Coliseum Crunch

You might have heard the Chargers appear close to moving to Los Angeles and would play at the Coliseum, with the Rams and USC. One possible byproduct would be the installation of artificial turf for two seasons.

Can you imagine the tradition break if the nearly 100-year-old stadium installed fake grass? I doubt that benefits the “student-athletes.”

  1. You’re actually right, Flow. When it gets to college athletics and beyond, it’s the athletes that don’t want to play on synthetic turf. Too much risk for injury with all they’ve invested in for their sport. But the money people see it as too much money for constant yearly field change-outs, inside the hash repairs, end zone change-outs, hash/number location changes from college to the NFL. The field crew would have the impossible task of keeping up with 3 teams and the field changes from college to the NFL. Trust me, that’s a lot of work. It’s a lot of work keeping the field TV-ready for 1 team! Anyway, I hope SD stays away, because the thought of synthetic turf on our Coli scares me. Not to mention would they simply omit specific team logos and keep it neutral because of so many different teams playing? Keep it natural, guys.

  2. Coliseum Crunch was one of my favorite cereals when I was a kid. That and Quisp.

  3. If they need an “Inside Chargers” blog writer, you can use me as a reference scott.

  4. The grass will be just fine for 2 years with the 3 teams playing at the Coli per ALL SOURCES. Another made up “byproduct”.

    • It will appear “fine.” That’s because of all the overnight repairs, plus days leading up to and crunching before games. Will it hold up? Sure. That’s because the sod suppliers bring in super thick cut sod. Is it ideal? Absolutely not.

  5. Your colleague Vinny Bong said yesterday on PMS that the Chargers would play in Carson until the Inglewood stadium is ready.

    • Can we all agree that Trump should put the wall between San Diego and LA and keep the Spanos Brothers out?

      • Yes. The Coliseum is one of few who still use natural grass. It reduces the risk of injuries.

      • If you don’t mind concussions and knee injuries and heat stroke when it raises the temp on a Santa Ana day in September from 100 to 130 degrees it is great for student athletes.

    • Good idea, however most have restraining orders against WW. Soon ,former QB recruits, coaches and a long list of others to be added to restraining order.

  6. Wolf, we are wondering about recruiting. Have the coaches been out much? Do you know anything about USC football or do we all have to go to other sites to get real info.

  7. Chargers should play at the Rose Bowl…that Stadium needs something resembling a football team from September to November

    • Maybe have the Rams play in the Rose Bowl and the Chargers in the Coliseum – that would create a basket of deplorable to play at the Rose Bowl.

    • Never happen! RB area residents won’t have it.

UcLA is one thing, but thousands of Sunday drunk, obnoxious Charger fans is another

      • Its predetermined by calendar and events.. Ucla and the other events fill up those dates. The RB would be ok with the Chargers but not the Raiders. The NFL had already secured the Rams in the LAMC and have an addendum to add the Chargers for 2 years.

      • Owns at least with you guys out of a bowl game you don’t have to try and explain guys quitting the team before the game.

        • Mique took a hike – true.

Let’s see bozo u has lost 5 or 6 bozo u roster players this year and you’re whining out loud about the UCLA Bruins.

Hey Ricky, has Osa made bail yet?

See you in bozo u’s band box BB court 1/25/2017.

  8. Why did Wolf place student-athletes in parenthesis?– These kids are at a top-20 academic institution, so I hope they are taking advantage of a $300,000 or so education.

They all were Top Dogs in high school, but even at SC not 5% will ever see NFL money.

    • I think Blogger was taking aim at the NCAA, et al. who profess that their prime concern is the welfare of the players, when in fact they only care about more money.
And it think you meant “quotes” not “parenthesis”

      • Nobody expects you to read the Wall Street Journal which ranks USC #15 while leaving libt*ard ucla out of the top 25. Hah, hah, hah. We own you both on and off the field little gutty. Get your crying towel.

      • Ted, last year Business Insider listed SUCLA as the most dangerous college campus in America. But I don’t expect the facts to influence you much. They certainly have done nothing for
        Jest&Frowns.

  9. With all the money flowing into the stadium new turf could be installed weekly.
My concern for the colosseum is the smell two losing teams would leave in it.

  10. Lane Kiffen to Florida Atlantic University? If he’s pursuing that job, he should have just gone after the San Jose State position

    • If he’s willing to swallow that much pride, his relationship with Saban must not be good.

  11. On to more IMPORTANT TOPICS:

Will Todd Hoffman ever strike Gold? I’m gonna catch up on GOLD RUSH!!!

  12. Move the gutty little west-siders to Carson.
Rams to the Rose Bowl and USC in the Colli!
Chargers??? we don’t need no stinking Chargers!… haha!

  13. Have the Chargers play adjacent to the site where that and the raiders proposed a new stadium ‘Stub Hub’ in Carson…after all having a >30K spectators in attendance sure beats having the same at the Coliseum…

‘blank’ the rams and anyone associated with that con job, same for the pathetic Chargers.

  14. Chargers just stay in SD till the Rams get their stadium built. Then make your move. Otherwise charge enough rent to resod the coli every week if necessary.

  15. USC is the master lease holder if they don’t want astroturf then it won’t happen.
