USC Signs 5-Star

This bio on long snapper Damon Johnson of Citrus College, who started classes at USC on Monday, says he is a five-star recruit. So no more making fun of any three star who commits.

  1. It says he’s 5 star “at his position” which to me means he’s a dang good long snapper and a good special teams get. I doubt any long snapper would ever be a true 5-star in a general sense, but that is not what this is insinuating at all. Just another cheap shot.

    • Which reminds me. What about Jake Olson? I seem to recall Helton saying he’d put him in a game for at least one play. I don’t recall that happening. USC fans will know who Olson is and his unique circumstances, but for those who don’t, he’s blind.

      • I thought it was Sark that made that promise. I don’t know if Helton is honoring the promise, but he should.

  2. Wolf bags on this signing now, but fast forward to next season and if USC is having issues with the snapper, the follicly challenged blogger would be all over the coaching staff for not recruiting a good long snapper.

  3. This is a John Baxter call, period.

Baxter’s one of the greatest special teams coaches in the game and he knows what SC needs here. Now.

The kid is a five-star as a snapper. They do exist, but the recruiting services can’t make any money off these types so they pretend the kicking game isn’t important.

Well, the kicking game just instantaneously won USC the most exciting Rose Bowl ever. Sure, we might have won anyway if we had to go to OT. But then it’s a total crapshoot.

Countless times I’ve seen snaps that are even just a little off throw off a kicker, or a holder and affect a close game.

  4. Huge, a 5 star long snapper. Sammy will go stark raving delirious and claim the LS’er was flipped from UCLA.

  5. This is SW’s idea of recruiting coverage, reprinting info from the official USC site on players already enrolled. You gotta laugh.

  6. Scott wolf must look forward to going to work daily. Making fun of students really seems to be his forte. Actual intelligent commentary and insight not so much.

  7. He is not a five star recruit. He is a two star recruit. It said he said he was a five star recruit. USC, at this point, does not have a five star recruit that has publicly committed.

  8. I’d feel a lot better if Damon was a 5-star D-lineman. I’m worried Helton doesn’t have the moxie to sign any of those.
