or Colorado. SC is a more interesting game because of history and tradition, plus SC being a hot team. Tomorrow will be interesting.

    • SW’s dream matchup: SC vs WI—if SC wins he will blame Wilcox & if WI wins he blames Helton. His nightmare is also a scary possibility–if Sam has a great game he would have to choose between his uunabashed man crush for Sam or his irrational hatred for Wilcox. Either way he will diminish any accomplishment by SC.

      • SW was scarred badly as a child, hence all the ridiculous drama. I feel sorry for the guy. Pitiful weirdism.

        • A pathological inability to admit ever being wrong , while simultaneously banging unmercifully everyone for any shortcoming they may have ever experienced. Always hiding behind–“it is not my job to be a fan or a homer”. He contributes very little of substance to this blog; if it wasn’t for the participants Inside USC would be a wasteland.

        • I really believe the movie “Joe Dirt” was based on the Blogger’s life. Here’s the brief description:

“He’s the wrong person, at the wrong place, at the wrong time. Joe Dirt (David Spade) is a janitor with a mullet hairdo, acid-washed jeans and a dream — to find the parents that he lost at the Grand Canyon when he was eight.”

OK, the mullet has long since been washed down the shower drain, but otherwise seems plausible.

    • Wisconsin or Penn St, whichever one wins the conf. title would be the appropriate team in the RB. USC, having the same record as CU but having beat them already would be the logical pick to the RB. If USC is in it will be a good game, let MI go to a lesser bowl. Harbaugh needs to be humbled a little anyway. Like, what’s your deal.

    • Your last sentence is what concerns. The Big Ten lobbyists on the Committee may push for Colorado.

      • The RB committee takes the teams after the PO committee selects their final poll, so if USC is above CU in the final poll, that should give them the shot into the RB. Should!!

  5. I think you’re forgetting the main objective of Bowl games – to make boatloads of money. USC in the Rose Bowl will make 10x what Colorado would bring in. You don’t think the Rose Bowl selection committee is krapping bricks right now?

  6. Stopped by the BYU vs bozo u TV BB game and Staples Ctr. is virtually empty, couldn’t believe it.

Turns out BYU vs bozo u is the 2nd banana game following the featured Arizona/Gonzaga 2:30 game. No wonder nobody is there.

Andyain’twinning gets absolutely zero respect and empty seats.

  7. BYU basketball player #12 is more concerned with his hair than winning the actual game.

  8. We ended up with the 2nd ranked defense in the Pac 12, 1st against the rush, and the top ranked offense in the Pac 12. Congratulations and Fight On!

    • That’s why I say USC is a lot more physical than people give us credit for.

      Fight On for Roses!

      • Jack, if our OLine can FINALLY play a game without penalties we can beat Wisconsin, Michigan. The DLINE is improved but the only glaring problem during our current run has been penalties that stall drives. For the most part its been all of them
Two 5th year senior Offensive Tackles, two true Juniors who have basically been stating since the first month of their freshman season. And Falah who has actually played beyond anyone’s expectations. We can’t expect to beat a team that plays on the strength of of their OL and DL with little false starts here and there. Putting Darnold in long yardage situations will hurt us against these good disciplined defrense. If we play clean ball i dont see how we cant move the chains all game.

        • I’m assuming our OL can finally have its act together by bowl time. If that’s not possible, I hope SW rips into SC football.

The WIS/PSU game is crazy good. Have no idea who will win this one. Could be our eventual opponent.

      • Glad theres one person on this blog that realize’s USC has a physical OL. Can’t win football games without one.

  9. Moxk him (SW) if you will – jackie B hubba hubba – but where else can we go to post our thoughts and reactions to all things Troy?

Answer – no where sooo enjoy the Scottchester and ignore the clowns –

    • Yup, and if PA St. holds on I doubt they’ll knock OH St. out sooo welcome to Pasadena

  10. Someone posted a link to the Pac 12 Conference guide which stated that in the event of the conference champion going to the playoffs, the Rose Bowl will select the highest ranked Pac 12 team to go to the “Grand Daddy of them all”.

So, by that rule, if Colorado is ranked higher than USC, it’s the Buffs; otherwise, it’s the Trojans.

  11. Still scratching my head on Stevie Tu’ikolovatu being left off the PAC 12 All Conference Team.

  12. Those of us who picked Mr. Trump to win the election enabled him to win the election. Anyone who refers to Jerry Palm as a guru is in need of a wake-up call.

  13. SC earned the Roses, but that means zero when one sees ohio state at #2…it is all politics…hope they get votes

  14. Colorado lost by like 31 points to the team that lost by double to the Trojans at home. Trojans beat Colorado. Colorado hasn’t beaten anybody. Colorado and USC have the same record. USC has all the tie-breakers. Is this really up for discussion? The Big-10 is the one I can’t figure out. Ohio St. is in the college football playoff but they didn’t even win their division. That makes no sense.
