Why Not Adoree?

The Heisman Trophy announced its finalists: Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Jabrill Peppers, Deshaun Watson and Dede Westbrook. So the one-week campaign for Adoree Jackson fell short.

    • That would have gone over well- “hey guys, we lost 52-6 but Adoree played great defense!” …More Dr. Rachel Maddow of Inside USC logic.

  1. Step 1 was getting this team to win games. Promoting singular players was way down the list.

  2. OK. so Daniel Green of Portland has de-committed. Does anyone have any insight as to why?

  3. Blame the late starting and/or night games.

Part of a Heisman campaign is exposure and having USC games that started close to 10 PM EST does not help West Coast players at all.

Another West Coast guy who should have been in the mix is SDSU’s running back, Donnel Pumphrey. He is a 2,000 yard rusher this year and has already passed 6,000 yards rushing for his career. He might have deserved an invite more than Adoree.

But the game times kill West Coast players.

  4. Sorry, but I still cannot forget Adoree not defending the winning touchdown against Utah, and hence losing a chance for SC to reach the Final-4.

    • One play doesn’t loose a football game. He’s a gamer who came up big, to save the day, more often than not. I’m sure he remembers that play too

    • Just a reminder though, he also ran one back 100 yds for a TD that game, and had two PDs and 7 solo tackles. So you could argue they wouldn’t have even been in it if not for AJ too. Real problem on that last drive was playing prevent defense, a PI call on 3rd and long by Biggie, and blitzing only once the entire series. To be fair to Clancy and to Biggie, they have both adjusted and gotten much better all season long. Happy to say I have not seen the stupid prevent since, and was totally expecting in both the CU and UW games at the end.

  5. Love Adorre, great player and seems like a great guy, but if you think he deserved to be in the finals for Heisman you are clearly jaded. The award is for the body of work – the whole season – not a few, unbelievable, late season performances.

  6. The QBs are to be expected, since it tends to be a QB award. But why Peppers and not Adoree? And two Sooners from the mighty mighty Big 12? Anyway, no one on this list is that impressive. Would of just been fun to debate who is the better utility knife, AJ or JP.

  7. It is crazy that the Athletic Department does not have one employee who is solely responsible for the Heisman promotion of our players. It is insane to ignore the fact that PROMOTION, PROMOTION, PROMOTION is what gets your guy into the minds of Heisman voters. This should be a lesson learned, and hopefully the campaign starts now for Darnold or Juju (if he returns) for next year. One of the biggest travesties of all was that Anthony Davis was not promoted by the university for the Heisman. McKay barely tolerated the guy, because of his running skills, but was incensed that Davis was dating his daughter, and McKay did not like that. Davis should have won the Heisman.
