USC Morning Buzz: Ricky Town Transferring To A JC Near You

town-last-practiceRemember Ricky Town? The one-time No. 1-ranked QB in the nation by recruiting services who lasted a spring and small part of training camp at USC. Town, who probably is a faded memory thanks to Sam Darnold, is leaving Arkansas and going to transfer to a junior college. Town is a Steve Clarkson guy so maybe he will go to El Camino College, just like the Baby Quarterback (David Sills).

If Town wants to stay closer to home, there is always Ventura College or Moorpark College. He was the scout team QB at Arkansas, which should tell you something about the recruiting services.

  1. Honestly, I’m quite surprised by how this once hotly recruited guy’s college career has gotten into a downward spiral ever since he had arrived at SC a few years ago. My guess is, the reason for his decline is more mental than physical. Probably, he thought having committed to and being at SC was to bring all the glory he expected but had a rude awakening as it came down to the reality of actual competition. Still, I wish him luck in his future.

  2. Why no mention were the San Diego Chargers decide to move north and the impact on the Coliseum? If the Chargers choose to exercise that option they will also play in the Coliseum until they both move to the new stadium in Inglewood.

  3. Why can’t you just wish this kid well Blogger and be done with it. Is it really necessary for you to hound a 18 year old kid? You seem like such an unhealthy individual.

  4. Because these ” recruiting experts ” only look at stats. All you had to do was look at this kids throwing motion to see he wasn’t going to succeed. On top of his poor mechanics, he has no arm strength

  5. The PAC 12 just got better, and more physical with the hiring of Willie Taggert up at Oregon

    • I was reading that on Facebook. His record isn’t very good at those schools.

      • Coaches get hired to improve teams, and that’s exactly what he did. And the last I checked, 10-2 would be considered a good record

        • The American Athletic Conference isn’t great , he runs a spread offense, so much for ” power football “, and his teams don’t play defense, he’s perfect for Pothead U

    • W. Kentucky and S.Florida ain’t the Pac 12 and with Oregon’s past culture of pass first he’ll have a hard time being a power run team with any success. And just because he worked for Harbaugh doesn’t mean he’ll be any good.

        • Fred, I know you’re a fan of this year’s Bama team, so I’ve got a fun quiz for ya: 2016 Bama VS 2004 SC…who wins?

          • I’m not a fan of Alabama, I just admire how they control the line of scrimmage to win games . And USC would win that game, hands down

          • Yep, I agree. That particular SC team was so good some experts were saying they could beat some lousy NFL teams. LOL!

          • Dude, that’s a real tough one. The Wild Bunch #1 VS The Wild Bunch #2! I’d say it’s a toss-up, even though the 2004 version might have been better in skill positions.

          • The 2008 Team could beat them both. 2004 dominated Oklahoma, but had several close games during the year. The offense didn’t really get rolling until the Orange Bowl then into 2005.

          • They have a great defense but they would pull their hair out trying to cover Steve Smith, Dwayne Jarrett, Domique Byrd, and still have to worry about the running game with Reggie Bush and Lendale White. Pick your poison. If they zero in on stop Thunder and Lightning then Leinart will beat them over the top to DJ. Its really not eve fair.

        • I laughed when I saw the hire…what happened to Phil Knight offering $10 million to the next head coach? Guess that Nike money dried up quick.

      • Was he suppose to win 10 games off the bat ? What kind of logic is that ? He was initially hired because the program was in shambles, so he’s obviously going to lose games his first couple of years

        • You are missing the point. Oregon and Nike were talking about offering $10 million dollars to the next head coach. They hired a guy with 1 good season. Again, I don’t see much there.

  6. I think you should reflect , at the very least realize it’s Christmas. Wow what a post.

  7. High school star does not always equal college, just like college star does not always equal NFL…maybe JUCO will prosper him,one can hope.

  8. Steve Mooshagain has a history of getting bounce back quarterbacks at Ventura College. So it wouldn’t surprise me if Ricky Town ended up there

    • Yesterday Mike Bellotti said Oregon needs to make a big hire or they’re in trouble. They must have been turned down by PJ Fleck.

      • PJ Fleck wanted the Orgeron job, but Phil Knight wanted Matt Rhule , or Willie Taggert, and Rhule turned him down .

          • It ain’t easy getting kids to visit Oregon, so since Baylor is in Texas, I guess that had lots to do with it .

      • No proof that PJ Fleck is ready for the big time, because he just dropped on the scene. He needs to go elsewhere other then Western Michigan to proved his point

        • You may be right. I barely started to hear Flecks name this season an d was wondering whats the big deal about coaching in W. Michigan.

  9. Clarkson is overrated. I feel bad for the parents that waste their money with him.

  10. Did Wolf not see Scott Thompson, assistant coach, left to work for Jeff Tedford at Fresno St?

    • He was an assistant offense and special teams coach who i never heard of until yesterday.

  11. Heard Alabama’s Blake Barnett ended up at Arizona State. It would have been interesting if Barnett played the whole game against us and we started Darnold. Did anyone else notice that right before the Alabama game Saban said his 2016 starting QB would be either Barnett or Bateman. I wonder if Pendergast anticipated the mobile Hurts playing?

  12. And you guys excited about Sears ? Really ? No more politics concerning QB’S and for all the Boosters, PTA parents and friends. NO MORE STIFF QB’S with all this fake 5star crap. If you cant move your feet all you stiff prostyle qb’s need to take a seat .

  13. I first saw tape of Town at one of the combines. He was throwing to receivers with no pass rush pressure and had the worst body language I’ve seen since Greg Brock (former Dodger who had a “perfect swing.” However, he had no self-confidence and he was a bust). Town was struggling on some throws and just didn’t appear to have that “it” factor that the better QB’s have. I was surprised that he left so soon at USC but it was obvious that he wasn’t the guy and didn’t have the stones to compete. Now, leaving Arkansas? He better go down to a DII school that doesn’t have a QB on the roster. USC got lucky…
