USC Morning Buzz: L.A. Chargers Are A Work In Progress

CHARGERS.LOGO.2The Chargers switched from the Dodger-influenced L.A. logo to a more-appropriate power blue and yellow version Friday. But then, they switched to a completely different logo on their twitter account (below). This move to Los Angeles seems to be about as well planned as when USC hires a football coach.

  1. Welcome to LA LA land Chargers. A place where nobody will watch your games until you actually win one. And you will only be on TV if 30,000 people are desperate for entertainment.

  2. And what does this have to do with “Inside USC” besides the usual snarky ending?

    Focus. Blogger. Focus.

  3. True. But as Jed York ( boy king) stated so eloquently: “you don’t get rid of the owner”. Feel bad for Charger fans. Forced to root for a team whose owner abandoned them or find a different team–without any local connection. NFL is about making money, but the good owners strive to win. I.E. Steelers, Patriots & Giants. Crappy owners go for the $ first and wins second. I.E. 49ers, Chargers, & Rams.

  4. Mr. negative doing work again. Throw us a positive once in a while Wolfie. I know you can do it.

  5. If recruits living outside SoCal cant appreciate this mid-winter, January weather and would rather spend the next 3 or 4 years living anywhere else, que vayan con Dios.

Talk about near perfect weather for a trip to glorious California.

  6. I am guilty myself, but I am still suprised how many hits this stupid thread has already. Are we gullible, or what.

Think I will refrain from posting unless it has to do with USC. Will anyone join me? Perhaps the BBald one will get the hint.

  7. Poor brooklyn…then again they sure wish the Angels didn’t have the rights to the interlocking ‘L and A’ that they do

BTW Lynn looks more like a coach than McVay does.

  8. I think they need to do a second draft. Maybe have a meeting. Do a contest where 1st graders design the logo with crayons. Steal the logo the Clippers had that one year that was terrible.

  9. This move by the Chargers, while I don’t like it, is very well planned and is 15-20 years in the making. The firm bedrock and final piece was laid a year ago when Spanos linked the Rams’ move to his.

The Chargers are obviously prepared to float any number of logo possibilities out there until they decide which ones work best. In the end, all logos are only good if the team ends up strong. Look at the best logos the NFL offers, IMHO, the 49ers, the Steelers, the Cowboys, Packers, Bears, Patriots, Seahawks, to name some. They’re all strong because they represent the best of NFL history or present times.

Nobody has the faintest idea whether the Rams or the Chargers or both will be successful in L.A. Both have been bad franchises so long that nobody expects anything from them. Personally, I don’t care about either. Their stadium’s gonna be awesome though.

Trojan football owns L.A. and is the most dominant team in the City of the Angels. We’ve got terrific logos at SC too. It’s good to be king!

      • I’m not a basketball fan. So you know my answer. But the Lakers are in huge rebuild now and not the least bit dominant since Jerry Buss died. Matter of fact, the Lakers are a yearly door mat. USC’s never that in football.

College fans are more die-hard IMHO. I have friends whose dad’s were USC All-Americas. As kids we lived and died with every football game.

While I also grew up a Dodgers and Rams fan, I never cared that much when the Dodgers would always lose to the Yankees or the Rams would always lose to the Vikings.
