Adoree Jackson Awards Update

adoree-notre-dame-2016-2Michigan’s Jabril Peppers won the Hornung Award, presented to the “most versatile player in college football.” I actually thought this was Adoree Jackson’s best chance to win an award.

He remains a finalist for the Lott Trophy and will attend the ceremony Sunday with Clay Helton when it is given out. Among the other finalists are Peppers and Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen.

  1. SW forgets the Thorpe Award (nation’s best DB) announced tomorrow. Three finalists:

    Adoree’ Jackson, USC
    Jourdan Lewis, Michigan
    Tre’Davious White, LSU

Mark Carrier also won this award while other semi-finalists have been Troy Polamalu and Taylor Mays.

    • The three Trojan Safetys you listed give credence to the idea that Adoree may be the best Cornerback USC has had.

      • For sure Adoree picks up either the Lott or Thorpe awards.

Adoree’s surely one of SC’s all-time competitors at any position and I think he is the Trojans’ best special teamer ever. He can be beat at corner, but he’ll make you pay for it and I can’t remember the last time I saw a USC corner who could actually bait the opposing QB into picks. Love to see him do that.

    • Polamalu got robbed from that and every other defensive trophy. One of the Greatest Ever if not the greatest Defensive Player ever at SC.

      • All those awards that are picked sportswriters are slanted against USC. They hate SC. I remember a comment by a Ohio sportswriter when Sark and his gang got that #1 recruiting class a year or two ago: He said “as much as it nauseates me, I have to admit that SC is back”

        • That class is paying off for us like we all hoped it would. Sam is the man. Forget Ricky Town everyone got that one wrong. But Rojo is runnig the rock like a “Tailback U” TB is supposed to. Porter Gustin and Rasheem Green are becoming Beast on the DLine. Iman Marshall is getting better and better and has really been dominant the 2nd part of the season. Marvell Tell has been starting this season and i haven’t seen many mistakes from him since at all since the Colorado game. Besides Osa Masina’s troubles and Noah Jefferson having to transfer that #1 class is holding uo their end for us and we should only get better.

          • That class was great and you’re right, it is paying great dividends today and will in the future. But, as I said before on another post, Clay Helton has a window of opportunity right now. He needs to win this next game. That will make USC a hot commodity among the recruits. He needs to recruit well this year. Then next year we have most players back including Sam Darnold. We need to have a great season next year. Then we need to capitalize on that great season and have another great recruiting class. Then if Darnold decides to leave, we will be well stocked with great athletes to continue the rise in 2018 and on and on it will go. Lane Kiffin had that same window of opportunity at the end of 2011. He had a great year in 2011 ending in a 50-0 victory over UCLA. Many writers said they were the best team in the nation at year end. Recruiting started great in the early part of 2012. They were building the greatest recruiting class ever. Then they fell apart in 2012 and went 7-6 and lost to Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl. The great recruiting class disintegrated as one recruit after another de-committed. At the start of 2012 those players believed that Kiffin could take them to the promise land. At the end of 2012 the players no longer believed in Kiffin and 5 games later in 2013, he was fired. He had that same window of opportunity. If he had taken advantage of it, he would still be our coach today. He missed the window and lost his job. Clay Helton is in the same spot today. If he takes advantage of it, he’ll be our coach for a long time to come and SC will become a powerhouse again. If he misses that window, we’ll be looking for another coach in a couple of years.

  2. What school is Paul Hornung from? I’m shocked he didn’t win THAT one. I like his odds for the Lott Award much better.

  3. Wolf should be posting Ajax and Zack Banner named 1st team All Americans. He’s always late to the party. It was everywhere else an hour ago.
