USC Morning Buzz: Will Lane Kiffin End Up At Florida Atlantic?

Is Lane Kiffin going to be known as a tire kicker? Someone who considers jobs but then finds reasons to walk away. Florida Atlantic wanted to hire Kiffin according to the Associated Press but negotiations have reportedly broken down. This seems more like it. A school with no tradition. No pressure. A team with three straight 3-9 seasons.

The only problem is this job doesn’t seem big enough for Kiffin’s ego.

    • Couple weeks ago we talked about how recruiting was taking a big upturn. That we would see 2-3 de-commit ,making more room.3rd was today.Believe this class will have some very nice surprises.I expect it to be similar to last year where we killed it last week before signing day.Think we have a few silent.

      • Im hearing Darnay Holmes is leaning to USC now. He cancelled his Michigan trip. Its down to SC and UCLA with SC having the edge. Word is Holmes wants to be a Trojan but his dad is pushing him to UCLA because Demetrius Martin is a good friend. I do think we have a few silents. Our class is going to look very different on signing day. Lots of movement. Top 5.

        • I realize that its a long shot.Yet the odds have changed a bit.We might end up with the two best RB’s. In September , playing in the ROSE BOWL was an insane possibility..

  1. The reason they are called negotiations is that things need to be ironed out. Doesn’t appear negotiations have come to an end, nobody has announced anything like that. Would love to see Kiffen go to FAU, we will never hear about him again.

  2. Kiffin rumors are spread by his agents and are not usually accurate of what is going on behind the scenes.

The agents are just trying to create good publicity for their guy. Kiffin may not get any of these jobs but the perception becomes that Kiffin is still wanted by someone not named Nick Saban.

Kiffin is still a disaster but Kiffin still has some offensive knowledge. And the agents want to get paid. Makes sense for the agents to keep floating his name out there even if there is no truth to any of it.

  3. Wait, I thought Lane was going to Houston. Right, Flow? Let’s forget about Lane Kiffin, Flow. Move on.

  4. If you are one who just enjoys GOOD college football…The N.Dakota st. Vs. S.Dakota st playoff game
Blast to watch…What College Football is about.

    • North Dakota State plays at Oregon in a couple of years from now. North Dakota plays at Utah next year. Pac 12 gets the experience first hand.

      • Watched them beat Iowa this year.Just good no BS football.
In the game today SD ran a trick play for a touchdown , sandlot football.Runner hid behind OL,that came to set standing up.took hike under center.went right with whole offense going left.Touchdown.TV, every body fooled.Great trick play.

  5. Seriously, why should anybody here care about LK? I definitely don’t

Let’s hear about recruiting or the matchup against Penn St – or even Western Michigan vs Wisconsin, which is one of the more interesting bowl games

    • SW doesn’t know a thing about recruiting. This is the wrong place to be looking for that when it’s much more available elsewhere.

      • I think I just wanted to hear myself say that Western Michigan vs Wisconsin is one of the more interesting bowl games – can’t believe I said that!

        • I agree.excellent article about Fleck and program yesterday.College Sports Madness ,which WW(whining Wolfie) dished,is excellent sports site.
We open with western Michigan next year. Will be very interesting game.

        • That game is kind of a head scratcher but WIS is favored by 6.5.

I’d probably take the points because WIS might be bummed about no Rose Bowl. Will be interesting to see how Wilcox does.

          • Should be a good indication of what the WMich team is all about when facing a legitmiate top 20 team

  6. Hey Blogger, when you get a break or something could you possibly report on USC football in the Inside USC blog? Please? No one here really cares about Kiffin like you do.

  7. The Kiffer is in a great spot. He’s got the LSU OC job and another big paycheck if he wants to delay his HC gig another year. The ability to walk away from a negotiation is the strongest card in the deck.

And no head coach who’s ever been good didn’t have a huge. massive ego. McKay, Robinson & Carroll? Talk about egos. I met and talked with them all. Killers, every one.

McKay could be dismissive, curt and treated his assts horribly. Robinson was disarming and seemed to love his assts. He just hated Garrett. Carroll was the trickiest. He was the type who could cut your throat and you didn’t know you were bleeding.

You’re damn right you better be a tire kicker before you take that Florida Atlantic job. There’s lots more where that came from, and plenty better. I’d like to see Lane and Ed O together for a year in Baton Rouge. They’d have ’em all riled up and both their purposes would be well-served.

      • Maybe the Kiffer and Saban don’t like working around each other anymore. Neither has to really put up with that stuff if they don’t want to. Remember Carroll and Chow? Same deal.

  8. Flow, on second thought, try this novel idea: Since you rarely post true Inside USC information, let’s drop all the Lane Kiffin nonsense, and report solely on Layla instead. That Layla Kiffin is “one piece of aaaace. I know from experience, dude. If y’know what I mean?” I heard she’s single…

  9. Like I said before, Lane Kiffin should have jumped on the San Jose State job, because he’s very familiar with the west coast. Mike MacIntyer turned that program around, and look where it landed him . But since Kiffin is use to haveing things handed to him, I’m sure he ,and his agent thought he was above the Mountain West Confrence, but guess what ? He ain’t!

  10. He probably should Coach where there’s a small market. Less media attention. Houston is a big city with much media attention. By the way, in spite of what some people say Kiff wasn’t any closer then anyone else to getting the Houston Job. That’s what his agent wanted the media to believe. It was never his job for the taking.

  11. why does he have to leave BAMA?? and if ‘O’ wants him and offers more or Bama counters…he seems to be doing fine without us SC guys…good for him
