  1. Part of the reason was probably the Rams. Earlier in the season fans were choosing to go to the ram games instead of SC. They don’t have enough money to buy season tickets to both.

  2. I hope so. But I think that it is probably in USC’s best interest if the Rams don’t do that well. I guess I can say that because I’m not really a big Ram fan. I was at one time but the Rams left me……I didn’t leave them. I never followed them since they left LA. Maybe I will be someday in the future. But pro football is really popular. It’s not easy for a college football team to compete against a really good pro football team. In 2002, the Rams were in St. Louis, Not right here in L.A. That’s a big difference. SC wasn’t competing against them because many of the old Rams fans, like me, didn’t care anymore. But I hope you’re right and you might be.

  3. From my point of view it’s a constant raise in prices, unknown coach and no improvement for the stadium improvement fee. The latter of which is like the road maintenance tax on gasoline, we pay it but see no improvement.
It may have been the lambs for the fringe fans, but us old Trojans never die.

  4. The home schedule SUCKED this year too. i was at every game (plus Alabama & Washington), so I can only guess why everyone else wasn’t showing up.

  5. People only have so much money to spend on football.if the Chargers come here and the new Stadium will also put pressure on USC attendance

  6. 7 home games next year – West. MI, TX, WA St., Stanford, bel-air tech, AZ, UT. Save for ‘The Princess’ the road games are very winnable. The question is can Helton coach a NC. Let’s wait and see.

  7. several reasons ncaa football attendance is down in so cal:

    * Obama’s 8 year depression economy means a real unemployment of about 18%, successful USC grads are working longer hours and ucla grads are getting extra jobs besides that barista gig, either way, people are working longer and harder to take the time off to make it to a game

    * Despite the failing economy, ticket prices are rising counter to the law of supply and demand. What’s it take to get a family of 4 to a game with a couple of beers, parking and a few hot dogs ?? $1000?

    * Going to a game is an “all day” affair, an hour drive both ways to get there & back, gotta get there at least 3 hours early to get parking and/or tailgate, longer game times a 3 hour game is nearly 4 hours now with added commercial breaks, who has time for that commitment what with jobs and all the kids activities younger married families have today.

    * The advent of the hi def TV. My screen is so clear I can see the blades of fake grass on the AstroTurf, heck from my former 25 yard seats I could barely read the uni numbers, let alone follow the ball well, fuuuumble ? who could tell ?

    * Unruly crowds and security. Especially applicable to pro games where you could get killed for wearing the wrong jersey, but football crowds are getting rougher, especially ucla drunk fans at the RB where they assault you on the way in and fight you on the way out when they lose.

    * USC specific: Backlash lesser attendance due to not wanting to support the incompetence of the AD and loser hires like Kif and Sark. Fans are leery and are in a missouri “show me” state first before flocking back.

    * To get even a decent season ticket at USC you also have to join Cardinal and Gold that’s also inflated from about $2000 a few years ago to about $5000 now.

    * Competition: In LA the former pro fans who flocked to USC as an alternate are now back to the Rams. Good riddance thoug there were a lot of former Raider band wagon fans who went over to USC and they were a bad element.

    * Terrible inconsistent game times. Thursday night games no way- no parking, late night, lease work at noon… Saturday 730 games ? horrible late night, other activities, I watched SC-ucla at a large cocktail party on the side.

    * For 2016 the election frankly took it out of a lot of people win or lose.

    • Agree on your last two paragraphs mostly. You are wrong about the economy in So Cal. Money enough for the Ram games from people who had jumped on the Trojan band wagon when they were winning big time under Carroll. A large number of the less desirable people who could have never entered USC for an education switched their priorities to the new guy ( Rams ) in town. Stop blaming Obama for your troubles. Looked at the Stock Market recently!

    • Arthur Jury, Your post is comprehensive and Spot On !!! Truth, yes Substance, from beginning to end. Eights years of Obama’s Presidency saw cataclysmic harm poured out on the Private Sector on ALL FRONTS. The Man, raised a Sunni Moslem, then turned Communist by his “third father” or mentor, Franklin Davis Marshall, before becoming a life long Community Organizer developing a keen knowledge of voter fraud and social corruption. The economy of the United States has suffered more the past eight years than ever in our history. You come up short, Steve B. The Stock Market surge is Donald Trump’s gig. America First !!!
