USC Morning Buzz: It’s Time For The Friday Notes Column

It’s time for the Friday notes column, where I make my Rose Bowl game prediction. But to start, I look a little more at that Lane Kiffin story in Sports Illustrated, which hints at the frayed relationship between Kiffin and Pete Carroll. Things fell apart when Kiffin got hired at USC and used to say things like, “who was recruiting around here the last few years?” Eventually, it got back to Carroll. Full column here

  1. New Year’s Wishes:
    1. That the SUCLA vermin who have vanished from this blog remain vanished
    2. That the good ol’ SC posters with football related news keep on bringing it
    3. That all remain healthy through the new year, and most importantly, remain alive.

    • Could we ask for an end to posts about former coaches who are several steps away from the program and players that never actually came to SC.

    • Long live the USC posters! Real News and Perspective.

Glad the ucla little gutty Trolls are in remission. They were shamed into silence because their horrible FB team could only win 4 games and was once again totally hammered by USC. Then USC set itself up for Rose Bowl win #25 – that was the final blow to the little gutties. We’re in their rented digs again to show them what a real elite program looks like. Boo hoo bruins. Read your own sparse blog.

      • Also, the reason the troll ruin fans are away is because they have a losing basketball team that is in the cellar of the Pac 12 league.

  2. SW, you are one sick man with your Kiffin infatuation. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a restraining order against you.

  3. Kffin has a point when it comes to the quality of players when he got here from Tennessee. Pete’s last two recruiting classes were landed by Fredo Corleone, a.k.a. Brennan Carrol, and they were average at best. Fast forward when Fredo was the recruiting coordinator at The U for Al Golden, it cost Golden his job.
Now, on to Scottie. Hey Wolf, has it ever occurred to you that the primary reason that coaches have a problem with you is that you have a problem with you? You come across as a petty, petulant, baby who is basically pissed off at the world, because you think that you’ve always gotten the short end of the stick, and your only recourse is to constantly criticize those who have achieved far more than you. You seem to crave respect from those you have covered, but you’ve never given them the respect they deserve.

    • Carroll truly did drop the ball at the end of his SC reign. That was his deal. His success at SC finally started to cave in on him and he ditched off into the NFL and avoided the on-all-fours NCAA, which is finally about to go down at the hands of McNair and his awesome attorneys.

His son truly was Fredo and the hapless fool was put in charge of Trojan recruiting, the handwriting was on the wall.

      • Penn State was planning to, and should have pursued the Theft by Extortion charges against NCAA individuals for extort $ 60 million in Public Money rather than let the NCAA settle and let these Mafia Criminals free to walk the streets.

      • Kiffin was such a genius , why didn’t he fix it ? oh so he isn’t a genius but maybe Florida International knows more than everyone LMAO

    • PC did recruit poorly in the end, but the guy he gave a job to, the same one that stabbed Norm Chow in the back, could have said nada, but that it’s how The Narcissist operates.

Kiffin is a jerk, a slime ball, a spoiled brat and only Obama has failed up better than he has.

SW is a lib, they are always miserable

    • Really Matt Kalil and Nick Perry were dominate players , helping even an idiot like Kiffin win 10 games in 2011. Had the years gone on and all the loser thugs Kiffin ( and eventually Suck) brought in … the bigger mess USC would have become.
Good thing Darnold and Swann cleaned things up some this year.

      • PC should never had his idiot kid in charge of recruiting. PC did recruit some very good players but he or his son totally ignored the OL and DL in the end. In no way am defending that idiot Kiffin

    • LOL.. The Kiffer has a stalker, SW is just like a spoiled brat telling tales and wanting attention.. The blog and his writings give him an outlet of good or bad.. He’s right and USC is wrong. The Kiffer yanked his creds at USC so its his way of payback. I say let it go, 2017 will bring USC and Scott closer together as the boys in Heritage Hall are winning again.. Jump on board SW .. Happy New Year.. Yes its a new YEAR.. Leave the old behind you! #moveon and #FIGHTON ..

  4. Is beating the #3 country at home really a better win than beating the #4 team in the country on the road?

  5. If Kiffen had a spokesman and didn’t talk to anyone he would be okay. It is when he opens his mouth that you realize what little personality he has and dislike him.

  6. Does Scott have an alter ego named Nancy Armour? She is with USA today sports. Yesterday her column was about how Kiffin hasn’t learned any lessons and hired a risky assistant.
Today she on Sark and how Saban is running a rehab clinic.
I wouldn’t read either column if it weren’t left on my doorstep. But both stories read as of they were written by Scott.

  7. For once, I agree with Lane Kiffin, but Pete Carroll admitted he slipped on recruiting interior lineman, so that was no secret. And it was obvious when Jim Harbaugh’s Stanford teams, would push the Trojans all over the field. But Carroll shouldn’t be surprised at Kiffin openly backstabbing him, because he and Steve Sarkisian did the same to Norm Chow. And it was Chow that hired Sarkisian, who couldn’t even get a paying position on the El Camino, Community College, coaching staff. Now that’s the definition of a slime ball.

    • The Narcissist could have said nothing, but in true form he just threw PC under the bus. The Narcissist will blame everyone and anyone for his problems, it’s what he does.

I’m sure he blamed his wife for his philandering.

      • Yep. I remember both admitting in the 2001 season that they would argue and it sounded legit. Chow didn’t want Pete asking about the offense and Pete said wanted he to be in the know.

        • Two huge egos. Only one kitchen and Pete was the boss. Truth is, Pete used Norm, made a splash, started winning big but wanted a Trojan offense which was more ground-oriented, not the Chow offense. When Pete was done with Chow, who was paid very well, he tossed him aside. Now Sark’s At ALA, the Kiffer’s leading FAU and Norm’s unhireable and twiddling his thumbs.

      • Carroll and Chow didn’t like each other. Amazing how many around here are clueless to that basic fact.

Carroll’s very sharp, very amiable and has a fantastic public countenance. The absolute best. But the guy’s a killer inside and and he’ll leave you bleeding before you know you’re cut if he’s at odds with your direction.

      • Technically Pete Carrol hired Steve Sarkisian, because that’s his coaching staff, but off of Chow’s recommendation for his qb coach. Sarkisian had no coaching experience, other then hanging around a community college as volunteer, assistant.

    • Poor Norm. He’s been a freakin’ disaster since he left SC. He could have had the STAN HC job easily (it was in the bag!) if he hadn’t interviewed so poorly that STAN officials called up Carroll and asked him if Norm just didn’t want the job. Carroll was in disbelief.

Chow got outmaneuvered by the young lions because he upset Pete by asking for a raise every year and threatening to leave. Pete finally said, fine, you’re out of here, I don’t like you taking credit for an offense I tweaked to suit us better anyway. So Pete told Norm to take a hike. That was Pete’s call. Everybody in the world except Norm knows you get on the boss’s bad side and you’re gone. Norm dug his own grave and he’s still digging though I’m not sure he can even hook up with a high school now.

  8. “I needed Nick Saban more than I needed Pete Carroll” does not mean the rift with Carroll has not been repaired. It means Kiffin’s stock was trending upwards during his time under Carroll and was trending downwards when he joined Saban. Kiffin needed some structure to his life when he left USC and Saban provided it. The jury is still out on whether that structure changed Kiffin… but I’m sure we’ll be receiving daily, unbiased updates on this blog.

    • It’s the truth. He did need Saben more. Nobody would take his calls, Saben was a lifeline. It’s a shame, the guy has put himself in a position where people question him even when he is honest. What he has done with the opportunity is on him. Like Saben has said the guy is a good coach and teacher, he can call plays. We’ll see is he can take Saben’s process and be a HC.

  9. So Pete aren’t you glad you created this ungrateful moron and that drug taking idiot … it’s easy to understand now , why Reggie Bush never played the final downs vs Texas ( and how SC left 28 pts off the scoreboard in the 1st half ).
Thanks Pete … your enabled little boys, have done you, USC , and the coaching profession such favors. Pathetic.

    • I had to read that twice before I gave it a thumbs up. Huff said later that he was able to cheat up near the LOS because Bush wasn’t on the field. Kiff/Sark have kept making mistakes ever since that, green, inexperienced play call

    • Possible, but USC has a huge silent commit from a DT that will push for playing time in the spring and 17.
