Max Browne On USC Depth Chart

usc-qb-depth-chart-roseUSC released its depth chart today for the Rose Bowl and Max Browne is listed with an “uncertain status” symbol next to his name. Maybe the depth chart was published before Browne made his decision to transfer. Or maybe he will just show up to the game and attend the coin toss as a team captain. Why not?

In 1942, USC had a team captain who was at St. Mary’s Pre-Flight because of World War II. The Trojans played St. Mary’s Pre-Flight but the captain did not play against USC. He did play in other games for St. Mary’s Pre-Flight, however. So it is not unprecedented for a USC captain to play for another school.

  1. Not sure if he’s even around the program anymore, but I would have let him start and play the first series

  2. USC will do the right thing in honoring Max for his loyalty to the program and school, especially under his time there.. 5 HCs 5 OCs .. Heck, Max as a honorary captain would be great..he intends to enroll at Pitt and return to get his masters in communications from USC.

    • I agree. It would cool and a nice gesture, and potentially get the crowd and team a little fired up before the action. But I just don’t see it. Max had to turn this page and focus however he must on his next stop. I’ll be floored if all parties pull something like that off, and happy for all, just don’t see it.

  3. Max is gone. No way that happens. I’m sure he harbors some ill feelings towards USC in some way. Yes, a class-act all the way to the end, but he’s a football player, he’s a competitor, and he’s only human. Best of luck to you, Max, at your new home.

  4. Actually having Browne come out as a team captain for the coin toss and then watch the game from the sidelines would be a great show of appreciation by USC. Fantastic way for the crowd to show their appreciation as well. He would have plenty of time to make it to Pittsburgh in time for classes afterwards.

Too bad the Blogger doesn’t have Helton’s ear to make this suggestion.
